The Heiress Spoiled by Four Brothers and One Devilish CEO-Chapter 291 You crying just makes my heart hurt.
Jason shut the door behind him and slowly slid down to the carpet with his back against it. He buried his hands in his hair, his temples throbbing like crazy.
From the moment he first saw Michelle, his heart had gone into overdrive. He couldn’t stop thinking about her, obsessing over every little move she made.
Bringing her to the Lewis family’s estate hadn’t been just for fun—he had wanted Stella to meet the girl he was falling for.
When that desperate text came through from her, it hit him like a tidal wave. He’d raced out, speeding all the way to that apartment. The second the door opened, she flew straight into his arms, and seeing her puffy red face had made his heart twist with pain.
He brought her home. They started dating. He loved hugging her, kissing her, picturing a whole life with her.
But life played a cruel trick. The girl he loved? A fake. Someone else wearing that innocent-looking face, lying to him the whole time.
It was like having his heart cut open over and over. He couldn’t handle the lies. Couldn’t handle being made a fool.
He buried his face in his knees. Scalding tears soaked into the rug.
A knock broke the silence. Jason wiped his face, then headed to the bathroom and splashed water over himself. He took a deep breath and opened the door. Standing there was Oliver.
"Hurting?" Oliver asked, voice calm and cold.
"I’m fine," Jason replied, walking into the closet to change. "Didn’t you go to the station?"
"I did, but I was worried about you. You looked pretty wrecked. Really fell for her, didn’t you?" Oliver didn’t sugarcoat anything.
He lit a cigarette and handed one over.
Jason pulled on a hoodie, took the cigarette, and inhaled deeply. "Yeah. Fell hard... for someone who wasn’t even real."
Oliver gave his shoulder a firm pat. "Time heals all wounds—even this. Love’s just part of the deal. Whether it works out or not, it’s an experience. You’ll get through it."
Jason let out a small laugh. "Big bro, you’ve never even been in love. How come you talk like a pro? Wait—did you have a secret romance or something?"
"Read enough books and you’ll know a thing or two," Oliver said seriously. "Saves you from some heartache."
"Come on. Let’s go get your statement done at the station. You were technically Wendy’s boyfriend. Police will want to hear from you."
Jason let out a long sigh. "Not Wendy. Michelle."
"I’ve already got someone looking into the real Michelle’s whereabouts," Oliver said with a shake of his head. "Might be a dead end, though. Poor girl."
Jason stayed quiet for a moment, then followed Oliver out.
Hospital.
One of the doctors finished checking Emily’ wounds and turned to Brandon. "The stitches were done really well. If you hadn’t gotten her here in time... let’s just say it wouldn’t have looked good. The baby would’ve been at risk too. Now it’s just a matter of keeping things clean and changing bandages. No major issues ahead. Honestly, Professor Lewis, you probably know this better than we do. I’ll spare the lecture."The doctor glanced at Megan again. "Mrs. Reid is fine too. Just needs a little oxygen. The baby’s ultrasound looks good. Make sure she gets enough rest once she’s home."
With that, he walked out of the ER.
Brandon, holding Emily in his arms, turned to Tristan. "Let’s get them home."
Tristan nodded. "Yeah. I don’t want Megan catching a chill. I’ll make her some ginger tea when we get back."
A bunch of people were waiting outside the ER.
Stella looked at the group, visibly anxious. "So? Is everything okay?"
Brandon nodded. "Both Emily and Megan just need rest. Mom, could you make some ginger tea for Megan? It’ll help keep the cold away."
"Of course. Zachary, let’s head back. We’ll make pigeon soup for Emily and ginger tea for Megan."
Zachary helped Stella out of the hospital.
Rachel, Lina, and Chloe were all gathered, looking worried about Megan. Kai and Kevin Ward stayed by their side, not saying much but clearly sharing the concern.
Tristan nodded. "Megan’s fine now, really. Don’t worry. You guys should head back to Capitol City first. Once she’s doing better, we’ll go back too. How’s Grandpa doing?"
Lina adjusted her glasses. "He’s with my parents. They’ve got him. None of us thought he’d panic and jump in like that though."
Megan tugged at Tristan’s sleeve. "Let’s go see Grandpa before we head home, okay?"
"Nope. If you get a fever, that’s a whole new headache." Tristan shot her down gently. "Let’s go home first."
The four of them left the hospital. Samuel had the minivan pulled up and was waiting at the entrance. He saw them walking out and snubbed out his cigarette.
He opened the car door, eyeing Emily’s pale face. "How’s she doing, third sis-in-law?"
"She’s okay. Needs lots of rest." Brandon carefully carried her into the van.
"And Megan?"
Megan gestured for Tristan to put her down, then lightly twirled in place. "I’m totally fine. I feel bad I made you all worry."
Samuel reached out and touched her forehead. "You sure you’re not running a fever? Dang, you’re being way too polite to me."
Tristan frowned and brushed his hand away. "Don’t jinx it. Just drive."
Samuel rolled his eyes and walked around to the driver’s seat.
Tristan helped Megan up into the van. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
They drove straight back to the Lewis family home.
Once there, Tristan scooped Megan up and carried her straight to their room.
Brandon did the same with Emily, especially cautious since she’d been bleeding earlier.
Megan was bundled into bed by Tristan, who wrapped her tight in blankets like a burrito. "Does that feel a bit warmer now?"
Megan grinned. "Definitely. Look at me—all wrapped up. Tristan, I’m so happy I could cry."
"Dummy, what are you crying about?" Tristan wiped the tears from her face gently. "You crying just makes my heart hurt. Come on, calm down. Getting worked up isn’t great for the baby either."
"But I just want to let it out. You know what? That sorcery worm in you... it can be removed. Mr. Ford agreed to help. I’m just so happy."
Tristan frowned slightly. "I don’t know... this whole thing’s starting to feel like it might be more complicated than it seems."
