Chapter 106: Chapter 106 Why Don’t You Become My Goddaughter?

Megan kept her eyes on the footage. A guy wearing a mask led the doctor away and disappeared for about twenty minutes.

"That’s Angus, Amelia’s man," Tristan’s voice came through, identifying the masked man.

Megan’s eyes lit up. "So Angus already knew why Amelia came to the doctor. Too bad he’s dead, and the doctor too. No one’s left to testify. Looks like someone’s backing Amelia."

"Spot on," Tristan agreed. "Seems the Lewis family ticked off the wrong people."

"Look! That guy in the baseball cap!" Megan’s sly, fox-like gaze narrowed at the screen.

A man with a cap jumped into the backseat of a black Volkswagen. Not long after, the mask guy hurried over and got in too. The camera angle only caught him struggling—nothing of the backseat.

Five minutes later, the masked man stopped moving. The cap guy got out, walked back into the hospital, and headed to the locker room.

Less than five minutes later, he left.

In that window, the doctor got stabbed to death.

Megan pulled up footage of the car he drove off with—it was running fake plates. Tracking the route, she and Tristan said it at the same time, "Same path used in Molly and Wyatt’s abduction."

Tristan went quiet for a while. "Looks like someone’s targeting the Reids and Lewises. Megan, send the recovered footage to Oliver."

"On it."

After hanging up, Megan, using her alias Blackwing, sent an email to Oliver.

Right after reading it, Oliver called Samuel. "You done cracking it?"

"Not yet. That person’s really good," Samuel said bitterly.

Oliver sighed. "Knew I couldn’t count on you. Blackwing sent me everything for five mil."

Samuel clenched his jaw. "He probably staged the whole thing himself!"

"And what can you do?" Oliver sneered. "The so-called ’god of hackers’ has lost his touch."

"Come on, don’t just boost others while dragging me down!"

Oliver snorted. "If Blackwing wanted to break into your IP, he could easily do it. The fact he hasn’t means one thing."

"What thing?" Samuel already had a bad feeling, dreading the answer.

"He doesn’t even care."

The dial tone came next, leaving Samuel with that brutally honest punch to the gut.

He used to be number one in the hacking world. Now, he had to admit he’d dropped to third place.

At the top? Blackwing. The guy even wrestled control back from the Eraser.

While Samuel couldn’t even crack the Eraser’s firewall.

His head pounded. He massaged his temples with both index fingers.

The door creaked open. A graceful, elegant woman stepped inside.

Stella looked like she hadn’t aged a day. Even at 51, she could seriously pass for her mid-thirties.

She held a tray of neatly arranged fruit.

Catching sight of Samuel’s messy, bird-nest hair, she chuckled softly.

"With that disheveled look, how were you ever the campus heartthrob at Meridian University? Seriously though, what’s got you in this state?"Samuel picked up his fork, jabbed a piece of pineapple, and popped it in his mouth, chewing like he was eating cardboard. "It’s nothing. I just made my big brother lose five million."

Stella reached up gently and smoothed his messy hair. "Don’t worry, our family’s loaded. Five million is just pocket change."

"Mom, you don’t get it. It’s not about the money—it’s about reputation."

Stella smiled with her usual warmth. "Reputation, huh? As long as you’ve still got that handsome face, who cares? That face is worth more than any reputation anyway."

Samuel: [Is this what having a biological mom feels like?]

"When’s Lila getting here?" 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

Samuel glanced at his watch. "We scheduled for two. Should be anytime now. I’ll go wait at the door."

At that moment, the person he was waiting for just closed her laptop and slid it into her backpack.

Rachel walked into the room. "Megan, heading out?"

Megan slung the backpack over her shoulder and nodded lightly. "Samuel’s villa is at Building 32 in Emerald Cove. It’s not too far. I’ll head off first."

Rachel walked her to the car.

As she was about to leave, a thought struck Megan and she knocked on the car window.

"What’s up?"

Rachel grinned. "Hey, you and my brother up to something shady?"

Megan let out a dry laugh, rolled up the window without mercy, and drove off without a word, leaving behind only a faint trace of exhaust in the breeze for Rachel to savor.

Three minutes later, her car pulled up outside Samuel’s villa.

Megan stepped out and spotted two figures by the gate.

One stood tall and poised, practically glowing under the afternoon sun.

The other was a strikingly beautiful woman—without any makeup, she still held an air of elegance that couldn’t be missed.

The first, of course, was Samuel, the fourth son of the Lewis family.

The second—Megan had seen her in articles and online—was none other than Stella, the matriarch of the Lewis family.

Back in the day, Stella had been a rising star in showbiz but stayed off the radar, unwilling to play the dirty game. She ended up offending some big-shot and got blacklisted. That’s when Zachary made his move. He stood up to the industry powerhouses, bought out her agency, and publicly pursued her.

He went all in for her—bought her a private island she loved, pampered her endlessly, spoiled her to the core.

Once Stella married Zachary, she stepped away from the entertainment world and became the power wife behind the scenes.

They had four sons and one daughter, and her life turned into something straight out of a fairy tale—the kind high society dream of.

Megan approached them with a subtle nod. "Hello, Mrs. Lewis."

The moment Stella saw her, it was like the world paused. She stared for a while before speaking. "Funny, I don’t remember ever meeting you before."

Megan smiled. "I don’t really go to parties or mingle much."

Stella gently took her hands and looked her over with real curiosity. "You kind of remind me of my younger self."

And just like that, Megan finally understood why Stella always felt familiar somehow.

She smiled. "Then it’s an honor to resemble you even just a little."

Stella asked, "When’s your birthday, dear?"

Megan replied, "November 28, 2036."

"Oh." Stella’s eyes dimmed almost instantly, the sparkle gone. "My daughter was born on December 1."

Samuel stepped closer and wrapped an arm around Stella’s shoulder. He knew she was thinking of the sister he never got to meet.

"Mom, are you okay?"

Stella shook her head gently, then looked at Megan with soft affection. "You really do look like me. Why don’t you become my goddaughter?"
