The Informal Tomb Raiding Diary: She is the occupant of the tomb!-Chapter 272 - 257: She’s a Martian (Part 3)
"Exactly, I almost peed myself, thought it was a female ghost from the tomb, too scary, hahaha."
"Boss, do you think we’re silly? We’ve been wandering in the woods for two days now, with the sun shining bright during the day. If that girl were a ghost, she’d vanish as soon as the sun came out, yet here we are, still afraid."
"No kidding, we’re like a couple of fools."
Once the two of them relaxed, the atmosphere changed; they spoke without lowering their voices, and their eyes no longer darted around. Their conversation shifted from the secrets of making crispy sweet and sour pork to the skills of wielding a sledgehammer.
Liu Laonian asked Qinghan what he did for a living. Qinghan said he was an adventure enthusiast who enjoyed survival in the wild. Liu Laonian then earnestly advised, "Don’t seek survival any longer. Look what you’ve done to your partner. If you must go out, keep an eye on her. Nowadays, young girls love to eat anything and even give themselves the codename ’foodie.’ You never know when she might have an upset stomach from all that junk."
Wang Datou and Liu Laonian were both around forty and couldn’t quite accept the current trends among the youngsters. Qinghan chuckled and nodded, saying he would definitely be stricter and control the ’diet’ from now on.
They shouldn’t think I didn’t catch the hint in their conversation, emphasizing the word diet. Weren’t they just implying that I shouldn’t absorb other forms of energy in the future!
This time, when Galaxy approached me to absorb negative energy, I refused. After spending thousands of years in prison, haven’t I seen the truth yet?
Everything comes with a cost. The Karmic Fire is invincible, but overuse can be deadly. Even if I could be resurrected afterward, the lost time can never be reclaimed. The Green Light is convenient but affects aesthetics; whether it’s Shirish or the Green Giant, I have no interest in cosplaying them.
Hence, absorbing negative energy is something I absolutely must avoid. Who knows what the consequences might be? What if I can’t handle it?
Speaking of work, Dong Sanqi mentioned that he just inherited his family’s shop. They run a jade shop, and he told Qinghan to drop by and support his business when he had time. To his lifesaver, he promised not only a lifelong 70% discount but also buy one, get one free, and the free one is exactly the same.
Qinghan laughed and said, "Won’t you suffer losses then?"
Dong Sanqi nonchalantly waved his hand and said, "I’m not bragging, but I’m destined to make a living from this. Take stone gambling, for instance. Nine out of ten bets I win."
In other words, he wasn’t short on money, nor was he lacking opportunities.
Wang Datou’s eyes lit up upon hearing that, and he sidled up to Dong Sanqi with a grin, pleading with him to take him along and make a fortune together. Mr. Dong giving him even a sip of soup would be better than him slaving away in the smoky kitchen frying dishes all day.
Wang Datou was a cook, drifting between small eateries, earning a monthly salary of three to five thousand. If a restaurant went out of business, he’d take on short-term jobs first.
Mr. Dong raised an eyebrow and asked, "Do you have the capital?"
Even though gambling on stones could make one rich overnight, it still required capital, at least a few tens of thousands of dollars.
"I do. There’s the money meant for my child’s future college education, which I can borrow for now."
"And me, Mr. Dong, take me too. My mom’s getting on in years, and all sorts of illnesses are cropping up. She needs to go to the hospital frequently, and money is needed everywhere. If Mr. Dong could spare me some soup, I’d work like an ox or a horse to repay you."
Though Dong Sanqi was young, he wasn’t a fool. He rolled his eyes, his expression becoming serious. "You guys just robbed me of my stuff, and now you want me to take you to make money? Do you think I’m an idiot?"
Wang Datou hastily swore that if he ever did anything against Dong Sanqi again, may his entire family meet a terrible fate.
It was clear he cared about his family; the oath was quite harsh, showing his desperation.
Liu Laonian also joined in, swearing earnestly. Their eagerness for wealth was infectious, even affecting me a bit. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
I have some money saved with Qinghan, so I guess it could serve as capital too...
Dong Sanqi’s goal wasn’t to listen to their oaths; I guessed he wanted to keep the two who knew his family’s secret close by where he could watch them.
Sure enough, he was just putting on a show and, upon seeing the longing looks in Wang Datou’s and Liu Laonian’s eyes, he furrowed his brows and reluctantly nodded, saying he could take them along the next time he went gambling on stones.
The two instantly beamed with joy. Liu Laonian’s head was practically floating with happiness, as if rainbows were bouncing off him for free.
The end of the forest finally came into view, and we returned to where Qinghan parked. Liu Laonian said Qinghan was also his lifesaver, promising to repay him generously once he made it big.
Wang Datou also patted his chest, saying that getting out of the ancient tomb safely was all thanks to Qinghan guiding him. In the future, if Qinghan ever needed anything from him, he should just ask.
