The Informal Tomb Raiding Diary: She is the occupant of the tomb!-Chapter 323 - 274: The All-Around Employee (Part 3)
Actually, the preventative measures Inosi took against Bai Yun weren’t just the injection of Black Iron; she also implanted a magnet in Bai Yun’s ’energy core’, that is, the heart of our people, but this magnet had a protective layer.
If the protective layer melts, the Black Iron would rush towards Bai Yun’s heart, causing the most severe heart attack—one that can’t be survived without a heart transplant.
And our people have no such thing as heart transplants; each energy core is unique, incompatible with others.
So once the energy core fails, the person naturally ends up dead.
Preventing the reaction between Black Iron and the magnet is only the first step; to completely break free from Inosi’s control, she needs to undergo surgery, which she can’t do herself, nor can she easily find someone to do it, as it involves both her tribe and personal survival.
On reaching the ground, Baozi received several messages from Wen Jing, saying he led the female white-collar worker to Lu City, hid the truck, took a train north, heading to the Capital.
He figured the female white-collar worker would be sending people to look for the truck and to capture him for questioning, but on the train, the worker’s people wouldn’t dare act. He intentionally took a slow train to prolong the time.
Unexpectedly, Wen Jing’s brain still performed well at critical moments, while we took the RV we arrived in to the nearest hospital, arranging for Shunfeng and Xiangyang to be admitted.
Baozi reported their safety to the captain and asked about Chen Qinghan. The captain said Chen Qinghan was in a special zone, so the phone signal was interfered with, and headquarters couldn’t contact him either.
Chen Qinghan, his temporary partner, and all the personnel involved in their operation also lost contact.
This is common and doesn’t count as an emergency. We stayed at a hotel near the hospital; I used Shunfeng’s phone to inform his family of their safety, also sending a street shot, making it seem like he was on vacation.
The doctor said they were not in life-threatening danger; after some time, they’d recover. Informing his family now would just make them worry.
We stayed in the county for five days, and once Shunfeng and Xiangyang recovered a bit, I transferred them to a hospital in a big city. Staying there too long, I always worried that if the female white-collar realized she’d been tricked, she’d come looking for us.
This ’summer camp’ was nothing like I had anticipated, though at least a few of us...—after all, none of our members were lost.
Baozi said she accidentally found a hidden compartment in the box, and something fell out, which she picked up and pocketed.
When she took it out to show me, I was overwhelmed with mixed emotions. Zhaosi was testing me by not giving me her part of the key, but in the end, Baozi found it.
Once Shunfeng and Xiangyang were discharged, I saw Shunfeng off at the airport, and Wen Jing smoothly returned home; the people tailing him had been withdrawn.
The female white-collar must have found the truck and realized there was no wooden coffin, as Wen Jing had commissioned paper coffins made at a paper product shop. Once she found the truck, she knew she’d been fooled; her target was the coffin, without which it wasn’t worth spending any more time on Wen Jing.
The remaining people returned to the Capital with me; Baozi went back to her foster family, and I took Xiangyang, Bai Yun, and her Tool Man to my place.
The plan to open the shop was underway, fortunately, the storefront outside the community hadn’t been rented out yet.
Over the next week, Xiangyang adapted to the new environment, I handled the store rental and inventory, and Bai Yun’s Tool Man performed the surgery for her.
These Tool Men are somewhat like living AI robots, the only flaw being their limited memory. If you input data related to surgery, you can’t input other content. To input new data, you need to wipe the previous data.
Previously, she hadn’t had the chance to do these things without Inosi knowing. Now she can finally eliminate the hidden threat.
This operation was quite complex, but Bai Yun was used to it; she knew how to manage. All the surgical tools were bought online. They set up an isolated room in the living room. Fortunately, apartment privacy is relatively good nowadays, and no curious neighbors noticed our packages, otherwise, they’d likely think I was conducting illegal medical practices or human experiments, if not running a body part smuggling racket.
Perhaps Bai Yun received too much saline; to our surprise, it completely dissolved the Black Iron, eventually making it disappear. This was certainly an unexpected delight.
While waiting for the business license, Bai Yun found temporary work, taking her Tool Man to perform as a costumed actor.
From surgery to puppet performances, their team was unbelievably versatile.
