The Heiress Spoiled by Four Brothers and One Devilish CEO-Chapter 244 The Poisonous Gift
Michelle shrugged off her hand, brushing her fingers like she’d touched something filthy.
She blew lightly on her freshly done nails, her tone dripping with disdain. "You really think she had it easy?"
Mrs. Lewis’s eyes welled up instantly, her body trembling. "W-What happened to her? What kind of suffering did she go through?"
Leaning lazily against the back of the chair, Michelle crossed her legs. "Her face got slashed up in Imperial Prison—completely ruined. Then she was dumped in the slums and used as a sex slave."
"She couldn’t run away?"
"Run? Seriously?" Michelle scoffed, flicking her gaze up. "She was implanted with a parasite. Without the antidote each month, she’d itch so bad she’d scratch herself raw."
Mrs. Lewis sobbed, her heart shattering. "My poor girl... how could she go through something like this... Do you know where she is now? Can we save her?"
"Save her? Don’t make me laugh. I was lucky to get out myself." Michelle smiled faintly. "Her only wish was for you to get revenge. If not for Megan, she wouldn’t have ended up like that. She was still the Lewis family’s precious daughter—she didn’t deserve to be degraded like that."
Mrs. Lewis clutched her chest, devastated. "Damn that Megan! If it weren’t for her, Wendy wouldn’t have suffered so much. What can I do? Tell me, no matter what it takes, I’ll do it—even if it costs me everything."
Michelle handed her a small white packet. "I can’t do anything myself right now, not with the wedding coming up. But this? It’s best handled by you."
"This is...?"
Michelle gently rested her hands on the old woman’s shoulders. "Grandma, it’s just something that causes a miscarriage. It doesn’t take anyone’s life."
Mrs. Lewis frowned. "But... Emily is pregnant too. If this gets out, she could get caught up in it."
Michelle laughed softly. "How has Brandon treated you lately? This whole family sees you as the enemy. Even Grandpa humiliated you in public. Tell me, is anyone here actually on your side?"
She gave a sweet smile. "When I marry Jason, I’ll make sure to take good care of you."
Still uncertain, Mrs. Lewis hesitated. "Are you sure this is just for miscarriage? Last time someone gave me something like this, it turned out to be poison."
Michelle let her arms fall, crossing them in front of her chest. "You don’t trust me, Grandma? I eat with everyone too—I don’t have a death wish. I care about Jason—I’d never risk his life."
Seeing the old lady hesitate, Michelle softened her tone. "There’s no rush. You can think it over. I’m just saying, if the truth ever comes out and ties to me... I can’t guarantee Wendy won’t be dragged into this."
Mrs. Lewis gripped her hands tightly. "Don’t worry—if something happens, I’ll take full responsibility. This has nothing to do with you."
"You truly are kind, Grandma. Wendy was right about you. Now, listen—for this to work, you need to smooth things over with Grandpa and start eating meals with the family again. That’s the only way you’ll have a chance."
Michelle checked the time. "It’s late—get some rest. I can’t visit often, so you’ll need to make the effort to fit in more. That way we can stay close. Good night."
With that, she turned and left the prayer room, heading back the same way she came.
Mrs. Lewis stared at the packet in her hands, collapsing into the chair behind her.She smacked her thigh hard, eyes burning with rage. "That damn Megan made my Wendy less than human! She’s ruined—and I swear, she’ll get what’s coming to her!"
At that moment, Megan sneezed. "Tsk, seems like the old hag’s really holding a grudge against me."
Tristan glanced her way, looking serious. "Do you buy what Michelle said about Wendy?"
"Not even a little." Megan rubbed her chin, eyes thoughtful. "She looks like a harmless lamb on the outside—almost had me fooled. Woman’s got skills. I’m betting Nathaniel sent her. Dead or not, he had a lot of dirt on people. You think Nicole might know her?"
Tristan’s eyes narrowed. "I doubt it. Michelle’s in the public eye now. If Nicole knew anything, she’d have warned us."
"So she’s just a fresh piece on the board, huh?" Megan saved the surveillance footage. "Talk to Jason about it tomorrow. I don’t want him getting hurt."
Tristan gave a nod. "Get some rest for now."
Next morning, it was Brandon Lewis’s turn in the kitchen, but he had zero skills—almost set the whole kitchen on fire.
Emily was coughing her lungs out, rushing to the door for some air.
Michelle walked up to her, patting her lightly on the back. "You okay, Emily?"
"I’m good." Emily turned to glance at her, catching sight of the coral necklace around Michelle’s neck. "Thanks."
"Let’s go to the yoga room," Michelle smiled, tugging gently on her hand. "You might not need it now, but once that baby gets a little bigger, it’ll definitely come in handy."
Over in Jason’s room, he sat quietly on the couch, eyes fixed on the video playing on his phone. His knuckles were white, veins standing out.
Tristan sat across from him, quietly exhaling smoke, his face half-obscured in the haze.
"You call this disappointment now. After marriage—pure despair."
Jason replayed the same scene over and over. The woman in the video—so different from the Michelle he thought he knew.
He let out a long breath. "So what’s the next step?"
Tristan crushed his cigarette in the ashtray. "Keep things as they are. Don’t get physical. We need to lure Wendy out. Or... try changing her. Stay with her long-term."
Jason’s expression twisted. He let out a dry scoff. "Am I crazy? Even thinking about plan B makes me sick."
Tristan stood and clapped a hand on his shoulder. "You’re an actor, remember? Just play your part. Don’t flinch when it’s time to strike—and when it’s time to kiss, well, suck it up."
Jason looked like he’d just swallowed a bug. "I can’t."
Tristan chuckled. "Megan told me to pass this on—’Only an idiot leaves a free lunch untouched.’"
Jason watched his friend walk away, forcing a smile that didn’t reach his eyes.
Even with all his years acting, he never thought he’d be acting his own life. He truly believed Michelle was his forever—like a bird that found its sky, a bee that found its bloom. He really loved her. He wanted a lifetime.
Life sure had a twisted sense of humor, making a fool out of the one who went all in.
Jason got up and walked to the full-length window. The sky outside was a stunning blue—he looked at it with a bitter, sarcastic smile.
Just then, someone knocked on the door.
Jason’s eyes narrowed slightly as he turned to answer it.
