The Man Picked Up By the Gods (Reboot)-Chapter 125.2 - Work and Reputation (2/2)
Volume 3 Chapter 125: Work and Reputation (2/2)
โAh, found you!โ [Teacher]
โSorry to keep you waiting.โ [Ryouma]
When I got there, what was waiting for me was a female teacher and a boy. ฦ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฌ๐๐๐งoัตโฏl.๐๐m
โWhatโs the matter?โ [Ryouma]
โThe medicine I bought isnโt working.โ [Boy Adventurer]
โI think he might have gotten a fake medicine, but Iโm not particular with this kind of stuff, so Iโm not sure. You said you knew a lot about medicine, right?โ [Female Teacher]
โI do have some knowledge on the subject. Can I see that medicine?โ [Ryouma]
Fake Medicine?ใThat shouldnโt happen if you buy at a normal store.
โItโs this. Itโs from the pharmacy and was a little expensive, but I was told itโs very effective, so I splurged on it.โ [Boy Adventurer]
โLetโs seeโฆโ [Ryouma]
The boy seemed to be itchy as he was rubbing himself atop his clothes. He took out a small bottle and handed it to me. When I examined it, I was able to get a rough understanding of the situation.
โWhen did you start using this and how many times have you used it?โ [Ryouma]
โI just started using it this morning. It didnโt seem to be working, so I used it 5 timesโฆโ [Boy Adventurer]
โAlright. This isnโt a fake. It just deteriorated.โ [Ryouma]
โDeteriorated?โ [Boy Adventurer]
โDid you place the bottle under direct sunlight?ใItโs true that itโs an insect repellent concocted using some fairly good ingredients, but its weak against sunlight. Thatโs why you have to store it someplace away from the sun or its efficacy will go down.
Also, if people with weak skin use it too much, they might irritate their skin. So, that itchiness your feeling might not just be because of the insects. Didnโt the clerk explain this to you when you purchased it?โ [Ryouma]
โNot at all!โ [Boy Adventurer]
Did the clerk really not explain it or did this adventurer simply not hear it? I donโt know, but either way this medicine is the real thing.
โThank you for explaining. I can take care of the rest.โ [Teacher]
โIโll leave it in your hands then.โ [Ryouma]
โExcuse me.โ [???]
โYes. Iโm going!โ [Ryouma]
โฆThere were quite a lot of people asking me questions.
From the atmosphere on the first day, I thought I wouldnโt be relied on too much, but itโs surprisingly busy.
In any case, I did my best to answer those that asked me questions. I spent one hour trying to teach them all.
Maybe itโs because itโs nearing winter, but recently the sun has been setting early. Thanks to most of the students have coming back, the wave of questions finally calmed down.
โRyouma, can I have a sec?โ [Roche]
โWhat is it,ใRoche-san?โ [Ryouma]
โThere are still some students that havenโt come back. Itโs that group of four that caused a problem on the first day. Have you seen them by any chance?โ [Roche]
โI saw those four in the woods some time ago hunting a monster for a job. But I havenโt seen them since then.โ [Ryouma]
โI see. In that case, can you take a look? You saw them in the woods right?โ [Roche]
โThat is where I saw them, but.. Can you lend me your ear for a bit?โ [Ryouma]
โHmm?โ [Roche]
โโฆThose four fell for a trap job. They couldnโt find any rock lizard at the woods, so they were considering going to the plains to look for one.โ [Ryouma]
Thatโs why Iโm not confident theyโll be at the woods.
โI see. In that case, it might be a good idea to send someone there tooโฆ Never mind. It looks like that wonโt be necessary.โ [Roche]
โ?โ [Ryouma]
Roche-san suddenly changed his mind. Before I could ask him why, he pointed his thick finger behind me.
โโฆI see.โ [Ryouma]
When I turned around, that group of four was already walking back. From the way they walked, they appeared somewhat lethargic, but at least, they donโt seem to be wounded. Theyโre probably just tired from having to carry their quarry.
โSorry weโre late.โ [Adventurer 1]
โSorry!โ [Adventurer 2]
โWe ended up taking more time hunting than expected.โ [Adventurer 3]
โBut we sure were able to hunt a lot!โ [Adventurer 4]
โLook, look!โ [Adventurer 1]
The four of them spoke to Roche-san like that as they raised up their hunted game and showed off.
โGrass Rat, huh. And 8 of them too.โ [Roche]
โUsu!โ [Adventurer 1]
โWeโre good at hunting.โ [Adventurer 2]
โSomething like this is easy as long as you can find their nest!โ [Adventurer 3]
โIdiot! Sorry.โ [Adventurer 4]
When I tried to talk to them, the four of them suddenly behaved like a pounce of borrowed kitten.
