Chapter 17 - Another Friday

This morning's class was history, which was also Ji Aier's favorite subject. Every period of history was like a story, playing out in different eras, with the rise and fall of kings and the struggle for power alternating. Here, one could see the process of human development and the most essential aspects of human nature.

When the history teacher talked about the history of the Tang Dynasty, he introduced the Tang Dynasty female poet Li Ye. One of her poems, "Lament of Lovesickness," was very classic.People say the sea is deep,But it's not half as deep as my lovesickness. The sea has its bounds,While my lovesickness knows no end.I carry my lute up to the tall building,The empty building filled with moonlight.Playing a lovesick tune,My heartstrings break in an instant.

Ji Aier felt oppressed. Although she had never experienced it, when she read this poem, she felt a strong resonance. There were many things in this world that weren't decided by oneself but were left to fate. All they could do was change what they could change and accept what they couldn't. Love was the same.

Just as Ji Aier could change her attitude towards things, she had to accept all the abuse brought by Ji En that she couldn't change.

After having lunch, Ji Aier was already sweating. Since it was early summer, the temperature outside was already a bit high, and today the sun was shining brightly. If they were going outdoors later, she was likely to get heatstroke, Ji Aier thought. But she had no right to decide where Ji En would go. She could only follow him.

"Let's find an ice house," Ji En said to Ji Aier. Today, he didn't ask her to carry the schoolbag but instead left both of their schoolbags in the security guard's room. Also, he wasn't with Ouyang Xue.

Ji Aier nodded, thinking that Ji En had finally been influenced and wouldn't take her to strange places to do strange things. He probably felt the heat too and wanted to go to an ice house to eat ice cream.

They soon found a decent - looking ice house near the school. The various ice creams in different shapes and styles on the advertisement made Ji Aier's mouth water.

"I want this, this, and this," Ji En kept pointing at the ice creams and said. To make matters worse for Ji Aier, he added, "All in the largest boxes."

When all those things were placed in front of them, Ji Aier held back her laughter because it was so ridiculous. Looking at Ji En's expression, she couldn't hold it in any longer and burst out laughing.

"Can you finish all this?" Ji Aier asked Ji En. She guessed that he would have diarrhea after eating all this.

"Who said I'm going to finish it all," Ji En said disdainfully. He wasn't crazy. How could he possibly finish all these ice creams? "I'm trying to figure out which flavor I like. The rest are all yours."

After saying that, he actually started scooping a spoonful from each ice cream to taste it. Finally, he chose one of them and pointed at the remaining ice creams with holes dug in them and said to Ji Aier, "These are all yours."

Ji Aier stared at him in disbelief, thinking that he was really a strange - thinking guy. And she definitely couldn't finish all these, and besides, she couldn't take the leftovers away. So she had an urge to ask the boss if she could store them and come back to finish them next time. But she knew it was impossible, so she thought even more that Ji En was a super - extravagant spendthrift.
