The Husband I Snatched Is Not Right!-Chapter 173: No Mistaken Identity
Washing her face with cold water, Yu Tingwan felt much more awake.
There was no luggage to take along.
Wei Zhao said everything was available there.
Perhaps anticipating her accompanying him, even clothes for a girl were prepared.
It’s uncertain when the arrangements were made.
Yu Tingwan waited for the meal, having nothing to do, she stepped out of the alley and saw vendors selling vegetables on both sides of the street.
She looked around with a clear purpose.
Lady Zhao had mentioned that the meat buns sold at the morning shop on the street were full of filling, and the soy milk was thick and flavorful. Whenever they couldn’t make breakfast in time, her family would eat there.
The only issue was the long line, as they were very popular.
Yu Tingwan wanted to buy some soy milk to go with soup dumplings and fried dumplings.
She found the stall.
There were indeed many people, but the couple selling breakfast moved fast, and the line advanced quickly.
The girl queued obediently, listening to the women with baskets chatting ahead of her.
"Right after the city gates opened today, the post station sent soldiers to capture people again. They arrest people daily; isn’t the prison getting overcrowded?"
"Not really, as many are executed daily at the punishment ground, freeing up space in jail for new inmates."
"Who did they catch today?"
"I know."
Someone looked around cautiously, covering their mouth but speaking in a not-so-soft voice: "It’s the Village Chief from Sandun Village."
"The whole family was brought in."
"What crime did they commit?"
The person paused momentarily.
"It seems they forcibly took a commoner. Brazenly snatched him from another’s house, carrying him all the way home to be the father of her daughter’s illegitimate child of unknown origin."
Yu Tingwan listened intently.
The buns could be wrapped in paper, but the soy milk was hard to carry, so she brought a teapot.
Once it was filled, she paid and carried it back.
The girl’s steps were light.
Until... she just turned into the alley and saw the Liu Family’s door open. Liu Yan leaned against the doorway, directly blocking her path upon seeing her.
She had been away for several days, so Liu Yan must have found out the trick regarding Wang Hao from what Yu Tingwan mentioned earlier. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
The issue was probably resolved.
Yu Tingwan furrowed her brows.
She thought Liu Yan would ask how she knew so much.
Then she’d have to find an excuse.
But Liu Yan did not ask.
Liu Yan: "Is there a ghost haunting our alley?"
The hard-working Yu Tingwan, searching for an excuse: ??
What on earth?
She looked at Liu Yan: "Why do you ask that?"
"Did you encounter something unclean?"
Yu Tingwan furrowed her brows.
Her tone was unpleasant.
"Making such a big fuss, don’t tell me you mean me."
Liu Yan: ???
"Don’t blame me! I’m telling the truth!"
"I need to marry off early. If something happens at night, there will be a man to support me."
Seeing that she wasn’t joking, looking flustered and somewhat haggard, Yu Tingwan softened her attitude.
The girl was overthinking.
In her past life, Liu Yan wasn’t that clever, so there’s no way she could have cursed so cleverly.
Hmm.
This is utterly her style.
Yu Tingwan inquired, "What happened?"
"Last night, I woke up thirsty, intending to go to the kitchen for water. As I opened the door, I saw a giant creature outside!"
"It was too dark, and I couldn’t see what it was."
"But its eyes were extraordinarily bright, seemingly glowing!"
Yu Tingwan: ...
Apologies.
She knew what it was.
Hu Dongxi found it inconvenient to go out during the day and wandered out at night due to restlessness.
Talking about it, Liu Yan still seemed a bit shaken!
She couldn’t help but shiver.
"I was so scared I screamed but couldn’t make a sound and quickly shut the door, but too hastily, I tripped."
Finally managing to close the door, her heart pounded terrifyingly fast.
Some things cause overthinking without a clear answer.
Thinking made her even more fearful.
"In the end, I couldn’t resist opening a crack and peeking outside."
Yu Tingwan: "What did you see?"
"It was gone."
Liu Yan: "I thought I had seen it wrong, scaring myself. I sighed in relief."
With such a commotion, she didn’t want the water anymore.
But!!!
Liu Yan: "You wouldn’t believe it; today, when I stepped out, I saw words written outside the door!"
The words seemed to be formed by some scattered sand!
Somewhat crooked.
But still barely recognizable!
Yu Tingwan pursed her lips: "What words?"
Liu Yan: "...Coward."
Yu Tingwan: ...
Sorry for not controlling Hu Dongxi.
She should have restrained herself.
But the girl couldn’t hold back and laughed out loud.
When she returned to the Wei Family, she saw Zhao Yong feeding the cows, preparing for departure.
After delivering the soy milk to the kitchen, Yu Tingwan poured herself a bowl and sipped it in the courtyard.
A bit worried.
She still hadn’t figured out how to tell her parents that she’d be gone for a while.
Her gaze shifted, falling on Zhao Yu at the stone table, engrossed in a book given by Mr. Zhao.
Yu Tingwan didn’t want to disturb him.
But...
Something crossed Yu Tingwan’s mind, and she gulped down the soy milk, put down the bowl, and walked over to sit across from him.
Yu Tingwan: "I heard from Auntie that you aren’t planning to settle down soon?"
"...Hmm."
Zhao Yu looked a bit shy: "I’ve got a shadow."
Recalling that young woman staring at him as if wanting to strip off his pants, disdain grew in Zhao Yu’s mind.
The few days at the Village Chief’s house in Sandun Village were unbearable.
Even the young woman’s mother watched him with a meat-evaluating gaze, feeling pleased enough to touch his face!!!
["Not only does the young woman like you, but I, as her mother, also find you pleasing."]
Yu Tingwan had heard from the Yu Family that on the way from the countryside, girls sizing up Zhao Yu made him uneasy.
"So go out less these days."
Stay safe.
Liu Yan is quite fierce.
If she fancies Zhao Yu, it would be a hassle. She might block him daily. This poor soul would be frightened into stuttering.
Zhao Yu didn’t ask for reasons.
"I’ll listen to you, Cousin-in-law."
————
Initially, she thought explaining to her parents before leaving would be tedious.
But that wasn’t the case.
Wei Zhao simply mentioned he needed to leave to treat an illness, and the Wei Family agreed.
They even prepared plenty of food for the journey.
Sitting in a carriage arranged by Shunzi, swaying out of Ze County, Yu Tingwan felt unreal.
The carriage was lavishly arranged.
Thick mats covered it, so the bumps wouldn’t strain her wounds.
Yu Tingwan fell asleep in the carriage.
When she awoke, they were still on the road. With nothing to do, she pulled out the peace charm around her neck, examining it closely.
Nothing seemed unusual.
"Stop looking."
Wei Zhao, reading a secret letter, said calmly: "It really is mine."
Without lifting his head, Wei Zhao spoke softly: "It was personally asked by Grandmother at a temple before she passed, requesting two. One for Uncle, one for Father."
When General Jing Yuan passed away, his was buried with him.
Duke Shun’s was left for him.
Yu Tingwan’s eyelids twitched heavily.
"So, did Mother make a mistake?"
Wei Zhao: "No."
Wei Zhao looked up, meeting her gaze.
"There are no real parents in the world who could mistake their own children."