Hmm?ใWhy are they acting like this toward me?
โUmm~ Did I do something?โ [Ryouma]
โYouโre the owner of the Bamboo Forest, right?โ [Adventurer 1]
The least reserved of the four mentioned the name of my store.
โI see. Is this related to my store?โ [Ryouma]
โYou and your store are helping out the slum people, right?ใBecause of that we were told not to trouble your store or people related to it.โ [Adventurer 1]
โWho told you that?โ [Ryouma]
โThe adults at the slum. Look. Weโre poor, right?ใEven if we donโt do anything, most stores wouldnโt appreciate us approaching them and they would push us away. Even if theyโre not that blunt about it, itโs clear that their attitude toward us is bad. That sort of stuff spreads quickly. Even if donโt go out of our way to cause trouble for others, if anything happens, people will tell children not to approach us.
On the other hand, if itโs a store like yours that treats people like us well, we get told by the slum adults not to cause you problems.โ [Adventurer 1]
Good reputation and bad reputation are shared by the people within the same circle, huh.
โWeโve long heard about how the owner of the store is a kid and how he beat up some delinquent adventurers and thugs and threw them at the guards. But weโve never seen your face before. So when we found out yesterday that youโre the rumored store owner, these guys pissed their pants. They didnโt know if they were going to be scolded by the adults first or be beaten by you first.โ [Adventurer 1]
โWe didnโt piss our pants!โ [Adventurer 2]
โWe were just trying to talk politely.โ [Adventurer 3]
โYeah! You tell him!โ [Adventurer 4]
The boy adventurer laughed as he explained the situation and his friends booed him.
Butโฆ
โI understand the reason now. But you donโt have to worry about the incident yesterday. I wonโt beat you up just because you did something I donโt like. Unless you try to kill me anyway.โ [Ryouma]
โWhat? I told you right? Even if you donโt do that, the adults told us not to approach you. Ah, Iโm Gazel, by the way. Itโs nice to meet you!โ
โNice to meet you too.โ [Ryouma]
He seems like an honest child. I hear these children often pick fights with Berkโs group, but they donโt seem malicious. If anything, they strike me as a group of open-hearted children.ใTheyโre still young, so itโs good theyโre this livelyโฆ Or at least thatโs what I think anyway.
โRight. We want to handle our quarry. Is there a designated place for that?โ [Gazel]
โYou can go to the back of that carriage then.โ [Roche]
โThanks. Weโll go settle our business then. Letโs go!โ [Gazel]
As Gazel took his friends with him, they disappeared to the back of the carriage.
โHe seems like a lively kid.โ [Ryouma]
โYeah. The presence of a person like that can liven up a partyโs atmosphere. Well, there are also those that are too lively and end up causing problemsโฆ You were there too yesterday too. But if you try talking to him, youโll find that heโs not a bad guy. It feels like heโs not being honest, though. But then again, when you were young too, youโฆโ
As Roche-san was talking, he suddenly stopped.
โWhatโs the matter?โ [Ryouma]
โNothing. I was about to talk about your youth, but then I remembered youโre still a kid yourselfโฆ When Iโm not looking at you, it feels like Iโm not talking to a kid. It feels like Iโm talking to an adult.โ [roche]
โI get that a lot.โ [Ryouma]
Because you know Iโm actually an adult. This kid youโre talking to has the heart of a middle-aged uncle.
โBy the way, Roche-san. They mentioned something about hearing about me.โ [Ryouma]
โThe youngest of the instructors. Someone whoโs even younger than the students themselves. And with that house of yours for a tent, of course, youโd stand out. Because of that a lot of the students asked about you.
Although thereโs a lot among the students whoโs just registered. Thereโs a lot among the instructors who participated in the previous goblin subjugation job. Beating up a group of delinquent adventurers or a horde of goblins, owning a store, taking out a powerful banditโฆ Any newcomer who does all that is bound to have word of him spread.โ [Roche]
True. I might have been a bit violent.
โAnd now word has gotten out that Iโm the person from the rumors.โ [Ryouma]
โYeah. But isnโt it fine? Itโs not like theyโre looking down at you.โ [Roche]
โThat might be true.โ [Ryouma]
I canโt decide right now if this is a good thing or a bad thing, but I suppose this means that theyโve at least acknowledged my abilities.
More than anything else, at least weโve now confirmed that all the students are safe.
Beneath the dazzling night sky swayed the bonfire of the students.
To cook their foodโฆ To warm themselves from the cold wind of the nightโฆ
As I watched the smiles of the students surrounding the bonfire, my mood gradually turned peaceful.
โUwaah!?โ
โWhat!?โ
โ!?โ
But it was at such a time that something happened.
Within the quiet camp, beneath the starry sky, suddenly screamed a person.
