Back to the present, Dargena City.

Evelyn entered a hospital ground that seemed to be busier than she anticipated.

Staff of the hospital could be seen running around—and there were several leather tents, on the outside of the hospital with patients queuing to enter those tents. From the opened door of the hospital, it seemed the inside was empty.

It confuses her as to why the healers and staff were treating patients outside of the hospital.

Having the same question, Linthia asked a passing staff, "What's going on?"

"Eh...? Lady Linthia!" the staff was about to get Linthia's hand off of her but stopped abruptly when she realized who it was. "It's getting worse, the corruption from the Chaos energy, was spreading faster than we anticipated so we decided to relocate the hospital's operation"

Upon hearing this, Linthia's expression paled.

But that change of expression didn't escape Evelyn's gaze, she was attuned to notice it.

As the staff said that, she realized that Evelyn was right behind Linthia.

Shocked, not expecting the Empress to be here, the staff quickly bowed down in respect.

"Forgive me for not realizing you sooner, Your Majesty," She apologized.

Evelyn waved her hand—knowing that it was the place was busy so she didn't mind the staff not noticing her sooner, "If you are not in a hurry, bring me to the source of the corruption. I'll see it if I can do anything to it,"

Instead of complying, the staff hesitated, "I'll call the hospital head to guide Your Majesty,"

Not wanting to be the one to deal with this, the staff swiftly excused herself.

"I didn't know anything about any Chaos corruption," While waiting, Evelyn decided to open a conversation, trying to pry more about this situation—as it seemed Linthia knew more. "Did it happen recently?"

Upon hearing this, Linthia bit her lower lip in hesitation.

She was not ready to tell the Silverstar Pack about the missing team she sent on retrieval.

If possible, she wanted to deal with the matters herself.

However, having already resolved to seek, Evelyn's aid—she no longer felt the need to keep this a secret. "Yes," she nodded. Noticing the hospital head approaching, she added, "I'll tell you everything as we walk, Your Majesty."

Just like that, Linthia confessed everything that led to this situation.

She confessed about the team she sent and the fact that they were now completely missing.

Of course, she deliberately didn't say why she decided to take this initiative.

A moment later, the hospital head who was wearing a protective cloak made of Red Prudian arrived in front of a door with Evelyn and Linthia right behind him. But seeing the door, both were confused as it was the hospital head's office instead of a patient room.

"Bring us to the Orc, we're here to see him," Linthia said, her tone tinged with confusion.

But the hospital head sighed, "It's too dangerous, I can't let Her Majesty get too close to it,"

"Do as Linthia said, that's a direct order," Evelyn intervened demandingly.

It surprised Evelyn to see that the hospital head was going against Linthia's order—thus she decided to be the one to order him, to bring them to the Orc. Shockingly—the hospital head, stood his ground and shook his head.

Even in the face of a direct order from the Empress, he still dares to refuse.

"Are you out of your mind?" Linthia asked, her aura beginning to climb. "Show some respect"

Upon seeing that the situation might escalate as even Evelyn had her expression turned a bit sour, the hospital head explained, "Many of the staff were corrupted from being near the Orc—their energy was corrupted and they became sick. I don't want to let Her Majesty fall ill like them, at least not until there's permission from His Majesty"

"I will take responsibility if anything happens, you don't need to worry," Evelyn replied.

She now understands the gravity of this situation.

Considering that her reputation among the people is high—there should be a strong reason for someone like the hospital head, to refuse a direct order from her. He was simply worried that he would take the blame if Evelyn got corrupted.

But Evelyn's assumption was wrong, and the hospital head, refuted that in the next second.

"It's not about responsibility, I simply do not want Your Majesty to get hurt," He refuted.

He wouldn't budge, not until the Emperor himself gave the permission.

Stuck in this situation, Evelyn glanced at Linthia who seemed to be very troubled, 'Linthia did not want Rex to know about this. She was afraid that he would blame her as she was the one who organized the team, which was frankly the wrong way of thinking'

'I could tell reprimand her, but let's not do it that way,' Evelyn shook her head.

Even though Linthia should have reported to Rex if anything of this caliber was happening inside the city, Evelyn could see clearly that she was extremely afraid. Something must've happened to make her act like this.

One could see that Linthia might get a panic attack if Rex knew about this.

And if that happened, it would not look good for the Captains.

Just when Evelyn decided to use a threat to budge the hospital head, the hospital shook.

Rumble! frёewebnoѵēl.com

All three of them were shocked and frozen still when this happened, and almost instantly, the hospital head rushed through the hallway in a hurry. Both Evelyn, and Linthia followed behind him, knowing that something bad happened.

Both followed the hospital head as he went into a room at the edge of the first floor.

Entering that room, there was a hatch that led underground.

Jumping down into the hatch—the two were greeted by a pale white hallway that seemed to be recently built, as there were parts that were still unfinished, 'A lot of runes were engraved here, from the Elves I assume...' Evelyn mused as she scanned her eyes around.

Reaching the door at the end of the hallway, she was greeted by another energy barrier.

It was mostly used to contain the energy within from leaking out.

However, even then, Evelyn could feel this chilling energy that brushed against her skin.

