The Heiress Spoiled by Four Brothers and One Devilish CEO-Chapter 303 Mommy, guess who I ran into today?
Tristan Reid stared into those eyes that bore an uncanny resemblance to Megan’s, his own eyes reddening. He crouched down and asked softly, "Little one, who did you come here with?"
Ethan Reid grinned, his eyes crinkling with joy as he pointed toward Samantha Green in the distance. "My mommy!"
Tristan’s gaze shifted to the tall, masked woman, and he chuckled. "Your mommy is very tall. You’ll grow up to be a strong man too. And your eyes—they’re beautiful, just like someone I used to know."
"Oh? Who? Someone important?"
Hearing the child’s sweet, innocent voice, Tristan nodded with a wistful smile. "My wife. Our child would be about your age now."
"Uncle, the way you say it... they’re not with you anymore?"
A shadow crossed Tristan’s face. "It’s been four and a half years. They vanished four and a half years ago."
"You must miss them a lot, huh? Was your child a boy or a girl?"
The man shook his head, a bitter laugh escaping him. "I don’t even know. Isn’t that ridiculous?"
"Uncle, don’t be sad. You’ll find them someday. Here, let me call you something." Without hesitation, Ethan wrapped his tiny arms around Tristan’s neck and whispered in his ear, "Daddy."
Tristan froze. "You—"
"Daddy, I missed you so much!"
A lump rose in Tristan’s throat as he pulled the small boy into a tight embrace. "What’s your name?"
"Hehe, I’m Ethan Reid." The boy pulled back slightly, his fox-like eyes twinkling mischievously. "Remember that, okay? Ethan Reid. Today’s my mommy’s birthday, and I gotta give her a present. Bye, Uncle!"
As he watched the little boy dash toward the woman, Tristan’s heart ached with a deep, hollow pain. Their child should have been just like this—bright, happy, and full of life.
Megan, where on earth are you?
Wait, is that woman’s birthday today as well?
He quickened his pace and followed them.
Samantha Green led Ethan Reid swiftly toward the jewelry section.
Noticing Tristan Reid’s gaze on them, she whispered, "Ethan, I think he’s onto us."
"Don’t worry! Just take off your hat."
Samantha blinked in confusion. "My hat?"
"Yeah! Just do it—I’ve got a plan!"
Knowing Ethan was full of clever tricks, she yanked off her hat, revealing her completely bald head.
Tristan Reid froze mid-step, his brow furrowing deeply.
"Mommy! How could this happen to you? You’re so young, and now you have cancer! I don’t want you to leave me so soon!" Ethan wailed dramatically, his voice cracking with fake sobs.
Samantha scooped him up and muttered under her breath, "You little brat, cursing me like that."
"Heh, he had to buy it, right?" Ethan clung to her leg, crying hysterically, his breaths coming in exaggerated gasps.
Tristan slowed his steps, then approached cautiously. "You’re Ethan’s mother?"
Samantha nodded.
Tristan Reid glanced at the approaching Cameron Brooks and extended his hand. "The check."
Cameron froze for a split second before hurriedly producing a checkbook and pen. Tristan swiftly scribbled a figure and signed his name with a flourish, then handed it to Samantha Green.
"The child’s still young. Use this for your treatment—he needs you," Tristan said, his voice firm yet carrying an undercurrent of compassion.
Samantha’s eyes darted to the amount—two million. Her breath hitched. Dear heavens!
This was dirty money. She couldn’t accept it.
Sinful! Absolutely sinful!
Yet a small, delicate hand shot out, sniffling pitifully as it grabbed the check. "Thank you, uncle! You’re so kind. I wish you happiness and a speedy family reunion," Ethan Reid chirped, his tear-streaked face transforming into a radiant smile.
"Thank you too, Ethan," Tristan replied softly before turning on his heel and walking away.
