Chapter 163: Did He Think She Was Getting Ahead of Herself?

Tristan Sterling watched the woman’s retreating figure, then turned and got into his car.

Miles Sheldon first drove Rachel Royce to her company. Marcus Sheldon had prepared the documents and was waiting for her downstairs.

When Joanna Sutton saw her, she said with concern, "Rachel, you haven’t fully recovered yet. You should just rest at home today. Marcus and I will handle any urgent work."

Rachel replied, "I’m much better now. I’d be bored just lying around at home anyway. It’s fine for me to handle a little work."

Joanna sighed. "You’re just like President Jennings, can’t sit still for a moment. You two would make a perfect pair."

Rachel smiled and said, "Alright, I’ll head back then. Call me if anything comes up."

"Alright."

Miles took the documents and left with Rachel.

When they returned to the villa, Rachel got out of the car and said to Miles, "Put the documents in my study for now."

"Alright."

Rachel went to Thomas Sterling’s villa.

When she reached the living room, Thomas was just coming downstairs after a shower and a change of clothes. He wore a formal blue business suit, his features sharp and handsome. The boyish charm of his youth had given way to a mature, manly aura.

"Rachel, you’re back. Are you still feeling unwell anywhere?" Thomas asked, walking quickly toward her.

Rachel replied, "I’m much better now. Are you about to head out?"

"Have a seat first."

Thomas helped her to the sofa. "I have to meet a business partner this afternoon," he said as she sat down.

Rachel nodded lightly. "So, what’s the situation with my brother?"

"Raymond Reynolds went behind Peter’s back and signed a betting agreement worth a staggering eight billion. The target has to be met within two years."

Rachel had considered every possibility of Raymond being set up, but she had never imagined he would sign such a massive betting agreement.

Prodigy’s annual profit was currently stable at around two billion. To hit a ten-billion target in two years would require a four-fold increase in growth. This was basically pushing the company into a pit of fire.

"What’s the background of the company that signed this agreement with Raymond? Is it related to Suzanne Sullivan?" Rachel asked hurriedly.

Thomas replied, "The Merrill Group. They do indeed have a deep cooperative relationship with MK."

Rachel’s expression darkened.

"So how is my brother doing now?"

Thomas told her the truth. "He’s furious, of course. He never expected Raymond to be so impulsive."

Rachel said, "A little success went straight to his head, and he forgot where he came from."

Thomas continued, "Some people within Prodigy support Raymond. They think the company should seize this period of rapid technological development to expand. In any case, Raymond doesn’t seem to think he made a huge mistake by signing that betting agreement."

Rachel frowned.

"Basically, there are two paths now. Raymond was the one who signed the agreement. They can either go to court and kick him out, making him bear all the responsibility alone, or they can just accept the terms of the agreement."

Rachel’s voice was heavy. "No matter how dissatisfied my brother is with Raymond right now, he can’t possibly kick him out."

If Peter really did that, not only would the company suffer losses, but it would also cause internal turmoil. Peter’s own reputation would be tarnished.

She knew her brother. They had built the company together, after all. No matter how much he resented Raymond, Peter would never do that.

Thomas said, "Exactly. Even if he wants to kick Raymond out, he’ll have to wait until after the betting agreement is fulfilled."

So for now, their only option was to accept the agreement.

The atmosphere instantly grew heavy.

Thomas reminded her, "For now, don’t say anything about this to Miss Preston and the others. We shouldn’t make them worry."

"I know."

「Noon.」

Thomas had lunch at the Royce family home before driving off.

「Afternoon.」

While Rachel was at home working, she received a call from June Jennings. "Rachel, what’s the situation with Peter? Is he okay?"

She hadn’t wanted to disturb Peter directly.

Rachel said, "The situation isn’t great. He’s probably going to be very busy for a while."

June immediately tensed up. "What on earth happened?"

Rachel explained briefly, "His business partner went behind my brother’s back and signed a betting agreement."

June was shocked and angry. "What is wrong with that guy? How could he not discuss something as huge as a betting agreement with Peter? It’s not like he owns the company by himself!"

Rachel said, "The circumstances are a bit unusual. I trust my brother to handle it."

June let out a breath. "I trust Peter too. So, is he coming back tonight?"

Rachel replied, "He should be."

June said, "Then I’ll pick up Stella and bring her to the Royce family home later."

"Of course you can."

After all, June was welcome to stay whenever she wanted. Florence Preston always had someone keep her room clean and tidy.

"Is Melissa coming back to your place today?"

Rachel hummed in affirmation.

On the way to kindergarten that day, Melissa had said she wanted to stay with her tonight.

And nowadays, Tristan didn’t seem to have any objection to Melissa staying by her side.

"Then I’ll pick up Melissa too."

"Okay."

She hung up.

Around five o’clock, June arrived at the Royce family home with Melissa and Stella, bringing many health tonics with her.

Florence Preston said, "You haven’t even finished what you brought last time. Why did you bring so much more?"

The tonics June brought were all authentic and quite expensive.

June said, "Miss Preston, you should use this hundred-year-old ginseng to make soup tonight."

Florence Preston naturally understood her intentions. She took the ginseng and said with a smile, "Alright, alright. I’ll have to make sure Peter drinks a few extra bowls of soup tonight."

When Melissa saw Rachel come downstairs, she immediately ran and threw her arms around her, asking, "Did Aunt Evelynn take her medicine on time?"

Rachel hugged her and replied with a smile, "Of course I took my medicine on time."

Melissa’s question reminded Rachel that Tristan had paid for her medicine today, and she hadn’t transferred the money to him yet.

Stella asked with concern, "Godmother, are you sick?"

"I’m almost all better, so don’t you worry, Stella."

Having children in the house always made things especially lively.

During dinner, Peter came home.

June was the first to go and greet him. "Peter."

Peter looked visibly more haggard.

Peter’s voice was normal as he said, "You’re here."

Florence Preston walked over and looked at her son. "Is work that busy? Look, you have dark circles under your eyes."

Peter offered a small smile. "I’ll be fine if I just get to bed early tonight."

"Alright, let’s have dinner first!"

After dinner, June took the initiative to ask, "Peter, would you like to go out for a walk?"

Before Peter could answer, Florence Preston chimed in, "You should go for a walk after a meal."

Peter didn’t object, and the two of them went out for a walk.

Rachel stayed in the living room, helping Stella and Melissa with their homework.

She opened WeChat, intending to transfer the money for her medicine to Tristan. She unblocked his contact and sent the money using his phone number.

She soon received a reply from him: Next time, you can just transfer it directly. I’ll accept it.

Rachel’s face fell as she read his reply. ’What does that jerk mean? Does he think I’m getting ahead of myself?’