"HRAARGGHK!!"

Suddenly, a loud scream of agony echoed inside this hallway.

Brak!

Opening the door in a hurry, Evelyn and Linthia were surprised to see the hallway beyond the door was dyed with blood. A couple of Awakened could be seen lying on the ground—in their own pool of blood.

However, what caught Evelyn's attention the most was something else.

Across the hallway, she could see four dark spots that were hovering like an eerie entity.

It seemed like they were alive, but upon closer inspection, they were something else.

"Judging from the way they looked—they looked very similar to the dimensional cracks that happened when two powerful entities collided. But who could possibly make something like this here?" Evelyn mused, her brows furrowed in confusion.

Creating these dimensional cracks is not a simple thing, it was very hard to do.

Back in the World Awakening, several ninth-rank realm entities were needed to create this.

Evelyn could not imagine what kind of power could create dimensional cracks in the Second Breath, where everything reached a new height, even an inanimate object. Regardless—she was quite sure that these were dimensional cracks.

On the other hand, Linthia ran to the Awakened who was still breathing.

He was seated against the wall with blood drizzling out of him.

"Hey, what happened?" She asked, lifting his head to check on him.

But as she did that she was surprised by the sight of the Awakened's guts being spilled over to his lap from his stomach that was ripped open—and he seemed to be in his dying breaths due to the deadly wounds he suffered.

Something must've attacked him for him to be in this state.

Despite his condition, the Awakened had his eyes slightly widened seeing Evelyn.

Fighting against death's grip, he stood up and walked stumblingly towards the Empress.

He only made it two steps before falling to his knees again.

"Your Majesty..." Panting heavily, he lifted his gaze to meet Evelyn's eyes. "Please, it—it's not safe for you to be here. Le—Leave this place. Come, I'll lead you out of her-" Before he could finish his sentence, he collapsed forward.

Linthia checked his pulse and found that he had already succumbed to his wounds.

Exchanging a look, both of them then glanced ahead.

Both could see that the bloody mess became more intense the closer it was to the last door at the end of the hallway, on the right. Whatever attacked the Awakened should be in there, even the sound of muffled fighting could be heard faintly.

Activating their powers that summoned their auras, the two headed to the door.

Inside was another hallway, and there were more bodies and blood littered around.

At the end of this hallway was an opened door, and there were glimpses of the hospital head and also some other Awakened, fighting a black silhouette the same size as them. In a hurry, Evelyn and Linthia darted into that room.

Just as the two entered the room, they witnessed the fight scene clearly and the monster.

Pinning an Awakened—who was in her gladiator form—turning her entire body into enhanced stone was a creature from the abyssal depth. It stood as tall as an adult Human but had eight limbs instead of four.

Two arms and legs were bigger and more monstrous than the other limbs.

Moreover, it has four tails that it uses as weapons, grabbing and swatting the Awakened.

"Where in the hell did that thing come from?!"

"It came from the cracks! It suddenly appeared and killed three of us in an instant!"

"Let's lock it up here, we don't need to kill it right now!"

Realizing that this creature was stronger than even an eighth-rank realm Awakened, Linthia dashed into the fight—grabbing the creature on its shoulder—and yanking it away from the Awakened with brute force.

As the creature was tossed to the other side of the room, Evelyn sneaked in a punch at it.

Her fist was enhanced with the Beauty of Hell art, enveloping it in flames.

Bam!

Evelyn could feel something cracked when her punch connected.

Just then, however, when Evelyn looked down to see the result of her punch—the creature already stood up and in a twisting and gnarly way dashed with eight of its limbs to another Awakened to its right, and grabbed him by the head.

It moved very fast and in the next second, it got its hands inside the Awakened's mouth.

Splash!

Brutally, the creature split the Awakened from his mouth, splitting him into two pieces.

Not even the Awakened himself could react to this attack.

Almost instantly—the last Awakened and also the hospital head stood in front of Evelyn with the intention of protecting her at all costs. Even Linthia did the same, she already summoned a copy of her soul behind her, acting as a second body like an Awakened's spirit.

"Your Majesty, I told you not to come here!" the hospital head said, his tone quite high.

Linthia quickly refuted, "Stop addressing Her Majesty with that tone!"

"Instead of doing that, why don't you tell us what in the world happened here?!" She added.

Now that they could breathe a bit—with the creature devouring the Awaekend, bit by bit with its arms, Linthia could see that at the center of the room was an operation table, and lying on it was the Orc.

He was still unconscious, in a comatose state, and he didn't seem to be hurt either.

"We don't know exactly—but that thing came out of that dark spot on the corner there," the Awakened explained—pointing at the dimensional crack, in the ceiling. "I heard a shattering sound before that thing came out and attacked everyone!"

Upon hearing this, Evelyn's frown deepened as this situation was abnormal.

Just then, the creature finished devouring the entire Awakened's body and turned around.

It moved eerily towards the center of the room, and climbed the operation table, with the Orc right beneath it. As it did that its face was exposed which somehow resembled a person who was wearing a white mask.

Also, it didn't avert its eyes away from Evelyn and the others.

One thing was for sure, this creature still wanted more blood as its killing intent was choking.

Roar!!
