The Kingmaker System-Chapter 357 - 356. Matter Of Faith (1)
Chapter 357: 356. Matter Of Faith (1)
I saw as Eric slumped over the armchair when returned back to his room with his heavy Princely attire removed and only had his black trousers and white dress shirt with the top two buttons popped open.
He ran a hand through his hair ruffling them messily.
"You seem really worked up, Your Highness." I spoke making him jolt up and look around.
"Master?!" He gasped as he quickly started fixing his messed up attire and I chuckled.
"It’s fine, you don’t have to be like this in front of me." I said as I removed the invisibility spell making him rise.
"But I..." He spoke and I walked up to him pushing him back onto the chair.
"Be seated you worked quite hard," I said as I stood in front of him and he looked up at me.
"Wh-Why are you still in this form?" He asked and I hummed.
"I wonder why I’m in this form too." I said as I touched my earstud and reverted to Ocean’s original form.
"Perfect?" I asked and he sighed with a small smile.
"I don’t know why but I knew you would come," he said making me smile as I walked over and took a seat on the couch in front of him.
"Why won’t I? You all were going to take a huge step that would mark a change in the course of the present situation so, I had to be there to see you all make history." I said making him sigh.
"But I did almost make a mistake..." He said, "I was about to reject the reward of His Majesty."
I tilted my head to one side as he spoke, "I thought having the sea routes exclusively for us might make the people believe that we did it all only for our sales and not for the Kingdom and the Golden Serpent would also make the people believe it so..."
I smiled, "I understand, Your Highness. You only did that because you felt that was right and I would have let you do it if it weren’t a bit erroneous decision."
Eric hung his head and I smiled, "Don’t be so worried, Your Highness. I was there, right?"
"But you might not be for all the time." He said and I sighed using my telekinesis to pick the bottle of wine in his room to pour him a glass.
"Here, drink a bit and relax." I said as I pushed the glass close to him.
He looked at the glass and then at me.
"You’re giving me wine?"
"I heard it helps humans relax." I smiled making him sigh and pick the glass downing it in one go.
"Take it easy, Your Highness if you were so agitated on such a minor mistake then you would have more trouble while taking larger decisions in future when you would be alone."
His eyes found mine again and there was an obvious panic in them.
I chuckled as I poured another drink for him and said, "Don’t be so worried, I have watched you grow into what you have become today, just because you were being cautious wouldn’t make me lose my faith in you."
Eric sighed again as he picked up the glass and swirling the red fluid in it before taking a sip looking more relaxed.
"I want to push hard when you say this, Master... I don’t want to disappoint you."
"You won’t, Your Highness. I trust you," I said and he picked up the bottle and pressed it to his lips making my eyebrows jump.
"Hey, don’t drink it so hastily or you’ll-"
He put the bottle down with a bang, it was fortunate that he didn’t break the bottle, it was nearly half gone in just one go and I could see the redness growing over Eric’s cheeks.
"I still want to make as less mistakes as I could, Master. I don’t want to bring shame to you..." He spoke in slurred words.
I smiled leaning ahead placing my elbow over my thigh putting my chin in my palm as I watched him look like his child form not physically but it still reminded me of when he was young and inexperienced.
"I’m sure you won’t."
Eric looked at me his eyes swirling with emotions before he downed the rest of the bottle and then stood up swaying back and forth making me watching with amusement as he staggered over to me.
I watched as he fell near my feet and then hugged my legs placing his head over my knees.
"I didn’t even dream that I would come so far, Master... I didn’t even think my mother would be alive and healthy and happy... It’s all because of you... You gave us hope... strength... trusted me... And also came all the way here for me... I... I don’t know if anyone... has done so much for me... M-My so... so-called father... had no interest in me... But you... went all the way... taking responsibility and... caring so much for us... I can-can’t thank you enough."
I placed my hand over his head brushing his golden blonde hair. He was completely drunk now so maybe he won’t remember what he was saying. He would die of embarrassment if he remembered.
"I already understand your feelings, Your Highness."
"Eric!" He snapped and I frowned a bit.
"Call me by my name, Master..." He said making me sigh.
"All right, Eric." He grinned.
"You... are like my parent... Master..." He said and I smiled, "Not only for me... but for everyone at O...Oasis... If not for you... We all would be... or... orphans..."
I patted his head, it was strange having a guy of around twenty cling to my legs calling me their parent. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
"You... always say that you... are not God... But you are... You are God... for all of us..."
I sighed and brushed my fingers over his soft locks, he was the same age as my brother and I mostly saw him as the pawn on my chess board but I guess he had more layers than that chess piece who couldn’t do much.
"You seem like you’ve drank a bit too much, Your Highness. You should go and rest. There’s a big day tomorrow." I said and he shook his head.
I almost chuckled, "I won’t let go... until you answer me..."
"What?" I asked and he looked up at me.
The innocence of his childhood self reflected in his scarlet eyes and his face red because of intoxication.
"Why me?" He asked making me frown.
"What do you mean?"
"I know..." He said as he lowered his eyes, "I know that you... you already answered this question when I was young... You said... you wanted a King... who could understand the people... and his endeavours should reach the... grassroot levels... But... I’m sure... you could... have other options... So... Why?"
I sighed, he had always had this one thing which was the root of his inferiority complex. He was under the impression that he wasn’t capable of becoming a King if not for me choosing him. And to a great extent that was true but I wouldn’t have chosen him if he weren’t capable enough in my eyes.
"It’s because I see in your something that you fail to see, Eric." I answered and he looked at me.
His eyes were still the same with the sleep seeming to tug at his eyelids.
"What?" He slurred.
"You are the perfect disciple for me, Eric. You haven’t till now let go of any of my teachings and you only keep evolving into better and better proving it that I made the right choice."
"But I... I’m still..."
"Eric, look at me," I spoke making him look up at me.
"You might think that you are incapable of doing my bidding but you are forgetting something." I said making him tilt his head.
"I am here to pave a path for you, I am here to provide you with the strength you need to move forward, I am here to stand as your shield and sword. I am here to make sure you win so, you don’t have to fear. You don’t have to feel inadequate because I have chosen you for a reason. As I have answered you earlier that I want a King that wouldn’t trample over the people but be someone who would understand his people and his people would also come to love him. I see those qualities in your that’s why I chose you."
It seemed like he was having a hard time processing what I was saying in his intoxicated state so, I simply sighed and patted his head.
"Don’t worry, Eric. Leave everything to me... All you have to do is hold on to your faith and walk the path. Everything else shall bend to your will." I said before I watched his eyelids slide close and he fell asleep.
I patted his head a bit watching as the insecure boy who opened his heart to me now slept like a baby, completely vulnerable in my presence. His faith in me was the only thing that would give him strength and I would take care of it until he is strong enough to step out of my shadow and realise his own power. I knew it would take a bit time but I was sure he would soon step into his power and pick his weapons to face the battle that he would soon have to fight.
I used telekinesis to put him on his bed and left his room walking over to my brother as we now had a lot to talk about.
[Defender of Divine Glory says the title of King might be insufficient for your candidate.]
"I know, that’s why I’m not planning him to make the King."
[Goddess of Wisdom is shocked.]
[Giver of Gifts asks what you mean.]
"You’ll know with time. I have a better title for our young man." I announced.