Ethan stared reverently at the signature—Tristan Reid—and sighed. "Daddy’s handwriting is so elegant! Just like him." He carefully tucked the check into his little backpack and tugged at Samantha’s sleeve. "Come on, Extinction, let’s go jewelry shopping for Mommy!"
The boy who’d been bawling moments ago was now beaming like sunshine.
Samantha chuckled under her breath. "What a waste of talent—this kid should be in Hollywood."
Since Ethan couldn’t reach the display cases, Samantha lifted him up as they browsed. After much deliberation, Ethan pointed excitedly at a delicate clover pendant necklace.
"Four-leaf clovers mean luck, wealth, health, and love!" Ethan explained with the gravity of a professor. "Mommy always says meeting Daddy was her greatest luck. And wealth? Pfft—she just hacks into some company and boom! Money rains down. Health... well..." He scrunched his nose. "Her hair turned white way too young, but whatever. What she really needs now is LOVE!" He nodded decisively. "This clover will help her find it faster!"
His earnest declaration made Samantha’s lips twitch with suppressed laughter as the sales associate rang up their purchase.
Samantha Green found most of his reasoning quite sound and persuasive—except for that bit about financial luck.
She pinched Ethan Reid’s chubby little cheek. "Alright, let’s get this one then."
Ethan pulled out a phone from his backpack and grinned. "Samantha, you go pay for it. Ethan Reid’s legs are way too precious to walk any further."
Samantha’s lips twitched in exasperation. This little rascal always had an excuse ready.
Just as she finished paying, she spotted Tristan Reid doubling back.
Oh no. Did he figure something out?
She swallowed hard, quickly scooped Ethan into her arms, and made a beeline for the exit.
"Wait," Tristan called out, stopping them in their tracks. He turned to Ethan. "How do you spell your name?"
Ethan smiled sweetly. "Xi as in ’west,’ Yao as in ’distant.’"
Tristan’s lips curved slightly. "If you ever need anything, remember to look for me at Zhan Corporation. My name is Tristan Reid."
"Uncle, can I give you a kiss?"
Tristan froze in surprise. Before he could respond, Ethan wriggled out of Samantha’s arms, dropped to the ground, and wrapped his tiny arms around Tristan’s leg.
The man bent down, and in a flash, Ethan yanked down his mask, planted a quick peck on Tristan’s cheek, then hastily pulled the mask back up.
With a cheerful wave, he dashed back to Samantha’s side.
Heart pounding, Samantha clutched Ethan tightly and hurried out of the department store.
In the car, Samantha Green glanced at the despondent little Ethan Reid through the rearview mirror. "What’s wrong, sweetheart? Aren’t you happy to see Daddy?"
"Not happy. Because Mommy didn’t get to see Daddy," Ethan pouted, his voice tinged with longing. "I really wish they could be together."
Samantha sighed softly, her grip tightening slightly on the steering wheel. "I know how you feel. From the moment I first met your mom, I’ve wished she could have a reunited family. And now, it’s been four and a half years already. But don’t worry—just six more months, and you’ll finally be together."
Ethan rubbed his chin thoughtfully, mimicking the mannerisms of an adult. "But why did they have to be apart for five whole years? Was Mommy threatened by someone? Who would want to keep our family separated for so long?" His small face darkened with determination. "If I ever find out who’s responsible, I’ll make sure they pay for it!"
Hearing the venom in his tone, Samantha exhaled wearily. "Ethan, you’re still too young to worry about these things. What you need to focus on right now is—"
"—studying hard and aiming high! Ugh, I’ve heard it a million times!" he groaned, rolling his eyes dramatically.
Samantha shook her head, a wry smile tugging at her lips. This kid was too much.
Back at Zhengfa Nunnery, Ethan burst through the door with renewed energy. "Mommy, I’m home!"
Megan swept him into her arms, her embrace warm and comforting. "My precious boy is back."
"Mommy, guess who I ran into today?" he chirped, eyes sparkling with excitement.
