Chapter 154: Melissa Hit Someone

The bodyguard watched the two of them leave but didn’t step forward to stop them.

He then turned and left.

Sitting in the luxury car, Jane Sullivan watched Rachel Royce’s retreating figure through the window, her expression complex.

June Jennings got into Rachel Royce’s car and asked, puzzled, "What ’madam’ was looking for you?"

Rachel Royce replied, "If I’m not mistaken, it’s probably Claire Ainsworth’s mother."

June Jennings frowned, suddenly annoyed. "What could she possibly want with you?"

Rachel Royce stepped on the gas, her eyes on the road ahead. "Who knows."

"Hmph. She’s probably looking to cause trouble for you again!"

"Who knows."

"..."

The bodyguard walked up to the car and addressed the person inside respectfully. "Ma’am."

Jane Sullivan retracted her gaze and said calmly, "Let’s go." 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Cedarwood Group.

Tristan Sterling’s handsome face darkened as he reviewed the information from the investigation.

Just then, his phone vibrated.

He picked up his phone, glanced at the caller ID, and answered, "Mrs. Sullivan."

「Twenty minutes later.」

Tristan Sterling arrived at the hotel restaurant.

When Jane Sullivan saw him, she said, "Tristan, have a seat."

Tristan Sterling sat down across from Jane Sullivan.

Jane Sullivan passed him a tablet. "Order whatever you’d like."

Tristan Sterling said, "No, thank you. I have a dinner engagement later, so I can’t join you today. Mrs. Sullivan, if you have something to say, please be direct."

Jane Sullivan handed the tablet to a nearby server.

The server took the tablet and departed.

Jane Sullivan lifted her teacup, took a sip, and then set it down. "I asked you here to talk about your wife."

Tristan Sterling didn’t respond.

He just listened as Jane Sullivan continued, "Did Suzanne ask you to look into her father and younger sister?"

Tristan Sterling retorted, "And you investigated it as well?"

Jane Sullivan had indeed ordered an investigation into the woman. ’My own daughter has been wronged so terribly; how could I possibly let that slide? I had to see just who this Evelynn person was.’

But the moment she saw Rachel Royce’s profile, she was utterly stunned. She couldn’t believe it.

’Rachel Royce!’

’A name that had become so distant and unfamiliar to her, yet seeing it again still sent a shiver through her.’

’Recalling the young woman’s face, the more she thought about it, the more unnerved she became.’

She had someone investigate the Royce Family’s current situation.

’Fate truly had a twisted sense of humor. It seemed the heavens were playing a cruel joke on her.’

’She wanted her daughter to marry Tristan Sterling, only to find out that his wife was also her daughter.’

From Tristan Sterling’s tone now, it was clear he already knew as well.

Jane Sullivan suddenly let out a laugh. Her gaze fixed on Tristan Sterling, she said, "Technically, Tristan, you really should be calling me ’Mother-in-law.’"

Tristan Sterling looked at Jane Sullivan, his handsome face placid and unreadable. He did not reply.

Jane Sullivan’s expression turned serious. "I hope you won’t mention this to Suzanne, Tristan. And you absolutely must not let Claire find out."

"Fortunately, she probably doesn’t know your wife’s name."

Indeed, Tristan Sterling had never mentioned Rachel Royce’s name to Suzanne Sullivan, and Suzanne, for her part, wouldn’t have cared about the name of a wife he clearly didn’t value.

"Since she doesn’t dare investigate further herself, I know she has her reservations. Her father has a new family now, and Rachel has a new older brother. They’re a happy, complete family. Since there’s been no contact for so many years, it’s best they continue on as strangers. It will save everyone from unnecessary heartache. This is for her own good."

"..."

After his conversation with Jane Sullivan, Tristan Sterling left the hotel.

Once in the car, Tristan Sterling took out his phone. After a long moment of silence, he made a call.

The call connected almost immediately.

"Tristan!" Suzanne Sullivan’s voice came over the line.

Tristan Sterling said, "You wanted to know about your father and sister."

After a two-second silence on the other end, she said, "Yes. Go on."

Tristan Sterling said slowly, "Your father has remarried and has other children. They’re all doing very well."

After he finished, the line went quiet again.

After a long pause, Suzanne Sullivan finally spoke. "Okay, I understand. As long as they’re happy, that’s all that matters. I need to make a trip back to Portington."

"Okay."

"By the way, I heard you were planning to acquire Prodigy," Tristan Sterling said suddenly.

Suzanne Sullivan affirmed, "I’m very optimistic about Prodigy’s R&D. Ascendant has the market, but we’re currently lacking in research and development. Prodigy has the technology, so a merger would cover Ascendant’s weaknesses. There’s internal strife at Prodigy right now, which presents an opportunity."

Prodigy was a company Peter Preston had started with a friend. In the early days, everyone was united in their drive to make the company successful.

But now that the company had reached a certain level of success, their business philosophies had started to diverge.

Tristan Sterling grunted in acknowledgment.

They didn’t talk much more after that.

They said their goodbyes and hung up.

Tristan Sterling put his phone down and said to the driver, "Let’s go."

「That afternoon.」

Rachel was in her office discussing work with Julian Jennings.

Suddenly, Julian Jennings received a phone call.

Rachel Royce overheard his conversation; the following week, Julian Jennings was going to Portington to publicly sign a joint investment project with Hector Ainsworth.

「Ten minutes later.」

Julian Jennings hung up the phone.

Rachel Royce commented, "The Ainsworth Family is making some big moves. They’re getting impatient."

Suzanne Sullivan was encroaching on MK’s core industries step by step.

Julian Jennings said, "Suzanne Sullivan isn’t showing the Ainsworth Family any mercy right now. This joint investment project is Hector Ainsworth’s biggest trump card."

Rachel Royce said, "I hope Rowan can get a piece of the pie from this project."

A smile touched Julian Jennings’s lips. "Of course."

Rachel Royce, of course, had complete faith in Julian Jennings. ’Though because of Claire Ainsworth and her mother, I have no love for the Ainsworth Family, I’d much rather see Suzanne Sullivan take a hit.’

Just then, Rachel Royce received a call from her daughter’s kindergarten teacher.

"Hello, Teacher Chandler."

Hearing what the teacher said, Rachel Royce’s expression changed abruptly. "Okay, I’m on my way to the school now."

Julian Jennings overheard and asked, "What’s wrong?"

Rachel Royce replied, "Melissa got into a fight with another kid at school."

Julian Jennings frowned. "Then you’d better get over to the school and see what’s going on!"

Rachel Royce nodded.

She grabbed her things and left the office.

「Half an hour later.」

Rachel Royce arrived at the kindergarten.

When she reached the teacher’s office, she could hear a child wailing and a parent angrily questioning the teacher.

Rachel Royce hurried inside.

She saw Melissa, her little face puffed up in anger and her small fists clenched, glaring at an exquisitely dressed woman standing before her.

"Melissa!"

When Melissa saw Rachel Royce, she immediately ran to her. The composure she had been holding onto shattered, and tears instantly streamed from her eyes.

Rachel Royce strode forward and swept her daughter into her arms. Melissa buried her face in her mother’s shoulder and began to sob.

Rachel Royce patted her back, her heart aching. "It’s okay, Melissa, don’t cry. Mommy’s here."

For a moment, the entire office was filled with the sound of children crying.

Rachel Royce sat down on a stool.

It took a long while of coaxing before she could finally get Melissa to stop crying.

Melissa wasn’t hurt.

The teacher said she had hit another child.
