After resolving the unexpected encounter in the underground passage, we escorted Theodore’s group back to Happy House.

As we walked, we came across two paths—Route 2 and Route 1. Aurora turned to me and asked,

“Where do these paths lead?”

“They lead to different areas. Oh, by the way, did you come across any other paths while traveling from the capital to here?”

Before Aurora could respond, Theodore, walking beside her, answered instead,

“There were plenty of paths. Some were blocked, others led who knows where. The passageways were so maze-like that meeting you here feels like an extraordinary coincidence.”

Plenty of paths? Just how far do these underground passages extend?

Note to self:

1 leads to Brunel, 3 to the spring, 6 to Hague, and 8 to Notium.

I recalled the Happy House blueprint and the note on the back indicating that “8 Notium” indeed connected to the capital.

“So, where exactly does this passage lead in the capital?” I asked.

Aurora responded,

“Do you know the mansion at 61 Notium Street? Before the catastrophe, it was infamous as a site where monsters were often sighted. There was a passageway beneath it. We entered to investigate, but when the path collapsed, we had no choice but to keep going until we ended up here.”

As Aurora explained, she suddenly looked at me with wide eyes.

“Wait a moment. Oh my...!”

Pointing at me, she exclaimed with a mix of astonishment and recognition,

“You’re the one who took down that monster with an axe back at 61 Notium Street!”

Ethan, understanding her outburst immediately, chuckled. Only Theodore seemed confused, tilting his head quizzically, while I forced an awkward smile.

I wondered if I was about to face yet another round of suspicious questioning. Just the thought of it made me tired already. If that happened, I’d leave handling Theodore to Ethan—or perhaps even Harrison could deal with it.

‘Ah, the perks of being a beloved superstar.’

Despite my inner sarcasm, I wiped away the cold sweat forming on my forehead.

While I was secretly plotting such schemes, Aurora suddenly grabbed both of my hands, her eyes brimming with tears.

“At last, I’ve found you! My savior!”

...Huh?

“You have no idea how much I’ve wanted to meet you. And to think you’re Cherry Sinclair! What kind of fate is this?”

I couldn’t see any connection between me being Cherry Sinclair and being her “savior.” Still, it was evident that Aurora felt an inexplicable bond with “Cherry Sinclair.”

She looked at me like a misfit duckling finally meeting one of its own kind.

“I’ve been dying to meet you. Goodness, Lady Sinclair, my savior! It’s unbelievable.”

Aurora kept muttering similar sentiments while staring at me. At that moment, Ethan, holding a lantern, walked back and gently freed my hands from hers.

“You’re making Cherry uncomfortable.”

Aurora shot Ethan a disgruntled look and snapped,

“Brother, can’t you step aside and let us have our beautiful reunion?”

Ethan replied with a smirk,

“Beautiful reunion, my foot. Are you happier to see Cherry than your own brother?”

Aurora retorted sharply,

“You’re one to talk. You care more about Cherry than you do about me!”

“Would you two save your sibling rivalry for later? Voices carry in these underground passages,” I interjected, silencing them both.

Theodore, clearly amused, chimed in,

“What exactly is this passage, Lady Sinclair? Did you perhaps build it yourself?”

I shook my head.

“No, we’re still trying to figure out what it is ourselves.”

As we talked, we soon arrived at the fireplace. I crouched slightly and exited through the opening. Those following behind me stepped out and marveled at their surroundings.

They curiously examined my room, their astonishment growing as they looked out the window. Dawn was breaking. Though it was still raining heavily, the clouds had thinned enough to let some light through, making it brighter than the night.

Aurora glanced around my room in wonder and asked,

“Where are we?”

“This is my house. A villa in Brunel,” I replied.

Everyone turned to look at me in disbelief.

“What exactly is this mansion, and what’s the deal with these underground passages...?” Theodore trailed off, unable to finish his sentence.

Knock, knock.

Someone was knocking on the door. Familiar voices drifted through from the other side.

“My lady, it sounds rather noisy in there. Is everything all right?”

“Instead of asking, why don’t you go in and check? What if something happened to Cherry?”

“Miss Sinclair’s well-being concerns me more than it does you, Ludfisher.”

It was Harrison and Nox bickering. Theodore raised an eyebrow.

