Chapter 108: Chapter 108 Seems Like You’re Keeping A Lot of Secrets

"What are you doing?" Amelia stood there with a sweet, harmless smile, hands folded behind her back.

Megan had no idea how long Amelia had been standing behind her—long enough to catch her typing, maybe.

She quickly stood up and faced her. Megan was a good half a head taller.

A sly grin played at her lips. "Isn’t it obvious?"

Amelia tilted her head, smile still there but her eyes betrayed nothing. "Seems like you’re keeping a lot of secrets."

Megan casually reached out and flicked at the lace on Amelia’s chest—her finger accidentally bumping into the soft curve beneath. It bounced slightly.

Amelia’s eyes widened in disbelief, clearly thrown off. She felt a tad violated.

With a lazy, teasing tone, Megan chuckled. "You too, though."

Amelia’s smile remained, feigning innocence like nothing had happened.

Megan turned and sat back in the swivel chair, fingers lightly brushing the ring on her left hand. "Heard someone’s offering five mil for surveillance footage from inside and around Riverside Hospital."

At that, Amelia’s lashes fluttered for half a second—so brief most people wouldn’t have noticed. But Megan did.

She went on, "And also for certain test results. There are always smart people out there who can make the impossible easy."

Amelia lifted her chin slightly. "I’m not great with tech, but thanks for the useful money-making tip."

Megan crossed her legs, the picture of grace. "Why would the daughter of the Lewis family need to hustle for cash?" Her tone was light, but the irony bit deep. "Say stuff like that, and people might think you’re not really part of the family."

Amelia’s smile twitched awkwardly. She could feel the hidden meaning behind Megan’s words.

This morning, she had gone to a trusted doctor to request some tests. The results hit her like a truck.

Then the man called. He said she was being followed—by someone working for Oliver.

She instantly knew: the family was starting to suspect her. So, she made a quick decision—to side with the man.

He promised to take care of everything, and she chose to believe him.

But Megan’s words now had her second-guessing everything.

Did she somehow already know what had happened today?

No, that couldn’t be. If Megan knew, she would’ve already outed her—especially over that whole identity switch thing.

This had to just be some mind games. Just random guesses to shake her up.

Amelia couldn’t crumble.

She gave a calm, light smile. "People gotta grow up sometime. Can’t stay glued to the family forever, like a freeloader."

Megan smirked, amused. "Sure, being self-sufficient is great. But eyeing what’s not yours... now that’s a whole other story."

Amelia kept her gaze low, pretending to be all remorseful. "I really didn’t expect Molly to..."

Before she could finish her excuse, Megan cut her off. "You’re not always gonna be this lucky, Miss Lewis. Kinda like I almost forgot—Natalie is your cousin, right? Ended up getting tossed into a psych ward."

Right then, Samuel walked in, strides confident, expression dark.

"What are you doing in here?" he asked coldly.

Amelia lowered her head, playing the pitiful act again. "If you don’t want me here, I’ll leave." Then she turned and strolled out.

Watching her leave, Samuel’s face softened into a smile. "Sorry about that, I didn’t think she’d barge in. Did she upset you?"

Megan stood up, heading downstairs. "Well, with you playing favorites like that, of course she’s pissed."

She began taking Stella’ measurements, briefly walking her through the design concept and fabric choices.

Stella didn’t really pay attention. Her eyes barely left Megan, and the smile on her face never faded.

Amelia stood off to the side watching them, hands clenched so tightly her nails dug into her palms—not that she felt the pain.

"Mrs. Banks, are you happy with the design?" Megan asked.

Stella nodded, still smiling. "Very much. No rush—take your time." She grabbed her purse, pulled out a check, and handed it to Megan. "Sam told me he already paid twenty-seven million, but I know that’s nowhere near enough, so here’s another fifty million upfront."

Megan immediately pushed the check back. "Seeing as you and I hit it off so well, consider the clothes a gift from me. As for the twenty-seven million Sam mentioned—I don’t recall anything like that."

Samuel:[Seriously? You just exposed me like that?]

Megan: [Gotta expose you or it won’t count as a gift, right?]

Suddenly, her phone dinged. She glanced at the screen.

Tristan: [On my way, sweetheart! Gotta grab my girl before the rainbow ride disappears. See you in a few!]

He was right on time—3:30 sharp.

Megan put her phone away, stood up, and said her goodbyes to Stella.

Stella took her hand gently. "Think about what I said, okay?"

Of course Megan knew what she meant. The whole adopt-you-as-my-goddaughter thing still wasn’t off the table.

She nodded. "Sure, we can talk more on WhatsApp."

Amelia, holding onto Stella’s arm, and Samuel walked Megan out.

Outside, under the sunlight, Tristan leaned casually against the car door wearing a navy blue suit. One hand in his pocket, one leg straight, the other slightly bent—he looked every bit the showstopper.

As soon as he saw her, a smile tugged at his lips. He straightened up and reached out his hand to her.Megan placed her slender hand into his warm palm and was gently pulled to his side.

She looked up at him with clear eyes. "You came to get me, but what about my car?"

Tristan softly brushed her fair, delicate cheek. "Cameron brought me here. I’ll drive your car later."

Cameron: [The forever designated driver.]

He gave a slight respectful nod. "Mrs. Reid. Mr. Samuel."

Off to the side, Amelia’s cheeks flushed. She had been rehearsing how to respond if he greeted her... but the moment never came.

Not even a glance. Nothing.

Her heart sank. She had admired this man for years, but he had never really looked at her.

Why does everything revolve around Megan?

Tristan was one thing, but even her brothers favored Megan. Now even her mother seemed to be enchanted by her like everyone else.

She resented them all. If Mr. and Mrs. Lewis hadn’t spilled to Mr. Reid that she wasn’t their biological daughter, then maybe she would be the one standing next to Tristan now.

She refused to accept it. She wasn’t going to let that woman keep everything.

An idea suddenly flickered in her mind.

Stella smiled warmly at the couple. "You two make such a stunning pair. So—any plans for the wedding? I need to know when to prepare my red envelope."

Tristan chuckled lightly. "You’re too modest, Mrs. Banks. In my eyes, you’re still as graceful and charming as ever."

The compliment lit up her whole face. She turned to Samuel. "You could really learn a thing or two from Tristan. You’re not already secretly dating someone, are you?"

Samuel:[I just stood here doing nothing and still got roasted... why me?]

Tristan tightened his arm around the small woman at his side. "I already married the most amazing woman in the world."

Translation: Good luck trying to find anyone as perfect as her.

As the couple walked off, Samuel said, "Mom, want me to take you back to Lindon City?"

Stella, eyes fixed on the car disappearing around the corner, snapped out of it. "What did you say?"

Samuel replied, "... I said I’ll take you back to Lindon."

She waved it off. "I’ll stay a few more days."

Samuel was stunned—his mom, who could never be pulled away from Zachary for long, suddenly wanted to stay in the capital?

Amelia didn’t seem like she planned on leaving either; she casually looped her arm around Stella’s and walked inside.

Smiling sweetly, she said, "Heard Megan had Brandon help her grandfather get treatment. Seems like she owes the Lewis family a big favor."

Which was her way of hinting—Megan’s whole ’we just clicked, and I wanted to give you clothes’ act was just that—an act. All because she owed the Lewis family something.
