The Monster Monarch System-Chapter 206: The Changing Ruins (Part 9)
Rem ran into the cave without fear, as soon as he entered, he felt his senses that had seemingly been nullified return back to normal - an immensely powerful presence resided within this cave... one that gave off so much magical energy, it clearly surpassed whatever Rem had been expecting.
’I mean it has been growing,’ Rem thought, ’Feeding off the energy from the dungeons and the souls of monsters slayed,’
There had been many off things from the way Cecilia had explained it, she hadn’t made mistakes but it wasn’t the story that was odd but rather the monster.
It saw him as a threat so it made sure to try and get him out of the way at any point it was given but hundreds of Raiders attacking the monsters in it and clearing the dungeons and it didn’t even react to save them? It didn’t add up.
From what Rem could surmise, if the monster could control the soul energy in any side of the cave then it could also explain why it was going stronger without the need to leave it’s cave... the soul energy left in the air were merely the leftovers of the countless amount of souls that it had consumed.
’That’s what’s making it so strong,’ Rem thought, the monster consumed souls – what he did was different, with the help of the Monster Monarch System, Rem was able to assimilate the soul and gain it’s power but the monster consumed the souls... With Cecilia’s take on how the creature was gruesome and horrific, Rem figured that it was a side effect of consuming too many souls.
He continued running through the cave, the horrid stench assaulted his nose but Rem managed to keep a straight face through it all, his mind focused on the mission and he reached the end of the cave.
"So that’s it, huh?" Rem muttered as he observed a Monster wedged against the wall in a grotesque fashion... it didn’t look like a monster, it wasn’t even a mutation, it was something far much worse, "A Monster turned anomaly in the chase of power,"
Rem couldn’t help but imagine how he would be like if he didn’t have the Monster Monarch System to help him with the assimilation process, he might have become something like this... Rem pushed those thoughts aside.
The Monster reminded him of a Spidergob yet at the same time it didn’t, there were several appendages similar to human hands along it’s back, numbering a hundred easily. Each of them were moving erratically and even clenching. There were multiple tentacles on it’s back, swirling in the air with slime on them and it’s face... it was just like the bony cranium of a human.
"Power comes with different prices," Rem muttered as he clenched his fist, soul energy bursting to life around them as he moved forward with a burst of speed – the ground shattered beneath him, web-like cracks spreading everywhere.
The Monster leapt off the wall and right at Rem, the tentacles descending at him, each of them with tremendous soul energy surrounding them. Rem didn’t falter as he phased into the shadow of the monster just as the tendrils came down, smashing against the ground and intensifying the damage that had been caused.
Rem was in the air behind the Monster, looming right over it’s head while focusing magical energy into his hands and channeling it for a big attack. The soul energy he had used while charging in had been a feint for the Monster to drop it’s guard enough for Rem to charge a powerful attack.
Crimson flames burned in the air, taking shape of several orbs that shot forward and converged at the Monster’s back as well as it’s head – a series of explosions ravaged the Monster’s body, prompting it to let out an inhumane scream that shook the entirety of the center.
Rem wasn’t done yet, he brought his arm back and channeled magical energy into it but he had to stop as the skeleton turned in his direction, a screeching sound escaping from the hole that Rem assumed was it’s mouth.
The sound waves rippled through the air and threatened to slam into him but he quickly dodged them by ejecting flames from his legs, burning his shoes in the process but it was worth it... the sound waves slammed into the wall of the cave and it vibrated before web-like cracks spread all over it.
’The walls are thick,’ Rem thought as his gaze narrowed at the Monster, there was no name tag and rank at it’s head... even the System was having difficulty in comprehending it but Rem didn’t blame it, ’That’s why it was able to survive that, if it had met me, all my bones would have shattered,’
The tentacles soared through the air at him and he climbed atop one but soon realized that it was slippery, too slippery to keep a good grip on so with his feet, he began emitting heat which burned at the slime and the skin of the tentacle.
The Monster screeched once again and Rem leapt onto another tentacle just as the soundwave tore through the air once again, it completely engulfed the tentacle and like Rem expected, it was destroyed completely.
The screeches intensified as the Monster aimed at Rem but the Cavalier moved quickly and efficiently, leaping onto several tentacles and making sure the Monster destroyed them too although his efforts were in vain when he found out that the Monster’s regenerative ability was not to be trifled with.
"I need an attack that can destroy it once," Rem muttered while jumping high into the air, "Or a series of attacks that’ll deal deadly damage to it,"
His palms glowed like claws as he began slashing at the air, several slashes of magical energy shooting forward and slicing at the Monster... one of the signature abilities of the Hellhounds, unlike the major spells that Rem planned to use, this hadn’t been among them.
The slashes shot through the air with speed, impaling the monster with deadly accuracy – there was no rest in between each slash, they were all synced perfectly and timed well. The attacks became so intense that one of the tendrils that the Monster used for standing on the ground was cut in half.
The Monster fell to the ground and the tendril began growing but Rem persisted some more, slashing with more speed now.
5 Slashes per second!
As he kept throwing slashes, he got used to the skill once more – not only did he increase his attacking speed but Rem also infused a combination of magical and soul energy into his slashes.
10 Slashes per second!
His hands moved in a flurry, more slashes pushing forth with impeccable timing. They were carved onto the monster that lay on the ground below, each slash creating a shockwave that ravaged the ground of the cavern.
Rem grew tired of using them shortly after, it wasn’t because they were energy consuming but rather it was ineffective, the healing proved to be a problem as it dealt with every injury Rem carved out with relative ease but he wasn’t done yet.
Rem raised his right hand to his lips, determined to use another skill from the Hellhound lineage – a sound wave burst forth from his mouth, shooting forward and engulfing the Monster within it. It screamed, a scream that vibrated the entire cave.
Sound waves were meant to damage the hearing but the monster had shown Rem a new way to use this ability, with enough air capacity and magical energy within his attack – he could use it to deal devastating damage.
Then suddenly his attack dispersed, Rem’s eyes widened as the ground shook even more than before... wisps of soul energy escaping from the web-like cracks that lay in them.
There was something about the cave that had bugged him when he entered, there was not only the great energy and power that the Boss exuded but soul energy underground... but seeing as the soul energy swirled in the air, Rem seemed to understand it’s use.
’A Boost,’ Rem thought as he landed and got into a fighting stance, but the boost that he had expected to use never came... instead the ground split apart and bodies began crawling out of it.
Monsters... humans... Every single one of them escaped, they looked disfigured and unruly and it was only then that Rem understood what this was – An army.
