Chapter 637: Chapter 599: Met

After talking with Huang Qi, Gu Yanjing went to the dubbing studio to find Qiao Yuxian.

Shang Chen was driving in the front, sitting upright in the driver’s seat, gripping the steering wheel tightly, with veins bulging on his hands.

He stared ahead, lips tightly sealed, not saying a word.

Gu Yanjing sat in the back, eyes closed in silence for half the journey, then suddenly opened his eyes and took out his phone to make a call.

The first time he called, the other party hung up.

Gu Yanjing called again.

It was hung up again.

Gu Yanjing kept calling.

This time, the call was quickly connected, and a gruff, irritated voice came through: "Who is it? Keeps calling! Keeps calling!"

Huo Yanxin’s shout directly burst from the phone.

"It’s me, Gu Yanjing," Gu Yanjing said in a low voice.

Huo Yanxin paused, then spoke with much more clarity and loudness, "What happened to that girl?!"

If Qiao Yuxian was fine, Gu Yanjing wouldn’t be calling her.

They didn’t even exchange contact info.

Besides, something was obviously off with Gu Yanjing’s voice.

"She’s been poisoned," Gu Yanjing said.

"What?!" Huo Yanxin’s voice rose even more, pausing for another moment before asking directly, "The same poison as Grandpa Qiao?"

Gu Yanjing’s eyelashes trembled slightly, and he replied, "Not yet determined, but the symptoms are the same so far."

"What’s going on? How is this possible?" Huo Yanxin said incredulously, "She was so careful with everything she ate, how could... how is she now?"

"The symptoms have appeared; it’s been over a week now with no progress," Gu Yanjing said.

"How is she doing? Is she okay? How’s her condition?" Huo Yanxin didn’t give Gu Yanjing time to answer before quickly continuing, "No, no. Solve the problem first, solve it. There must be a way to fix it, there must be. Who poisoned her? Do you suspect anyone? Is it related to me?"

While worrying about Qiao Yuxian, Huo Yanxin forced herself to calm down and make her brain work at high speed.

She couldn’t panic.

The poison is slow before symptoms appear, but once they do, it could suddenly become deadly at any time.

She needed to solve the problem quickly; there was no time for fear or worry, not a moment to lose.

"Yes," Gu Yanjing said, "I suspect Shi Tan."

Huo Yanxin was stunned for a moment, then immediately said, "I’m returning to the country right now, I’ll go ask."

"Okay."

"Gu Yanjing, Grandpa Qiao died from this poison," Huo Yanxin said quickly, "That girl knows the most about this poison. This has hurt her deeply inside, so I entrust her to you."

"I know," Gu Yanjing said, his eyes downcast.

"Alright. I’m coming back immediately," Huo Yanxin said.

After hanging up, Gu Yanjing called Tang He and asked him to quickly investigate the incident on Yao Mountain Island and Sheng Chendong’s father’s case.

He also sent a large group to the A Continent to find people.

Once everything was arranged, he looked out the window and stopped making any sound.

Upon arriving at the dubbing studio, Gu Yanjing got out of the car first, while Shang Chen went to find a parking space.

It wasn’t his first time here, so the receptionist helped swipe the card, and he smoothly entered.

Qiao Yuxian was in the office signing a contract.

After Shi Tan’s absence, these tasks fell to her.

When Gu Yanjing knocked on the door, Qiao Yuxian was signing so much that she barely recognized her own name.

The door was knocked on three times and pushed open; Qiao Yuxian looked up towards the doorway.

She thought it was someone from the studio looking for her.

But when she looked up and saw it was Gu Yanjing, she was stunned.

Gu Yanjing’s eyes were fixed on her as he directly walked into the office.

It wasn’t until he reached Qiao Yuxian’s side that she blinked and looked up at him, muttering, "Isn’t it daytime? Am I dreaming?"

Gu Yanjing’s eyes were very red, tracing the contours of her brows and eyes inch by inch. His lips moved slightly, but no sound came out; he simply raised his hand to touch her face.

Looking into his eyes, Qiao Yuxian raised a hand to hold his. She could tell by his demeanor that he knew everything, but she just smiled and said, "Why did you come back all of a sudden? Didn’t even give me a heads-up. I wanted to finish these up and go find you tomorrow. We almost ended up long-distance again."

Gu Yanjing bent down and kissed her lips, pressing his lips against hers and not moving away for a while.

After some time, he squatted down, hugged Qiao Yuxian tightly, and whispered, "I missed you so much."

Feeling his body heat, Qiao Yuxian blinked her teary eyes, then buried her face in his shoulder, taking a deep breath and suddenly feeling all her tension melt away.

"I missed you too," Qiao Yuxian murmured softly.

Gu Yanjing’s hand was on her back, noticing how much she had lost weight in the past week: "If you missed me, why didn’t you let me come back?"

"I was planning to see you tomorrow," Qiao Yuxian said.

Gu Yanjing tightened his hold on her again, saying no more, just holding her.

Qiao Yuxian didn’t say anything either, just keeping her face on his shoulder. In just over a week, she felt she hadn’t felt this relaxed in ages.

The two quietly embraced for a while before Gu Yanjing hoarsely asked, "Shall we go home?"

"Yes," Qiao Yuxian said softly, "Let’s go home."

"Okay."

No need to go to the M Continent tomorrow; work didn’t need urgent handling. Taking the contract home to sign was just the same.

Once everything was packed, Gu Yanjing held the documents in one hand and Qiao Yuxian’s hand with the other.

Together they left the studio.

As soon as they stepped out, Qiao Yuxian spotted Shang Chen squatting by the flowerbed.

Such a big guy, bowing his head by the flowerbed like a child who had been bullied.

Qiao Yuxian paused in her steps.

She glanced at Gu Yanjing, who also lowered his gaze to look at her.

They exchanged glances, and Qiao Yuxian suddenly gave a mischievous smile.

Even with his unsightly complexion and red eyes, Gu Yanjing smiled along when he saw Qiao Yuxian’s grin.

Qiao Yuxian let go of his hand and jogged over to where Shang Chen was.

Hearing the footsteps, Shang Chen looked up at her suddenly.

Qiao Yuxian noticed his eyes were red too, and though she didn’t show it on the surface, she felt a pang in her heart.

She leisurely walked to his left, inspecting him closely. Shang Chen’s eyes followed her.

Qiao Yuxian then slowly moved to his right to examine him again, and Shang Chen’s eyes remained glued to her.

Finally, she stood in front of him, rubbing her chin, and teased him, "Hey there, what brings you here? Got bullied? Lost a fight? Here to report it? Oh dear, such an aggrieved little look. Almost matches Zhi Ang’s."

Shang Chen gazed at her.

Qiao Yuxian circled him halfway, continuing to jest, "Come on, tell me, who bullied you? Big sis will avenge you. Whatever you can’t handle, big sis can."

That hit a nerve.

Shang Chen stared at her for a moment, then abruptly stood up and silently headed to drive.
