Chapter 2013: Chapter 2013: Heartache

Su Yunjin spent the past few days strolling at the dock, and it seems like Gu Ya has been quite busy as well. Every day, Gu Ya leaves early in the morning and returns later than Su Yunjin in the evening.

Sometimes, even after coming back, Gu Ya continues to be busy in the study for a while. Since Gu Ya is busy, Su Yunjin doesn’t go to disturb him.

She just instructs Aunt Bao every day to prepare tonic soup for Gu Ya and send it to the study.

Gu Ya knows the tonic soup is specially instructed by his little wife to be made in the kitchen. Every time Aunt Bao delivers the soup, Gu Ya finishes it cleanly.

This day, Su Yunjin didn’t go to the dock anymore, as she has pretty much understood the cargo transportation there over the past few days.

Now, she needs to organize and summarize the materials she gathered in the past few days, so she uses Gu Ya’s study since she doesn’t have one.

Su Yunjin was busy in the study all morning and felt her hands aching. Her fifth brother’s wife, Mrs. Chu, brought Aluo to the residence.

When Su Yunjin was getting some snacks for Aluo, she unexpectedly noticed that Aluo’s hands had numerous tiny wounds, like little pinpricks, and Aluo pitifully cried about the pain.

Su Yunjin frowned and looked at Mrs. Chu, "Sister-in-law, what’s happened to Aluo’s hands?"

Mrs. Chu felt heartache seeing her daughter’s little hands pricked, yet she did it for her daughter’s own good. Girls, after growing up, will sooner or later get married. If they don’t know needlework, wouldn’t the in-laws find fault?

Even though Aluo is in a bit of pain now, it’s for Aluo’s good.

"Sister-in-law, I’ve been teaching Aluo needlework lately. This girl is clumsy, and within a few days, her hands got pricked all over." Mrs. Chu squeezed her daughter’s hands and looked them over, feeling both helpless and heartbroken.

Su Yunjin was shocked, "Sister-in-law, Aluo is still so young; why must she learn this now?"

"Sister-in-law, it’s not too early for Aluo to learn now. When I was a year younger than Aluo, I started learning needlework."

When Mrs. Chu started learning needlework as a child, her hands were also pricked quite a bit.

"Mom, it hurts." Aluo pitifully looked at Mrs. Chu, her little hands red and swollen. She didn’t like learning needlework at all, but her mother insisted she learn.

Su Yunjin felt pity for Aluo, especially seeing her little hands covered in pinpricks. It made Su Yunjin feel even more heartache.

In the future, when her daughter, Little Tiangua, grows up, Su Yunjin wouldn’t force her to learn needlework like Mrs. Chu, nor would she let Little Tiangua prick up her little hands with needle holes.

"Sister-in-law, I have medicine in my room, for pain relief. I’ll have Aunt Bao bring the ointment over, and we’ll apply it to Aluo."

Mrs. Chu thought it wasn’t necessary, "Sister-in-law, no need to trouble yourself, it’s just some needle pricks. They’ll heal on their own in a few days."

Moreover, Aluo needs to practice needlework every day now. If she doesn’t become proficient, she could get pricked again at any time. The only real solution is for Aluo to get skilled at needlework, so her hands won’t get pricked.

"Sister-in-law, Aluo is still small; needlework can be learned gradually. I have good ointment, once applied, her hands won’t hurt."

Su Yunjin still instructed Aunt Bao to fetch the medicine.

Mrs. Chu also felt heartache for her daughter; having only one daughter, how could she not? But Mrs. Chu had no choice; to prevent her daughter from being looked down upon in the future by her in-laws, she could only painfully let Aluo learn needlework now.

"Sister-in-law, I’m doing this for Aluo’s future as well. A girl who doesn’t know needlework will struggle to find a good husband."

Su Yunjin wanted to argue against Mrs. Chu, but as the words reached her mouth, she remembered this was ancient times, not the modern era, and swallowed her words back.
