The Lucky Farmgirl-Chapter 2014 - 1989: Total Annihilation
He yelled, "Ah!" and angrily said, "What are you all waiting for? Grab these two little wretches!"
Seizing the moment when Changyu was cracking her whip, Manbao had already emptied the contents of the bottle and hurled it directly at them.
They thought it was a hidden weapon and instinctively tried to dodge. Yet Manbao seemed to know exactly where they would dodge to. When they moved, the stuff ended up splattering directly on their faces, or if not on their faces, then on their bodies.
As soon as the stuff splattered on their faces, bodies, or the ground, it shattered immediately, and a strange smell rose violently. The two men at the forefront suddenly saw stars, their world turned upside down, and unable to suppress the nausea in their chests, they lurched forward and vomited.
Disgusted, Changyu took a step back, directly whipped them down to the ground, and cursed, "Filthy! Get lost!"
The two women rushing up from behind reacted even more fiercely. One of them directly fell onto the man in the lead with a thud and started vomiting on him.
Eventually, even Changyu caught a whiff of the smell, but since she had a bitter pill under her tongue, the scent only made her a little nauseous without making her swoon.
She immediately pulled out the handkerchief that Manbao had given her from her sleeve to cover her nose and mouth, but her right hand didn’t stop. Standing on the carriage, she continued to whip the people lying on the ground. If she wasn’t afraid of the stench, she would have scolded them too, yelling at them for not behaving, for being kidnappers, for having the audacity to grab her, the princess...
In the quiet alley, the only sounds were Changyu’s whip crackling and the relentless moaning and retching of the figures on the ground.
Covering her nose, Manbao also took two steps back, her face full of disdain. Seeing that Changyu had whipped their clothes to shreds, leaving blood marks all over their bodies, she considered getting off the carriage to give them an electric shock with her stick.
But then she looked at the vomit on the ground and felt too disgusted to bother. She simply dumped the remaining pills from the bottle and flung them all onto their bodies.
The people who still had some strength became completely limp, unable to muster any energy at all.
One of the women was so overwhelmed with nausea that her eyes rolled back, she convulsed a couple of times, and passed out.
It startled not only Manbao but also Changyu, who retracted her whip and stopped beating them. She hesitantly asked Manbao, "Could they...have died?"
Manbao also hesitated. "I don’t think so. These pills only make people weak and nauseous, induce vomiting, and cause hallucinations. They shouldn’t be deadly, right?"
Despite saying that, Manbao didn’t want to accidentally kill anyone, so she whipped the horse, driving the carriage to the side, and then dragged Third Lady to the edge of the carriage door. Her intention was to haul her down, but Changyu, thinking she was a human trafficker, refused to help.
And Third Lady was quite heavy. As Manbao dragged her to the carriage door, planning to slowly lower her, she lost her grip, and the woman fell off the carriage with a "thump."
Manbao withdrew her hand and looked at Changyu, who was standing below, "I swear I didn’t do it on purpose, do you believe me?"
Holding her whip, Changyu laughed uncontrollably and nodded, "I believe you."
So Manbao jumped off the carriage, checked on Third Lady, saw that she’d only bumped a swelling on her forehead, and felt relieved. She then grabbed her hands and dragged her off to the side.
Only then did she proceed to drag the other two women who had already rolled their eyes. But they had a lot of vomit on them, smelly and dirty, so Manbao covered her nose and mouth with a handkerchief in her left hand, grabbed one of their feet with her right hand, and dragged them off to the side.
Their heads knocked against the bluestone slabs, making "thud-thud" sounds. Watching from afar, Changyu thought, perhaps they didn’t appreciate Manbao’s help.
Manbao dragged them to the side, opened their mouths to check, and upon confirming that the vomit wasn’t obstructing their breathing, let go and stopped bothering with them.
As for the four men lying on the ground over there, she didn’t drag them, considering they seemed pretty strong. She had thrown the pills down precisely to ensure they wouldn’t have a chance to get up.
Only then did Manbao stand with Changyu at the vent to catch their breath. Earlier, Changyu had checked the surroundings and found that there was no one in the alley, not even in the nearby houses, as people might have gone to the main street to celebrate the festival. Or maybe no one lived in those houses to begin with.
Changyu asked, "What should we do?"
Manbao thought for a moment and replied, "How about we check on the people in the carriage?"
The two of them walked over to the two carriages parked on the side. Before lifting the curtain, she had Keke take a look, confirming that everyone inside was unconscious.
She lifted the curtain and saw that inside there were many young girls sitting against the walls. The first carriage had four, while the second had five, all aged between five to nine years old and very pretty.
One of them was even wearing silk, clearly from a wealthy family.
Changyu glanced at their faces and then, whip in hand, returned to the four men who hadn’t completely passed out yet, whipping them once more from a distance. Many lashes landed on their faces and eyes. After two or three strikes, their skin was split open, looking utterly miserable.
Manbao did not stop her. She climbed into the carriage, felt their pulses, and, upon confirming they had only been drugged, breathed a sigh of relief. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
After thinking it over, she rummaged through her sleeve pouch, took out a bottle, poured out a dozen small pills, and fed them two each directly.
Having whipped to her heart’s content, Changyu turned around and ran back up, asking, "Why do you have so many pills on you?"
Manbao replied, "They’re for self-defense."
These were pills she had made over the years and kept in her space. Many had expired without being used, some of which could be sold before expiring to earn a little money at Jishi Hall. However, the pills she stored in her space were a bit peculiar, so most ended up being thrown away after expiring, with very few ever being actually used or sold.
The rest were for protection for the likes of Silang, who often traveled.
Manbao added, "I’ve had them for quite a while, this is the first time I’m actually using them."
The bitter pill in Changyu’s mouth had already melted away, and she now found her mouth feeling slightly sweet and cool, surprisingly pleasant. So she asked, "Do you have any more of those pills from earlier?"
Manbao said, "Those don’t really count as pills; they’re mint-infused energizing pills."
She explained, "I use them when I’m tired of studying and just don’t want to read anymore. Sucking on one will perk you right up."
Changyu looked horrified, "Is that how all of you study?"
"It’s not too bad. Senior Brother Bai actually thinks they’re quite nice. Just the other day, he asked for a pouch to eat them as a snack." This was the most commonly used type—not just by her, but Bai Shan and Bai Erlang too. Occasionally, she even gave some to Zhou Lixue and the rest.
Unfortunately, Yin Huo and Liu Huan didn’t like them. Otherwise, she could make a bit of money. Bai Shan and the others never paid when they ate these pills.
