The Long Road to Love: The Capable CEO Dad-Chapter 554: He Finally Understands the Meaning of Marriage
Eleanor Hollis felt warmth in her heart and nestled into his embrace.
In truth, the wedding gown could have easily been bought, there was no need to go through the arduous process of designing it, but seeing Hugo Quinn so immersed and happy, she couldn’t bring herself to say anything.
After lying down on the bed, Hugo’s mind was still buzzing with ideas about the wedding dress. He got up, opened his computer, and added his newfound inspiration.
Beside him, Eleanor was already asleep, looking like a small bundle, utterly endearing.
He bent down, left a soft kiss on her hair, then quietly got out of bed and went to the balcony.
Since he began designing the wedding dress, he had been very excited. When the idea first struck him, he was so thrilled that he couldn’t sleep the entire night.
He and Eleanor Hollis had already registered their marriage; although they’d nearly divorced several times, they had managed to stay together till now.
He had been married once before. Back then, he had done nothing, as everything had been arranged by the old man. He merely made time to walk down the aisle, and it seemed like everything was over.
He thought weddings should be like that, but after meeting Eleanor Hollis, he realized the true meaning of marriage.
He wished fervently to design every part himself without anyone else’s involvement, believing it would hold more significance this way.
Hugo took out a cigarette, paused to think, and eventually decided not to smoke.
Ever since he learned that Eleanor detested the smell of smoke, he hadn’t smoked for a long time, as if it had become a habit.
He put the cigarette down, a hint of tenderness flashing across his eyes.
In the distance, the city was aglow with countless lights, looking so enchanting. Previously, standing atop the Grandeur Group, all he felt was cold and isolated, but now his mindset was different, perhaps because the person he loved lay in the room behind him.
"Why aren’t you asleep so late?"
Eleanor draped in a coat, got up and, seeing him lost in thought on the balcony, joined him outside.
Her gaze fell on a whole untouched cigarette in the ashtray.
Warmth filled her heart, and she took a deep breath.
"The night air is pretty nice, are you worried about those things over there, that’s why you can’t sleep?"
Hugo shook his head, looking out at the distant bright lights.
"I was thinking about our wedding, just the thought of it excites me to the point where I can’t sleep. I’ve already designed the wedding dress, and in half a month, it’ll be completed. By then, I’ll go with you to try on the wedding dress, okay?"
It turns out this was why he couldn’t sleep.
Eleanor found it amusing that the usually high-and-mighty Hugo Quinn would lose sleep over such trifling matters.
"Okay."
She reached out and held his hand; spending such an evening watching the night scene with him indeed felt wonderful.
"It’s cold outside, let’s go back in."
Hugo led her back inside the room.
Eleanor followed him, watching him very carefully move the computer aside, acknowledging that he had been thinking about the wedding dress until just now.
"Honestly, I don’t want you to tire yourself out like this. We can totally leave the wedding dress to someone else."
"This is different."
Hugo’s expression was earnest as he lifted his head to look at her.
"I want to design a wedding dress for you, Eleanor, don’t stop me, let’s go to sleep."
Eleanor knew saying more was futile, so she lay back down on the bed.
Early the next morning, she went next door to check on Marcus’s health. Marcus was recovering quickly, and the doctor said he could start exercising again. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
"Mommy, did you hear that? I can go out now."
Marcus, excited, tried to get dressed, but Eleanor stopped him.
"Even if you go out, it can only be around the villa, nowhere else until you rest for another half month."
Marcus’s face turned pale instantly. "Mommy, just around the villa then, if I stay in this room any longer, I’ll surely grow mushrooms."
Eleanor smiled, then started dressing him.
Marcus ran quickly, wandering here and there, sometimes fixating on a flower as if he’d never seen one before.
"Mommy, look at this."
Marcus picked a blue flower and noticed its juice had stained his fingers blue, looking quite pretty.
"Don’t be naughty, it might get on your clothes later."
Walking slowly, Eleanor deduced what he was up to and called out.
Marcus hurriedly tossed the flower into a nearby bin, not daring to touch it again.
"Miss Hollis, young master, the meal is ready."
A servant called out from the floor-to-ceiling window, so Eleanor hurriedly led Marcus back inside.
Hugo was there too, but he hadn’t gone out with them; instead, he was seated on the sofa reading a newspaper.
The TV was playing the morning news, reporting that a car had suddenly lost control, killing several pedestrians.
The faces in the news were blurred, but Eleanor instantly recognized that one of the women resembled Faye Holloway.
She immediately called to confirm, and the hospital gave a clear response that there was indeed someone named Faye Holloway, who was currently being resuscitated, but the chances of revival were slim.
Frightened, Eleanor quickly called Jude Shaw to tell him about it.
Jude was on a yacht at the time and, after hearing what Eleanor said, replied with a faint "hmm" before hanging up.
Vivian Jacobs, wearing a cool swimsuit and a pink hat, was standing at the front of the yacht enjoying the view.
"Vivian."
Jude approached her, realizing from the start that Vivian wanted to come on this vacation just to avoid his mother.
"Hmm?"
Vivian turned her head, a slight blush on her face.
"Your mother’s in trouble, in the hospital being resuscitated. Let’s go back."
The smile on Vivian’s face froze, and she gave a faint "oh," then stared blankly at the shimmering water ahead.
Jude remained silent, not knowing what to say.
"Jude, honestly, I have little feeling for her. From a young age, my mother seldom cared about me. All I remember is her constantly lamenting about the man who abandoned her. Even now, when it’s anything about Gabriel Jacobs, she can always compromise herself and also make me compromise. If it weren’t for her love for Gabriel, she wouldn’t have given birth to me. Maybe I’m heartless, but after hearing you, my heart is calm. I know her ending won’t be good."
Jude embraced her from behind.
"Whatever happens, let’s go back to see."
Vivian nodded, and the two returned home that evening, heading straight to the hospital.
The doctor handed Faye Holloway’s phone to Vivian, "This is the lady’s phone. She was probably rushing to meet someone at the time. Are you her daughter? We’ll give the phone to you, take a look."
Vivian took it, standing silent in the hallway.
The doctor had been resuscitating for a long time, yet no news had come.
Finally, unable to hold back, she unlocked the phone with Gabriel Jacobs’ birthday. The interface was quickly unlocked.
The phone still showed the chat interface where Faye Holloway had been messaging Gabriel Jacobs, but Gabriel had not replied.
