The Labyrinth of the Monsters-Chapter 54 – Ten Dragon Fort
Late at night, two cars drove towards a cultural pedestrian street in the Feiyang District. White Rabbit said that there was a barbecue restaurant there that served delicious barbecue, and they also offered spicy rabbit head, which was exceptionally tasty.
"Aren't you White Rabbit?" Gao Yang asked in surprise.
"So, I want to eat rabbit," White Rabbit replied confidently.
"Alright..." Gao Yang found her reasoning somewhat convincing.
In the car, Gao Yang first called his mother to explain why he hadn't been home for nearly 48 hours and why his phone had been turned off. Without a doubt, he used Wang Zikai as an excuse.
His mother was in a good mood. Gao Yang's father had woken up and was in better health than expected. Perhaps because of this, she didn't ask too many questions and just told Gao Yang to come home early.
After hanging up the phone, Gao Yang noticed that the two girls next to him were looking at him, making him feel a bit awkward.
"Don't you guys call your family?" he asked.
"What's there to call about?" White Rabbit said disdainfully. "They're all beasts anyway."
"What about you?" Gao Yang asked Qing Ling.
"I don't have any family," Qing Ling replied.
Feeling that it would be a long story, Gao Yang wisely didn't ask any further.
Half an hour later, the police car stopped at an intersection. Officer Huang took out the car keys. "We're here."
The group got out of the car and arrived at the cultural pedestrian street. The buildings here were designed in an antique style, with wooden pavilions and red lanterns, giving the feeling of being in a martial arts world.
The street was crowded with people and filled with lights and excitement.
The group pushed against the crowd and quickly arrived at the middle of the pedestrian street. Between a milk tea shop and a convenience store, there was a narrow path that was one meter wide and pitch black, stretching endlessly.
White Rabbit went in first, followed closely by the others.
Leading everyone through the alley with twists and turns, White Rabbit passed through two residential houses along the way. Five minutes later, they arrived at a new world.
It was a circular square the size of a football field, with a withered ancient tree in the middle. The bare branches were adorned with colorful light bulbs, twinkling as if they were experiencing a rebirth in a different way.
The square was surrounded by old buildings, four or five stories high. Neon signs and decorations from various eras mixed together, giving a sense of a cyber world.
"Is this your base?" Gao Yang looked around and couldn't help but ask.
"This place is called Shilong Village. It's one of the common places for the Awakened Beings," White Rabbit said as she walked forward. "After all, if a group of Awakened Beings gather in other places, it's easy to arouse suspicion. But here, we don't have to worry about that."
"Only stable Lost Ones and Awakened Beings are here," Wu Dahai added casually with his hands in his pockets. "Awakened Beings can chat, trade, and flirt with confidence here."
"Why?" Gao Yang asked.
"You have so many questions. Are you a curious baby?" White Rabbit looked at him disdainfully. "In simple terms, a powerful Awakened Being made some arrangements here, so the beasts outside of the Lost Ones can't find this place or enter."
"Who?" Qing Ling asked.
"The owner of this territory," White Rabbit pointed with her finger. "Just a friendly reminder, he's not part of our organization. Don't cause trouble here, or you'll bear the consequences."
Gao Yang didn't say anything. He quickly processed the information he had gathered so far:
1. The Awakened Beings in this city have formed a small society, which is enough for them to protect themselves, but not enough to resist or overthrow the rule of the beasts. Gao Yang wasn't surprised by this. With a ratio of one in ten thousand, there were at least 400 humans in this city. Assuming half of them had awakened, the number was not insignificant.
2. There is more than one organization of Awakened Beings, not just the "Zodiac."
3. Judging from White Rabbit's tone, the organizations seem to cooperate and balance each other. This is still uncertain.
The group arrived at a dilapidated building on the west side of the square. The corridor seemed to have collapsed and was blocked by cement and bricks. Next to it was a large iron cage adorned with small light bulbs, as big as a goods elevator.
White Rabbit pointed to the cage with her chin, and the group walked in.
"I don't like going into cages. I usually just jump directly," White Rabbit said as she closed the door for everyone and reached for a rope on the iron cage, pulling it three times.
"Ding-ling, ding-ling, ding-ling." The bell hanging on the cage rang three times.
"Clang." The iron cage slowly ascended, revealing a long corridor on the fifth floor. White Rabbit had already jumped up by now. She flipped down from the top of the cage and waved her hand. "Let's go."
The group followed White Rabbit to the entrance of a shop. Outside the door hung a wooden sign that said "Barbecue," and there was no actual door, just a simple door curtain with tassels.
They lifted the curtain and walked in. The rooms inside were connected, with an industrial feel and at least twenty barbecue tables.
White Rabbit walked up to the counter, where a charming boss lady sat. She was heavily made up, wearing a sexy red cheongsam that showcased her figure. Her fairy-like shiny white hair was gently pinned up with a black hairpin, and a few strands of white hair hung on her fair shoulders, giving her a graceful and enchanting look.
She raised her long white legs, sitting lazily on a high stool, smoking a water pipe with a lazy expression. When a customer came, she put down her exquisite purple water pipe and glanced at the group with her enchanting, affectionate peach blossom eyes.

Gao Yang, Officer Huang, Wang Zikai, and Chubby Jun were momentarily stunned, their hearts skipping a beat. This attraction was not a natural infatuation, but a dominant, overpowering allure that captivated the mind.
Snap. White Rabbit snapped her fingers. The men quickly snapped back to reality.
"Madam, could you please not set your sights on these workplace newcomers? It took me quite some effort to recruit them," White Rabbit said with a grin, her words carrying a subtle warning.
"What are you talking about, young lady? I'm just an old woman, these handsome men wouldn't be interested in me." The madam replied with a slight smile, "Would you gentlemen prefer a booth or a private room?"
"We'll take a booth, by the window."
"Booth 19 is available, off you go." The madam gently rang a small bell on the counter, "We'll have it ready for you shortly."
White Rabbit led the group past the bustling barbecue tables to a booth at the back of the restaurant, by the window.
The so-called window was actually a large hole in the wall, devoid of glass. The night wind whistled in, making it look like it had been smashed open with a wrecking ball.
Officer Huang, Wang Zikai, and Chubby Jun sat in a row, with Gao Yang, Qing Ling, and White Rabbit sitting opposite them, and Wu Dahai in the middle.
Gao Yang had initially wanted to sit with the other men, but for some reason, there seemed to be a subtle magnetic field between them, attracting and repelling them. They ended up sitting in this arrangement seemingly by chance.
"That madam," Chubby Jun seemed a bit dazed, still reminiscing, "She's truly a beauty of this world. She's not my type, but the moment I saw her, my blood started pumping, I had trouble breathing, and my mind was filled with some rather unsavory images."
"Same here," Officer Huang said, taking a drag from his cigarette, his tone slightly defeated, "This shouldn't be happening. I'm very loyal to my wife. Could it really be... the seven-year itch?"
"Hahahaha!" Wu Dahai burst into laughter.
"Don't blame yourselves. The madam is also an Awakened Being. Her Talent is 'Charm', Serial Number: 61. Rune type: Mental Strength." White Rabbit opened the menu, then seemed to remember something, "Oh right, she's a man."
