Chapter 439: 438. Calm And Composed? (1)

"Ma-Master... It’s Young Master Kai—he... he was taken by someone!"

My heart nearly came to a stop as I heard that, and my mind went blank with only my instincts suddenly taking charge.

"Where are you?"

"On the—urgh—Sylvia, wait!"

"Rowan?!" I growled, and Roan looked at me worriedly as he tried to listen too.

"What’s wrong? What happened to Young Master?" he asked, and I gritted my teeth.

Suddenly I heard a sharp hoot which made me look up—it was Nox. He flew above us, hooting urgently.

I leapt off the bench, making him take off in one direction. I started running behind him, bumping into the crowd and nearly shoving people out of my way as I followed Nox. He flew towards the southern side where the forest was—it was the opposite side of my Oasis and Eldarf.

I activated the Life Connection with Kai and was blocked for some reason.

[Life Connection blocked.]

"Why the hell?!"

I tried it several times, but it came up as blocked. It was driving me crazy. What happened? Who dared to lay their hands on Kai? Where were they?!

"Master!" I heard Roan call behind me, his voice seeming farther and farther back as I increased speed to keep up with Nox.

Once I was out of sight, I unfurled my wings and took flight with Nox. On my way, I spotted Rowan running towards the forest.

"Rowan?!" I shouted, making him look up.

"Tha-That way!" he shouted, pointing straight ahead, and I nodded, giving the three pairs of my wings one strong flap which propelled me ahead at a speed which might match that of the speed of sound.

Suddenly, I felt the explosion happen a couple of meters away, and I dove right towards the area and saw Sylvia coughing as she held Kai by her side. But that wasn’t what caught my attention—it was the two prominent presences before them that made my blood run cold.

One was that of a Dragon, and the second was a vile void which I couldn’t brush away from my memory even if I could. Strangely enough, the void of mana faded away, leaving behind only one presence.

The smoke dispersed and a figure swayed and fell to the ground. I landed near Sylvia and Kai. Kai coughed and looked at me with dazed eyes and flushed cheeks. For some reason, the mana flow in his body seemed disrupted.

His heartbeat was erratic, and he was breathing heavily, as if even the intake of air was agonizing.

"Kai," I whispered as I held his arm, pulling him close, and he groaned.

"Ma-Master..." His fingers weakly clung to my coat, and I couldn’t help but feel the shimmering rage increase.

It was impossible for anyone or any weapon to mess with the mana of a Dragon—then how come?

I turned my head and looked at the small figure who lay unconscious in the middle of the crater that was created because of that explosion.

"Sylvia, go check if they’re alive," I commanded, and she moved instantly after glancing worriedly at Kai.

I held Kai in my arms and placed my hand over his heart, casting the Supreme Healing spell. My mana flowed into his body, encompassing his heart, which was being attacked by the erratically flowing mana. He groaned, clenching his teeth, but then his mana slowly started flowing in proper harmony. His breathing became even, and so did his heartbeats. I closed my eyes, holding him close to my chest as I finally felt relieved.

"Master, he’s alive!" Sylvia said, and I calmed myself before I turned my head.

"Bring him to Ryujin," I commanded and reverted my form back to male Ocean before I covered Kai up in my coat and scooped him up in my arms.

We all returned to Ryujin, and I laid Kai down in his bed carefully, watching as he slept. I brushed my hand over his head tenderly, feeling his mana and his internal body to be healthy and fine.

There were a lot of questions that I had, and this rage was growing with every passing second. Who would dare to lay a hand on my Kai? Who was so eager to die that they were making me their enemy?

I looked at Nox, who was sitting beside Kai’s head, and I brushed my hand over his feathers.

"Thank you for coming straight to me, Nox," I said, and he hooted softly before he trained his gaze on Kai.

Enora stood at a little distance from us.

"Enora, look after him and let me know the instant he wakes up," I spoke as I moved from the bed towards the door.

Once outside, I saw Remi, who waited for me looking anxious.

"Master, how’s Young Master Kai?" he asked as soon as I stepped out.

"He’s fine now," I said and then looked at him. He shuddered on instinct.

"M-Miss Sylvia is in the guest room with the boy. The doctor checked him. He has some severe injuries, and his condition is quite fragile. Doctor said that it would be best if he rested," he quickly explained, and I nodded before turning my eyes on him again.