“That voice... isn’t that Nox?”

At his remark, the conversation outside the door abruptly stopped, leaving a brief silence.

Then, the door burst open.

“Who’s in there?!”

“What’s with that man’s voice...?”

Harrison and Nox froze in place, stunned by the crowd of people filling my room.

Creak. Thud.

They promptly closed the door they had just opened. From beyond the closed door, the conversation between the two men could still be heard.

“Lawyer, did you see that? I think something’s wrong with my eyes.”

“I saw it too. There were men in the lady’s room...”

The moment Harrison muttered, “men in the lady’s room,” they seemed to realize something, throwing the door open again with a start.

Harrison and Nox locked eyes with me, rushed inside, and pulled me into a protective embrace before quickly retreating backward.

“Wh-who are you?”

“Who are you!”

Ethan was also in the room, but it seemed he was entirely invisible to them.

“What are you two even doing?” Ethan asked, baffled. It was only then that Nox and Harrison appeared to notice his presence.

“Your Highness?”

Recognizing Theodore, Nox’s eyes widened in disbelief, and Harrison, equally shocked, turned his gaze toward him.

For Harrison, such a reaction was exceedingly rare, which only underscored how astonishing this situation was.

“Well then,” Ethan began, “since everyone seems to be shocked, perhaps we should all take a moment to rest and calm down before we continue our conversation.”

Theodore raised a hand, as if to counter Ethan’s suggestion.

“I agree with you in principle, but before that, I have one more question. Lady Sinclair, is this truly your residence?”

“Yes, it is,” I replied smoothly. “As I mentioned earlier, this is my villa. I came here to escape the noise of ❖ Nоvеl𝚒ght ❖ (Exclusive on Nоvеl𝚒ght) the capital, but then the world turned into this, and I ended up trapped.”

Ethan, Nox, and Harrison briefly glanced at me, but I returned their stares with a brazen smile.

After all, these people were all indebted to me. What were they going to do, argue with me about it?

Theodore silently scanned my room, seemingly lost in thought. While we certainly had plenty to discuss, it seemed wise to follow Ethan’s suggestion and let everyone rest and gather their thoughts before continuing.

Just as I was about to show them to their quarters, Theodore posed another question.

“I’ve heard rumors about a bear in Brunel that tears apart monsters with its bare hands. They say it’s a person. Lady Sinclair, do you know anything about that?”

“Pfft.”

Standing nearby, Ethan burst into laughter, which quickly turned into uproarious guffaws as he clutched his stomach. Nox let out a faint chuckle, though Harrison remained as stoic as ever.

Theodore’s group looked at us in utter confusion.

“What’s so funny, Ethan, Nox?” Theodore asked.

Nox simply adjusted his smile, leaving the explanation to Ethan, who, as expected, answered,

“It’s right in front of you, Your Highness. The bear that tears monsters apart with its bare hands.”

Ethan gestured toward me with a nod. Naturally, Theodore assumed he was joking. He raised an eyebrow and gave Ethan a scrutinizing look.

Honestly, I couldn’t blame him. If someone told me I possessed superhuman strength without having seen it firsthand, I’d react the same way.

Regardless, I immediately objected.

“Excuse me, Sir Ethan, that’s not me. I’ve never torn apart a monster with my bare hands.”

“But you could do it,” Ethan teased.

“I could probably tear you apart,” I retorted.

“Now, now, that’s a bit harsh. Can’t we have a normal conversation for once?”

“You pretend you’re normal, but you’re just as bad as me.”

As Ethan and I exchanged playful barbs, Aurora, sitting across from us, opened her mouth with a look of awe.

“Lady Sinclair, you truly must be destined for my brother. The Lancasters have always been a bit... unorthodox. You’d fit right in with our family.”

...Was she talking about herself?

It was the first time I’d ever encountered someone blatantly telling me to my face that I was abnormal and that it made me a perfect match for their family.

“Wait a moment, young lady,” Nox interjected with visible displeasure. “Why is Cherry automatically destined to be with the Lancasters? Shouldn’t we at least ask for her opinion?”

“Haa.”

“Hah.”

The two sighs came from Harrison and Theodore, respectively. The two men exchanged a knowing glance, as if silently asking each other, “Are your people always like this?”
