Chapter 96: Chapter 96: An Improper Place_1

Li Qing didn’t need to harbor any doubts, this was definitely Hu Youyu’s doing!

In the entire village, the only real enemies he had were Hu Youyu and Tian Laowu.

Taking Tian Laowu’s character into account, he might be capable of pulling something like this off.

But he had been quiet lately and hadn’t been looking for trouble with Li Qing.

It was improbable that he would choose today of all days to throw manure at his front door!

As for Hu Youyu, Li Qing had not only seen him today but also had a verbal spat with him.

Without a doubt, it was him!

Angered to the point of pacing in circles around the room, Li Qing stormed out and grabbed the ax from the woodshed, then after some thought, put it back.

A sneak attack needed careful planning.

There was no way he could pull it off tonight.

But the anger was lodged in his throat, making his head spin and his brain swell—it was unbearable to not take action against Hu Youyu right now.

Out of the blue, Li Qing suddenly remembered the chubby man who had beaten him up that night.

Seemed his name was Brother something or another.

If Hu Youyu could hire people to beat him, why couldn’t he hire people to return the favor?

Perhaps, Hu Youyu relied on his personal connections.

But he, on the other hand, could spend money!

Nobody would want to make an enemy of money, right?

At that thought, Li Qing didn’t even bother with the filth splashed on his door and left the house with his money.

One of his high school classmates had been involved with some hoodlums while in school.

After graduation, Li Qing had been accepted into a college but never attended.

The other guy, on the other hand, had ranked at the bottom of the entire school and hadn’t been accepted into any college; now, he was rumored to be hanging out in the county town.

Li Qing, however, had always preferred to keep his distance from such riffraff and scarcely kept in touch after graduating.

But now, Li Qing wanted to find him!

Taking advantage of the night, Li Qing drove straight to the county town and called his classmate named Sun Haohao.

"Such a busy man, our Li Qing is. What made you think of me today?"

As the call connected, a voice that seemed wise beyond its years came through.

"I need a favor, got time to meet up?" Li Qing cut straight to the chase.

"You’re really direct. Where are you? I’ll come to you!" Sun Haohao said with a laugh and a curse.

"Just entered town, I’m near the bridgehead," Li Qing replied.

"Wait up, I’ll be right there!"

After hanging up, Li Qing waited for a good half hour until a little electric scooter pulled up.

"Brother Qingzi, the east wind this summer really did a number on you, blowing you right into giving me a call," Sun Haohao said as he got off, offering a cigarette with a smile and a jest.

"I don’t smoke." Li Qing declined Sun Haohao’s offer, sizing him up and down at the same time.

He seemed the same as Li Qing remembered him.

With his self-proclaimed handsome flowing hair, he just seemed to have put on some weight, especially around the belly, which was particularly prominent.

"Don’t bother looking, it’s from drinking," Sun Haohao said, patting his belly, "Spill it, what do you need me for?"

"I heard after you left school, you did some big things out in society?" Li Qing inquired.

Sun Haohao burst out laughing, "Big things my ass, just scraping by day by day."

"Can you find some men to take care of an old guy for me?" Li Qing asked directly. "I’ll pay!"

"Pay what? For such a small task, I’ll do it myself!" Sun Haohao said, thumping his chest.

Li Qing shook his head, "Never mind, I wouldn’t want to drag you into it. That old fellow has some connections. If he recognizes you, your family won’t know peace ever again. Better to hire outsiders, safer that way. Even if there’s trouble, it won’t fall back on us."

After explaining, Li Qing quickly added more detail to avoid any misunderstanding.

"Alright then, let’s go. I’ll take you to meet someone," Sun Haohao said after considering, nodding in agreement.

Li Qing locked up his tricycle after moving it aside, and got onto Sun Haohao’s little electric scooter.

On the way, he roughly explained his grievances with Hu Youyu to Sun Haohao.

"Damn, it’s him? Then I really can’t get involved," Sun Haohao cursed upon hearing it was Hu Youyu, "I’ve heard a lot about that old bastard too. Not that I’m afraid of him, but I dread him messing with my family, that’s the real trouble."

"That’s exactly what I mean." Li Qing said.

Sun Haohao nodded and led Li Qing through the streets and alleys until they stopped at a place that looked shady from the outside but turned out to be a restaurant inside.

"Here we are, don’t just blurt out anything once we’re in. I’ll speak for you," Sun Haohao instructed before they entered.

Li Qing nodded.

It was his first time dealing with such people, and he felt a bit nervous.

Sun Haohao led the way in front, heading straight to the fourth floor.

The fourth floor wasn’t a restaurant anymore, it looked more like a bar.

The singing inside was thunderous and the crowd’s voices loud, with quite a few scantily clad women weaving between each seating booth.

"What kind of place is this?" Li Qing was curious.

Sun Haohao chuckled lewdly, "If you’ve got no issues later, you could sit around here for a bit."

"Just stay seated for a while, and you’ll figure out what this place is for."

From Sun Haohao’s expression and the look of the place, Li Qing sensed it wasn’t exactly a respectable establishment.

Sun Haohao opened a door and led Li Qing inside.

There sat five or six burly men; Sun Haohao was head-nodding and bowing as he greeted them, distributing cigarettes all around.

"Xiao Haozi, who’s this?"

Behind the tea table, a man wearing frameless glasses looked up and asked.

"Lü Zong, this is my good brother Li Qing. He’s run into some trouble and was hoping to seek Lü Zong’s help, with pay." Sun Haohao said with a full smile, courteously speaking.

After that, he laid out again the whole story of Li Qing’s run-ins with Hu Youyu, pulling no punches.

Li Qing observed the room’s occupants and quietly squeezed the money in his pocket.

The lavish decor, the fierce-looking men.

He suddenly felt that the four thousand yuan in his pocket seemed a little pitiful.

"You’re saying he takes on contracts for land and doesn’t pay up? Then why do you keep leasing to him every year?" Lü Zong asked with a half-smile.

That man gave Li Qing a chill down his spine. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

It seemed as though the man, now smiling, could grab the wine bottle off the table at any second to smash open his skull.

"No choice, he’s the only one doing contracts nearby. He doesn’t dare stiff everyone, just squeezes the softest fruit each year," Li Qing explained.
