The Last King Of Darkness-Chapter 1628 - 768: Battle of the Starry Sky (Part 2)
Rod exclaimed, "Why? Isn’t mastering more Source Laws a good thing? I’m burning the Star... Soul Fire Spark and I’m about to die from exhaustion."
The King raised his hand, and a scorching golden flame ignited in his palm.
"Spiritual Energy can ignite a flame similar to the Holy Fire through the Source Law of Eternal Burning Fire. It is called ’Burning Fire,’ and it can transform infinitely, forming various shapes. By adjusting the density within the Burning Fire, each shape has its unique uses. For instance, the Flame Giant Sword: gather the Burning Fire at its tip for powerful piercing ability, at its blade for extreme sharpness, or on its body for heaviness. Quickly traversing the Burning Fire across the blade grants it extremely high temperature."
"A person’s energy is limited. Burning Fire itself has infinite uses, with greater power and higher position. Why delve into other abilities?"
Rod widened his eyes; for the first time, he understood in such detail one of the seven characteristics of the Royal City — ’Eternal Burning Fire.’ No wonder it is considered the most important characteristic, unrivaled in importance. Besides resonating with the Holy Fire, it is immensely powerful on its own.
The King raised his hands, palms inward, fingertips up; infinite Burning Fire boiled out from his body, and at that moment, it was as if a sun rose. He entered the state he assumed when battling the Blood God.
"Throughout these millennia, every Guardian of the Holy Fire, every King of human nations, has had a fighting style they excelled at. This style they would train and research continually, eventually becoming akin to an instinctive existence."
"This is our Fire instinct."
"The predecessor King’s Fire instinct was Nine Stars in a Row, the Starry Queen’s was the Power of Stars, the Pope of Saint Reel’s was the Dusk Glow Ring."
"And my Fire instinct is the Darkness Breaking Sword!"
Bang!
Raging fire burst forth; a Flame Giant Sword tens of thousands of yards long streaked across the sky, piercing through a giant shadow that suddenly emerged from the transparent Spirit Realm.
The flames burst rapidly, and in the blink of an eye, the shadow was reduced to ashes.
Even though it happened extremely fast, Rod still saw it clearly.
It was a Black Fog Symbiont, a powerful one he’d never seen before, its body like a compact mass of black substance, filled with rotten Source Black Fog, its Spiritual Power reaching level 17, with Absolute Spiritual Power Strength at least half of Rod’s.
More terrifying is that Rod clearly saw that its decaying Dark Soul flowed with Primordial Spirit Power, a level equivalent to his, but with a field in his soul rejecting and opposing its Source Law Field, yet its Soul Body clearly lacked Source Laws.
Just like the previous Black Fog Demon.
This Black Fog Symbiont had about a quarter or fifth of the strength of the former Black Fog Demon, but it was clearly just a regular Black Fog Symbiont.
Rod fully activated Eye of the Soul, surveying the scene.
Indeed, beneath the transparent Spirit Realm substance, many such shadows were hidden.
And beneath the twinkling darkness were even stronger entities.
The King said gravely, "These are monsters from the Starry Sky. They are very dangerous and highly intelligent. This was an individual recklessly approaching; I had to strike with all my strength to kill it, or it would escape and hide, waiting in the shadows to launch a surprise attack. After my strike, no Black Fog Symbiont will come within this range again."
Only then did Rod notice that many Black Fog Symbionts had quietly retreated, with none within the previous range.
Fear and an icy chill spread from his heart; had Black Fog Symbionts developed some sort of intelligence? Or was there a manipulator behind them?
If this continues, could a dark civilization unique to the Black Fog eventually emerge?
In the Dream Realm, the voice of the Book of Knowledge became very cautious: "Master, this kind of intelligence is extraordinary, but it’s not rational. I sense its chaotic nature—it resembles mimicry."
"Mimicry?"
"I don’t know how to describe this feeling; it’s like the Black Fog has observed human behavior and produced conditioned reflexes. This observation is not a behavior of wisdom; it’s like a footprint left in the sand, a sort of reflection."
The Book of Knowledge paused briefly before continuing.
"Do you remember what the Pope’s testament mentioned? He had once seen fallen human warriors reappear after being killed."
Rod nodded, never forgetting a single word of the Pope’s testament.
"I can hardly believe it—there exists such an incomprehensible horror as the Black Fog."
He paused and asked, "King, what shall we do now?"
The King said gravely, "The Holy Fire must never be threatened. All Black Fog Symbionts in this area must be exterminated. But this task cannot be accomplished by me alone; I must guard the Holy Fire, cannot attack or pursue them, so I need your assistance. Little Rod, your True King state is incomplete and lacks the full True King power. If facing these Black Fog Symbionts proves difficult, drive them into my attack range, and I’ll eliminate them."
"Remember, my maximum attack range is 38,210 yards; within this range, you are safe."
Rod estimated the distance and memorized its boundary.
"I understand, don’t worry, King, none of them will escape."
With that, Rod activated his Spiritual Energy, its sudden surge catapulting him like lightning, instantly crossing the 38,210-yard threshold.
The Black Fog Symbionts showed little reaction to his arrival; neither withdrawing nor advancing, just gradually emerging from the semi-transparent Spirit Realm substance.
The stench, death, profundity, and dark aura all rushed toward him. They were roughly a hundred yards tall, not particularly huge among monsters, but that ancient decaying essence was unmatched by any other monster. Their bodies resembled viscous oil, or darkness deprived of light, with an immense and heavy torso, exceedingly long limbs, especially the arms, but lacking a head, only two pairs of black-glowing eyes on their torso’s midsection.
These were the Black Fog Symbionts from the Starry Sky.
The 17-level Spiritual Energy pressed upon him, the Source Law Field stretching open and squeezing his soul.
Rod did not hastily unleash his Spiritual Energy, nor did he open his Soul Field. Quickly, the Black Fog Symbionts launched their attacks on him.
From their torsos, enormous mouths abruptly split open, spewing out black light cannons like violent rain. Instead of evading, Rod charged toward them, with more Black Fog Symbionts emerging and attacking from the Spirit Realm.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Rod lifted his Spiritual Defense, charging against the black light cannons to reach their center.
[Eye of Divine]
Rod’s gaze swept over, and the black light cannons dissipated like ink droplets dispersed.
[Superstar Flash]
Destructive white light lit up the Spirit Realm, with flowers of death blooming in Space, and petals of swords piercing all the Black Fog Symbionts.
With just one strike, dozens of Black Fog Symbionts were completely annihilated. Strong they might be, they could not withstand the full-powered [Superstar Flash].
Rod inhaled, directly activating the [Great Spiritual Tide].
The depleted Spiritual Energy swiftly replenished, but all Black Fog Symbionts quickly distanced themselves.
Clearly, this tactic could only be used once.
Worse yet, Rod found he received no souls.
Clearly, these Black Fog Symbionts are some kind of derivative.
Unless he kills the original body, there will be no harvest.
Rod took a deep breath and rapidly flew in another direction, with Black Fog Symbionts scattering widely. Although their speed couldn’t match Rod’s, it greatly reduced his killing efficiency.
Moreover, these Black Fog Symbionts were very resilient; without [Superstar Flash], they couldn’t be slain easily.
Even worse, Rod noticed that all Black Fog Symbionts had kept a distance from one another, exactly matching the distance of his [Superstar Flash] just unleashed.
"Is the Black Fog evolving too quickly?"
Rod worried, pondering when he could completely eliminate these Black Fog Symbionts.
At that moment.