"Gather every one of our guards stationed in Oasis within an hour. I need to see every single one of them."

Maybe it was the way I enunciated my intention that made him pale, and his heart hammered.

"Yes, Master! I’ll do it right away."

He rushed off while I made my way towards the guest room where Sylvia and that Dragon were. It was unlikely for a Dragon to get injured, but if the opponent were a demon, then there were repercussions of the fight on both sides. Despite the Dragon having an upper hand, it was inevitable that he would not be unscathed.

I opened the door of the guest room and entered. Sylvia at once kneeled when she saw me. Rowan was sent back to Eldarf to check if the rest of the kids had made it back safely, and a while ago, he had responded that everyone was safely at home.

I walked up to Sylvia and gestured for her to rise. She stood back up, staggering a little, and I sighed, holding her hand before I looked at the bed.

A small boy, who looked like he could be around five or even six years old, was lying there breathing heavily, looking in pain.

"Even after the doctor checked on him and gave him some medicine, his condition hasn’t improved," she said, and I nodded, then turned my attention to her.

"What about you?" I asked, and she blinked, lowering her eyes.

"I’m fine, Master... I’m sorry, this is the second time that I failed to carry out my duties," she spoke, and I sighed.

I turned her to face me and had a look at the injuries and burn marks that were on her face and arms. She did try to fight an opponent that was beyond her league.

"Do you know what you fought for my Kai today?" I asked, and she shook her head.

"I... I don’t know what it was exactly but... he was so vile and repulsive that I knew he was an enemy. Besides, he shot something at Young Master Kai," she said, and my eyebrows twitched.

I looked once at the boy before I pulled her away and sat her down on the armchair before taking a seat myself.

"Report," I spoke, and she nodded.

"After we separated, we watched the parade. Young Master Kai had been insistent on watching everyone from close, so Rowan and I helped him get ahead. Prince Eric and Prince Rune seemed—"

"Sylvia, give me the report of what exactly happened regarding that person," I spoke firmly, cutting her off, and she gulped.

"Yes, I’m sorry, Master," she said and then resumed.

"After the parade, we were going through the stalls to eat something when Young Master Kai suddenly became anxious. I also felt something amiss, and then Young Master Kai just started running towards the south... He was chasing this presence."

I gritted my teeth. I’d told him not to be reckless, yet he was chasing something that nearly kidnapped him.

"Rowan and I ran behind him, and suddenly the man he was chasing turned and shot something at Young Master Kai. It was strange, but then Young Master Kai just collapsed, and we gave it a fight. That man was really strong and was using a strange dark magic... He was using black flames that burned us, and then he grabbed Young Master Kai and started running away. I told Rowan to contact you while I gave him a chase."

She clenched her fists as she continued, "That man ran towards the forest, but despite my speed, it was difficult to catch up. He kept going right and left to shake me off. But then—"

She looked at the boy. "He came out of nowhere."

I glanced at him too. "He was using light magic. The blow from the light magic made that man drop Young Master Kai, and these two fought until he won, and the man disappeared."

So, this child saved my kids.

"I was shocked to see a Dragon appear, and for a second, I thought it might be you but... this one’s presence is different. It’s rather... weak. But he fought to save us."

I nodded in understanding and stood up. She quickly rose to her feet as well, and I walked toward her and gently touched her cheek, casting the Supreme Healing spell. She blinked as my mana recovered her body.

"Return to Eldarf." Her eyes widened.

"Pardon?!" she gasped, and I sighed.

"Things are messy right now, Sylvia. We don’t know why that being attacked, but it’s dangerous. I want all of you kids to be safe. So, return and tell everyone that it’s my order that none of the kids, under any circumstances, are to leave the safety of Eldarf. If they go out, then I’ll punish them severely, and I’m not in a mood for being lenient since the situation is dire right now. Do you understand?" I asked, and she nodded.

I patted her head and then looked at the child. She left the room, and I walked up to him, taking a seat on the edge of the bed, watching his small face.

It was strange, but his presence seemed familiar for some reason. He had platinum blonde hair, and his presence was indeed very weak, but he was a Dragon. I reached out and brushed my hand over his burning forehead and pursed my lips.

This child had taken such a great risk to save Kai and Sylvia. There must be something that I wasn’t seeing.

Someone was contracting a demon again. Though this one was defeated already, I had a bad feeling.
