Chapter 136: Chapter 136

*Jax*

Claire laughed manically as she passed the knife across her neck. I rolled my eyes at her antics. There was no way she was actually going to take her own life when she was literally begging me to save hers.

The moment the blood splattered out of her mouth, I froze. Some of it splashed onto my face and I watched as her body crumbled into the floor. If it were old me, I would have ran to her and tried to save her but she was the reason Leonora had night mares. The reason I wasn’t sleeping well because I had to tend to Leonora and Xander at night.

She was the reason Leonora was scared. She was the reason why I exiled Leonora. She was the reason why Leonora ran from me. She did not deserve any sympathy rfrom me.

No!

There was no mercy for traitors. No mercy for people who were against my wife and my child. There was no mercy for trying to take my baby from my wife.

After our visit to the dungeon and seeing how scared Leonora was, I knew I had to make a tough decision. I needed to put my family first. I wanted Xander to grow up to be the best version of himself and that can only happen when Leonora and I are finally at peace. I didn’t want Xander to grow up in a dysfunctional family because I chose to save someone who was hurting Leonora and also hurting me.

I turned to look at Luke. There was nothing in his eyes as he stared back at me, daring me to go through with it.

"You’re just a weak man!" He screamed and thrashed around but the ropes held him down.

"Let this be a lesson to each and everyone one of you!" I started my announcement. "If you even think about betray the safety of any pack member, I will not hesitate to kill you!" I walked over to Luke. We stared at each other for what felt like eternity. I spat in his face and grabbed the nearest knife I could and wedged it deeply into his chest.

"Goodbye, Brother." I said to him as I pulled the knife and plunged the knife multiple times until I was sure that he wouldn’t be able to survive it.

I stepped away and stared at my hands. They were covered in blood and my face was splatted with Claire’s blood.

"You can all leave." I announced and watched as Luke bled out. It felt satisfying that I would not be dealing with his drama ever in my life. I touched the scar on my forehead. Luke was gone but his scar would remain with me forever.

I should be happy but I felt numb. I didn’t know what to do. I heard Luke give up his last breath and I took a step back.

I felt a hand on my shoulder and I turned around. Leonora stood with Xander in his baby sling. She had a look in her eyes. Peace? Maybe. I couldn’t tell.

"Baby, we’re here for you." Leonora said sweetly. I knew she had been trying to be there for me, even putting me first before emotions and I was grateful for it but I needed her to take a break from it. I needed her to be the carefree Leonora I knew. "We’re all here for you." I looked behind her and I saw Devon, Bethany and Micah standing in the distance. I didn’t know Micah was going to be here. "I called him to give you some support. I wanted you to be around people who loved you and cared about you."

"How did I ever get so lucky?" I asked and she gave me a small smile. She held up her hand and touched my cheek. She was so delicate and soft in this moment and I didn’t want to burden her with anything more.

"Do you want some space? We can go back and wait for you." She said as she slowly took the knife out of my hands. I didn’t realize that I was still holding onto it.

"It’s fine. Let’s go home. Thank you." I said and she smiled and took my bloodied hand in hers. She laced her fingers in mine, not caring about the blood on it.

She pulled me over to the group and they all gave me a warm hug. Leonora was so kind and gracious. We all walked back to the mansion.

"I’m going to make a very hearty dinner and we can all sit and watch a movie." Bethany suggested and there were positive responses all around.

"Definitely not action. Don’t forget we have a baby in our midst." Leonora said and everyone chuckled. They continued with their plans and all I could see was Claire’s body as it crumbled to the floor. I turned back and I saw a few guards taking their bodies away. I turned back to my new found family. The people who loved and cared about me.

"I think we should just get all the ice cream in the fridge and go crazy." I suggested and Leonora agreed.

As we got to the mansion, the chatter had increased and they weren’t talking about what we needed to do for dinner. I had mentally clocked out of the conversation but I was trying my best to be present for everyone.

"Why don’t you guys get ready and I’ll go and wash up." I said before walking away. I didn’t give anyone the chance to say anything before I left. I made my way to the room, ridding myself of the robe.

I entered into the bathroom and turned on the tap by the sink. I scrubbed the blood as hard as I could from my hand. I also washed my face to get the blood off.

I wanted to get the remnants of these people off me.
