The Headline Queen: President Hawthorne is Her Die-Hard Fan!-Chapter 518: Seeking Help
The doctor immediately treated Paige Sterling with simple first aid, gradually bringing her out of life-threatening danger.
Watching Paige’s breathing slowly stabilize, Henry Hale let out a sigh of relief.
When Paige woke up again, she found her body wasn’t the same as before; she was weak, and her whole body felt sore, making her not even want to lift her eyelids.
So she kept her eyes closed, which in Henry Hale’s view, meant Paige didn’t want to talk to him at all.
He knew Paige still hated him; taking her away by such despicable means was nothing but harm to her. How could she not hate him?
He never dared to hope for Paige’s affection. Perhaps hatred isn’t so bad?
Henry Hale couldn’t help but sigh, "Paige, I’m sorry, I didn’t know you would be allergic..."
Paige was too lazy to argue with this hypocrite. Wasn’t it obvious what consequences might follow with the stuff his lab produced?
She was nauseated by Henry’s way of making excuses after having done harm, just like a hypocrite pretending to be virtuous.
"Don’t worry, in the future..."
He sighed again, "I’ll pay attention to the dosage, don’t be afraid."
Paige, "..." Ha, thanks a lot.
Paige kept her eyes closed the whole time, and Henry had no clue what she was thinking.
He felt somewhat unsettled, "Paige, I know you’re awake, don’t ignore me."
He didn’t mind being annoying; he just kept babbling in Paige’s ear.
Even the driver couldn’t stand it. It was the first time he had seen Henry talk so much. Wasn’t he tired of talking the whole way?
Finally, Paige endured the soreness and opened her mouth.
"President Hale, could you please shut up? Your babbling is really annoying."
Henry, however, smiled, as if Paige had praised rather than scolded him.
"Alright, I won’t say anymore. You have a good rest."
After that, Henry became quieter, but whenever Paige closed her eyes, he would often want to touch his face.
Only then would Paige open her eyes, looking at Henry with a gaze that was full of disgust and contempt.
Henry was suddenly stimulated by Paige’s look, as if she was looking at trash.
He smiled somewhat strangely, "It seems you really hate me."
Paige said nothing, and he started talking to himself again, "You love Julian Hawthorne so much, why do you hate me this much? Could it be that I’m really inferior to Julian?"
Paige didn’t even know where he got the courage to compare himself with Julian.
Didn’t he know that love is blind?
No matter how many flaws Julian had, in her eyes, he certainly had none.
Paige didn’t respond, and Henry didn’t speak any further. The atmosphere in the car seemed to become even colder.
The driver didn’t dare speak, he just increased the speed, and the two cars following also sped up.
But just then, the sound of a gunshot suddenly broke the night’s silence.
Henry’s expression immediately turned somber. Soon, people from the cars in front and behind and the pursuers started a fierce fight, and Henry’s car, being protected in the middle, had its tires shot out, forcing it to stop.
Henry chuckled, "I didn’t expect them to catch up so quickly. Are you happy now?"
He continued, "Unfortunately, your happiness will be short-lived. If I can only escape to this point, don’t worry, if I die, I’ll take you with me."
Destroying what one can’t have to prevent others from getting it was his principle.
But soon, Henry realized the pursuers weren’t Julian or government people, but rather... people from the underworld.
People who intended to kill him.
In this situation, Paige was also in danger.
Moreover, they didn’t have more people than the enemy.
Henry didn’t hesitate any longer; he let the others intercept those people while he took Paige and quickly dived into the forest under the cover of darkness.
Soon, people were on their trail—it was the enemies.
Henry, carrying Paige, couldn’t outrun them.
He hid Paige in a tall bush and said, "Stay here and don’t make a sound. I’ll lead them away and come back for you."
It’s often said that true feelings emerge in times of crisis. Henry thought Paige might be somewhat touched by his actions.
But unexpectedly, Paige’s face remained cold as ever, "Aren’t you going yet? They’re about to catch up."
Those people were after Henry, nothing to do with her.
Henry was at a loss for words, "You’re making me not want to leave at all."
So he shamelessly hid with Paige in the bushes.
And Paige remained expressionless, leaving Henry clueless about how to get any change in expression from her face.
The enemies, fearing a counterattack, didn’t use flashlights, instead moving through the forest by the faint light available.
This made it hard for them to see the surroundings clearly.
As a result, they didn’t notice the two hiding in the bushes and quickly walked past them.
Henry thus gathered information about the pursuers—there were three people.
It wouldn’t be difficult for Henry to deal with these three.
Henry began looking for opportunities, firing from different spots and successfully took down two of them.
The smell of blood was strong, almost pervading the entire forest.
Henry said, "Wait a bit longer, once I find the third person, we’ll be safe."
Just then, he suddenly saw Paige fall backward quickly.
She was weak and could only fall to the ground.
Henry hadn’t realized danger was near. By the time he did, it was too late—his shoulder got shot.
The incident did, however, reveal the shooter’s position to him. Ignoring his own wound, he quickly fired back.
The last pursuer was eliminated as well.
But Henry himself was injured, looking helplessly at Paige.
Paige’s sense of danger was truly sharp.
"Now that we’re in the same boat, if something happens to me, you might end up dying here, didn’t you think of warning me?"
Paige lay silent on the ground, not saying a word.
Henry looked helpless. He was injured now, making the escape with Paige even more dangerous.
But he knew himself well enough to understand he couldn’t leave Paige behind.
And Paige knew this too, so she wasn’t worried at all, neglecting Henry.
Henry barely managed to bandage his wound to prevent excessive blood loss, then resumed carrying Paige.
They had been running wildly, not thinking about direction, and the forest was large. It was nighttime, so finding the right way was even harder.
Henry was almost moving forward based on instinct.
But fortunately, his instincts didn’t fail him.
After an unknown period of walking, he finally saw a glimmer of light.
On the mountainside outside the forest, there seemed to be a few households.
Henry headed toward the nearest light and arrived in front of a small house.
