The Long Road to Love: The Capable CEO Dad-Chapter 538: Jude Shaw Is Getting Married
Eleanor Hollis sat beside him, holding the child’s hand without letting go.
Hugo Quinn took her hand, squeezed it in his palm, and they exchanged a glance full of affection.
Soon, the doctor came in to change Marcus’s dressing and couldn’t help but find their sweetness amusing. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"Mr. Quinn and Miss Hollis really have a good relationship."
They say there’s no true love in wealthy families, but clearly, that’s not the case here.
Eleanor Hollis was embarrassed to answer, so she could only pull her hand away.
After the doctor left, Hugo Quinn held her hand in his palm again.
"Shy?"
His voice carried a hint of laughter, and he lowered his head to plant a kiss on the back of her hand.
Eleanor Hollis’s face blushed even more. It was strange, although she had been intimate with him so many times, she still felt shy and uneasy when meeting his eyes like this.
"Ahem, am I interrupting you?"
Jude Shaw stood at the door, not sure how long he’d been there.
Eleanor Hollis hastily pulled her hand back and shot Hugo Quinn a glance.
"If you know you’re interrupting, why don’t you leave quickly."
Hugo Quinn said calmly, showing no courtesy.
"Hugo, what are you saying?"
Eleanor Hollis scolded, smiling embarrassedly at Jude Shaw.
Jude Shaw raised an eyebrow and came in to sit.
Recently, he had also come to see Marcus, but usually at different times from them. He knew what happened with Hugo recently and probably wanted to be alone with Eleanor Hollis.
"Let’s have a meal together; it’s been a long time since we had a gathering."
He felt a bit sentimental. Too much had happened to everyone; after this meal, he too would be getting married.
Jude Shaw personally announced the marriage during the gathering, leaving everyone in disbelief.
Lately, both Jude Shaw and Julian Sterling had been quite downcast. Everyone thought they would continue that way until they forgot the person.
"You..."
Julian Sterling opened his mouth but didn’t know what to say, tightly gripping his cup.
Jude Shaw was indeed not getting any younger and should get married. Among them, he was the only one who had never even had a girlfriend from beginning to end.
Jude Shaw smiled faintly, "I’ve already called her; she’ll be here soon, so you all can meet her."
Eleanor Hollis kept her eyes on the door, eager to know what Jude Shaw’s bride-to-be looked like.
But when the girl came in from outside, Eleanor’s hand holding the cup froze.
She couldn’t tell exactly how she resembled Gloria, but the girl indeed looked very similar. Perhaps her aura matched Gloria’s too well, so the moment she came in, everyone had a moment of illusion.
"Bastard!!"
Julian Sterling finally couldn’t hold back and grabbed his collar, landing a punch on his face.
Even if he couldn’t forget Gloria, he shouldn’t ruin another girl’s life!
Jude Shaw took the punch head-on, spat out some blood, and calmly wiped his mouth.
Hugo Quinn and Evan Yancy both stood up. In their minds, because of Gloria, these two had had more than one conflict like this.
"Do you know why I hit you? Gloria was my wife! Now you’re marrying a woman who looks like her right in front of me! What do you want to tell me?! What do you want to say?!"
Julian Sterling was very agitated, wanting to land another punch on Jude Shaw, but midway, Hugo Quinn stopped him.
Hugo’s eyes were full of disapproval as he quietly watched him.
Julian Sterling’s shoulders slumped, his eyes immediately turning red.
Recently, he had been tormented a lot. As soon as he closed his eyes, Gloria’s face would appear, even though he hadn’t fully remembered every moment with her. Yet, since knowing that name, his body and heart had been in turmoil.
"I’m sorry."
Jude Shaw lowered his gaze, seemingly not wanting to argue any further on this matter.
"I want to forget, but I can’t."
Julian Sterling’s face was full of mockery as he glanced at the girl, only to find that her eyes were filled with a determined gaze, just like Gloria’s earnest pursuit of love.
"I know he likes another woman in his heart. I look a lot like that woman, but I have no regrets. I really like him, and I believe I can move him with sincerity."
I believe I can move him with sincerity...
Wasn’t that what Gloria thought when she married Julian Sterling?
Everyone fell silent, feeling as if Gloria had truly returned.
Julian Sterling sat in his seat, not saying a word, looking blankly at the glass in front of him as if resigned.
The girl slowly walked over, helped Jude Shaw up from the ground, looking at his face with distress.
"Are you okay? Does it hurt?"
Jude Shaw shook his head and sat down next to Julian Sterling.
"Julian, I know this puts you in a tough spot, but feelings are complicated. She’s very similar to Gloria, but ultimately, she’s not her. I never had Gloria, not even someone who looks like her. Is it fair if even that is taken away from me? If so, Julian, you’re being too cruel."
Gloria had wholeheartedly loved Julian Sterling in her lifetime; her body and soul belonged to him.
But what about him? What did he gain from it? From the very beginning, he had been in a state of unrequited love.
Besides that kiss, nothing else remained.
Julian Sterling closed his eyes. The turbulent emotions in his chest finally calmed.
He was angry, but also envious of Jude Shaw, envious that he could move on so quickly from this hopeless love affair. But what about him? He could only live increasingly soberly with that guilt.
Julian Sterling’s eyes turned red as he poured Jude Shaw a glass of wine.
"I know you blame me, blame me for not cherishing her back then. Jude, drink up; I’ll attend your wedding. I hope you won’t follow in my footsteps. If you’ve decided to be together, cherish it."
His voice choked, and after saying these words, he couldn’t hold back anymore, and tears fell.
The initially joyful gathering had turned somber because of this incident.
The two drank in silence, and Julian Sterling stood up, slightly swaying.
Next to him, Evan Yancy supported him, his gaze heavy and unable to bear their entanglement any longer.
"I should go, sorry, you all continue."
Julian Sterling said lightly, pushing away Evan Yancy, and slowly left.
Jude Shaw remained seated, knowing that marrying a girl like this would ultimately hurt Julian Sterling.
"Jude, you shouldn’t drink anymore. Your stomach isn’t well, and more alcohol will be harmful."
The girl walked up, put his glass down, and gently patted his shoulder.
Jude Shaw nodded, turned his head, and smiled gently at her.
"Alright, let’s go home."
The girl nodded obediently and put his arm around her neck.
