Chapter 160: Chapter 160 A Visit from Her Biological Mother

The man’s pale face came into her view, and she murmured, "Is this a dream?"

No answer came—just a long, burning kiss as his response.

His body burned like fire, making every nerve in Megan’s body tremble.

She slipped off his coat, only to hear him let out a muffled groan. She quickly sat up and noticed the bandage on his arm. Her brows knitted. "You’re hurt?"

Tristan smiled faintly. "Just a scratch, nothing serious."

Megan gently peeled back the bandage, and her chest clenched—it was a bullet wound.

She looked up at him. "You promised to stay safe. Liar."

Tristan pulled her into his arms with his good arm and pressed a kiss to her hair. "Hey, it’s just my arm. See? I’m here, whole and alive. I can even handle a workout right now."

His carefree chuckle made Megan’s nose tingle with emotion. "Tell me where you were."

Tristan told her about raiding Solencia Country and blowing up Soth’s hideout. He also told her the man behind it all had a red mole on the inside of his right wrist. If she ever saw someone like that, she should be extra careful and call him immediately.

Even though she hadn’t seen it with her own eyes, just imagining the scene made her heart race.

Megan frowned slightly. "What if someone recognized your face?"

"Relax, I wore a face mask."

That made her eyes narrow playfully. "You sure you’re not keeping more secrets from me?"

He definitely wasn’t planning on sharing more—too risky. He shook his head. "Seriously, no. What’s your brain cooking up now? You already know I’m a Lila Moore designer, head of Blackwing, and CEO of NexusStar Holdings. What else could I be hiding?"

Megan shook her head. "That’s all I know."

He pinched her chin gently. "You better not be lying to me... or I’ll make you pay."

Then he tucked her into bed with him. "Let’s just sleep for a bit."

Watching the red in his eyes, Megan’s heart ached. He hadn’t slept in two days, and soon his breathing evened out.

Come morning, Dreamscape Manor had visitors.

Zachary and Stella had come to see Megan after hearing about Diane’s passing.

Facing them again, her feelings had shifted. After all, they were her biological parents.

She poured them tea. "It’s a little hot, be careful."

Zachary had already learned the truth about her, but Stella hadn’t. Her face was full of sorrow. "I was heartbroken to hear Mrs. Shaw passed... and her husband too, just the day before. Megan, you have to be strong."

Megan nodded. "I will. I’ve got my dad and sister to take care of. For safety, Chloe’s staying here at Dreamscape Manor."

Stella gripped her hand. "If there’s anything I can do, just say the word. You and Tristan dropping me off in Lincheng... I never meant for you to suffer through that. I had no idea the old lady would say such hurtful things. Megan, I know asking you to accept being my goddaughter might be hard..."

"It’s not," Megan interrupted. "I’ve thought it through. That has nothing to do with Mrs. Lewis. She doesn’t get to decide how you and I connect."Stella didn’t expect things to take such a turn, especially after how hostile Mrs. Lewis and Tristan had been before—like oil and water.

She sneaked a glance at Tristan, who let out a soft chuckle and said, "As long as Megan’s happy, I’m good."

Zachary, who hadn’t said much all this time, finally nodded and added, "Don’t worry about my mother’s opinion. As long as we’re on good terms, that’s all that matters."

Stella was a bit taken aback by Zachary’s response. After all, he’d never really gone against Mrs. Lewis before. Every suggestion she made, he took seriously.

His words today hit her right in the feels.

She held out a hand toward Chloe. "Come here, Chloe."

Chloe obediently plopped down onto the sofa beside her. "Mrs. Lewis."

Stella gently grabbed her hand. "Since Megan’s become my goddaughter, how about you become one too?"

Chloe’s nose tingled, and she burst into tears. After losing her mom in that accident, she’d been missing a mother’s warmth for a long time.

To hear Stella say those words... it was like a warm hug to her heart. She nodded without hesitation.

Megan asked Zachary and Stella to stay for lunch at Dreamscape Manor, and they happily agreed.

Most of the food was cooked by Stella herself—she called it her special ’mom-made lunch.’

Just as everyone was about to dig in, a silver sports car honked outside the gates.

Glancing at the gate camera, Megan instantly recognized the uninvited moocher—Samuel.

He waltzed into the villa, eyes scanning the space. "Megan, this place is fancy! You gotta save a room for me too, right?"

Tristan’s face darkened in an instant. "You can share with Zeta Prime."

Samuel raised one eyebrow. "Who’s that?"

Megan laughed, covering her mouth. "A robot with about the same settings as you."

Samuel brushed back his hair. "What setting is that?"

Megan shot him a smirk. "Chatterbox mode."

They weren’t even halfway through the meal when Megan started getting calls from Oliver, Jason, and Brandon, each offering comfort and support.

She was moved, deeply grateful. She knew they had all shown up—or reached out—because they didn’t want her falling apart over Diane’s death.

Though the suspect in the accident was saved in time, legal consequences were still waiting.

The funeral was held on the third day. It rained—again.

Megan stood silently in front of the crystal casket. A sheer white veil covered Diane’s face. The crash had broken nearly every bone in her skull. Even with the best makeup artists, there was no way to make her look like herself.

So Megan had draped the veil over her herself.

The worst part was how suddenly she died. No last words, no warning—just gone. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

Megan accompanied the mortician to the prep room to handle the body. Outside that door, her heart felt like it had split in two.

An hour later, the mortician placed the urn gently in her hands.

She felt Chloe was the best person to send Diane off. Handing it over, she said, "Mom loved seeing you grow up. Chloe, help her with this last journey."

The Shaws had a family burial ground, so Diane was laid to rest in Tianyuan Cemetery.

Bernard’s ashes in that same place weren’t real—but Diane’s were.

Megan knelt in front of the grave, not moving, rain soaking through her clothes, sticking to her skin.

No one noticed the gaze quietly watching her from the shadows.
