The Military Queen-Chapter 109 - 80: Off to the Mission (Part 2)
"No need to rush, I still don’t know the combat level of this Bald guy, and it’s safer to bring someone experienced in actual combat," Number 0 had also made comparisons.
A month later, if she wanted to win the spot in the Personal Guard, she must possess strong combat capabilities. The principle of military rank adjustment is that each player has a chance to adjust their rank during their participation in Military Road Time. This chance, she did not plan to waste so quickly.
Upon reaching school level, Number 0 could take the opportunity to adjust back to Sergeant Level. Her skills would not decrease, but the military merit requirements would be lower. By then, she could masquerade as a Sergeant to annihilate those school level players, playing the fool to catch the wise.
After listening to Number 0’s clattering plan, Little Eight could only utter a phrase: (Number 0 is an extremely cunning and vengeful individual.)
"I’ve made my selection, you choose the remaining one," Yijie’s choice was the task of eradicating bandits in the outskirts of Babylon City. They still had two days, ample time to complete two tasks.
Number 0 glanced at the task sidebar, and suddenly noticed that, aside from papyrus and Beast Skin Paper, there was another kind of Task Paper made of different material. It was a Task Paper that was like neither cloth nor paper, nearly the same color as the original wood background of the task bar, and if not carefully observed, it was virtually indistinguishable.
The players of "Military Road" were all rough men, and astonishingly, since the open testing began, no one had noticed this type of Task Paper.
Number 0 pulled down that piece of Task Paper and discovered that the writing on it was already quite blurred.
"Collect dinosaur grass." The Task Paper did not specify a task deadline, nor did it specify a military merit reward. This task seems incomplete.
"Pick a different one, I’ve never heard of this stuff," Yijie had never heard of dinosaur grass. The herbs within "Military Road" followed normal naming conventions.
"Are you sure you want to accept this pending task?" The half-masked woman also saw Number 0’s action. If it was a regular task, she would not have taken the initiative to ask. The Task Paper that Number 0 accidentally tore off was called a pending task.
The publishers of pending tasks are usually anonymous. Upon completion of the task, the commissioners decide on the military merit reward based on the degree to which the player has completed the task. The chances of a player getting a substantial reward or wasting their time are equal.
The difficulty of pending tasks can vary, like the one in Number 0’s hand. Initially, it was written on papyrus. Tasks involving collection and gathering are generally Primary Tasks.
After more than a dozen players failed to find dinosaur grass, it was rewritten onto Beast Skin Paper, meaning it became an Intermediate Task. After a while, some intermediate players complained that there was no such plant as dinosaur grass in the world, and the "military station" adjusted it to a "pending task."
"Whether dinosaur grass itself exists is the key to this task." The half-masked woman, fulfilling her duty as the head of the military station, explained.
"I’ll take this task," Number 0 mimicked the action of the first player she saw, throwing the paper onto the counter.
Seeing that persuasion was ineffective, the half-masked woman said no more.
"Since the task itself is pending, does it mean that the completion deadline and punishment are invalid?" Yijie was clearer about the penalties for failing a task than Number 0. Those who accepted tasks from the military station and did not complete them on time were either fined an equivalent amount of military coins or had their military merit halved.
"Yes, pending tasks don’t have explicit punitive measures." Pending tasks are a very particular existence in all "military stations." Among heads of military stations, they secretly call pending tasks "awkward tasks."
The fundamental survival of the "military station" is credibility, and it targets a broad range of stakeholders, including the public, military, government, merchants, and officials. Each task, before being accepted by the military station, is expected to be completed as a prerequisite.
"Pending tasks" are those that were accepted but cannot be completed, and yet cannot be canceled. So, every "military station" would post them in an inconspicuous place on the bulletin board, treating them with a cold shoulder.
After Number 0 and Yijie signed their names on the Task Paper, their task booklet now included "eradicating nearby bandits and searching for dinosaur grass."
"The task procedures are complete, before every task starts, I will, as usual, read the rules of accepting tasks. Each task remains in a public state after acceptance, which means that the tasks you are about to undertake may also be handled by other players, and the first to complete 100% of the task will receive military merit or military coin rewards," the half-masked woman read something that Yijie had heard several times, but it was new to Number 0.
After accepting a task, to actually worry about others snatching it first? Number 0 is gradually experiencing the competitive mechanic that exists at every moment in "Military Road."
"Hope you can complete the tasks smoothly," the half-masked woman seemed in a good mood, and before the two left, she even offered a blessing.
Yijie, striding forward, slowed down, "There’s no map of the outskirts."
The blue map carried in the players’ personal military pack was the system map, while the outskirts were a yellow zone, and the precise navigation depended on the players to explore and record on their own.
"Keep up," Number 0 cheerfully chirped two words. (To be continued. If you like this work, please come to Qidian (qidian.com) to vote for recommendations, monthly tickets, your support is my greatest motivation.)
