The Happy Farmer Wanderer-Chapter 156: The Top Leader in the Town_1
"Am I spouting nonsense?"
Ding Sanyou glared with his uneven eyes, turned his head, and stared dead at Kong Zhenggang, "Five years? Do you think five years is a walk in the park?"
"You want to cause trouble for others, but when something goes wrong, I’m the one who has to take the fall. What a great plan you’ve concocted, Kong Zhenggang!"
"Since you say it was me who approached you, where’s the evidence? This is a police station, where facts are proven with evidence. Bring out the evidence when you speak!" Kong Zhenggang suddenly spread his hands and smiled wickedly.
In a fit of rage, Ding Sanyou took out five hundred yuan from his pocket and slammed it onto the table, "This is the money you gave me!"
"It doesn’t seem like my name is written on this money, and even if it were, that wouldn’t prove it’s mine, right? Let’s take a step back, even if I did give you the money, that doesn’t necessarily prove it was me who hired you to harm someone!" Kong Zhenggang spoke nonchalantly, seemingly without fear.
Ding Sanyou was dumbfounded.
He looked towards Officer Wang with eyes begging for help, "Officer, I swear I’m telling the absolute truth. It was he who found us!"
Officer Wang pinched his forehead and said, "First, detain Ding Sanyou and his accomplices."
"Officer, how can you also side with Kong Zhenggang?" Ding Sanyou roared in anger.
Officer Wang gave him a cold look, "If you have evidence to prove that Kong Zhenggang hired hitmen, I can detain him. These five hundred yuan really can’t prove anything."
Ding Sanyou’s face suddenly turned pale as if he had lost everything.
"Kong Zhenggang, you son of a bitch, just you wait until I get out. I swear I’ll kill your entire family!" Completely enraged, Ding Sanyou hysterically yelled at Kong Zhenggang.
Kong Zhenggang’s mouth curled into a sinister smile and he waved his hand dismissively at Ding Sanyou.
The mocking, arrogant expression made Li Qing’s blood boil.
He didn’t care about compensation; all he wanted was for Kong Zhenggang to spend a few years behind bars.
But from the looks of it, Ding Sanyou, the scapegoat, would surely serve some time in jail, while Kong Zhenggang, the mastermind, would likely escape punishment and continue his carefree ways.
Just then, a middle-aged man in a suit appeared at the door.
"Officer Wang, is there a major case here? There’s no need to tell me if it’s inconvenient—I was just passing by and saw the crowd, so I came in to casually ask," the man said.
Officer Wang glanced at the crowded conference room and felt a headache coming on.
The scene was indeed grand!
"Secretary Zhou, it’s nothing I can’t talk about. It’s no major case, but the nature is pretty heinous," Officer Wang said.
Upon hearing this, Secretary Zhou stepped inside.
His dignified gaze swept across the conference room, and his expression instantly turned stern.
"All familiar faces!"
"They’re all notable figures from Sanhe Town. The nephew of Old Kong the Third, Gong Wugu, and this little rascal, Ding Sanyou. Officer Wang, today you seem to have rounded up all the scourges of Sanhe Town!" Secretary Zhou said with a cold voice, then asked Officer Wang, "What crime have they committed?"
"Affray, but they didn’t actually fight," Officer Wang said, "Ding Sanyou took action by throwing acid on someone’s car, damaging other people’s property. The circumstances are rather severe."
"Tsk tsk, they really give our Sanhe Town a good reputation," Secretary Zhou snorted coldly.
"Officer Wang, in my mind, they’ve always been the epitome of Sanhe Town’s criminal underworld. The higher-ups are hitting hard, and we’re in the middle of a campaign against gangs and eliminating evil. This case must be handled sternly—take this opportunity to decisively quell their audaciousness," he said.
"Later, I will use this case as an example for the entire town in a notice, to thoroughly eradicate this twisted influence!"
Officer Wang gave a wry smile and said to Secretary Zhou, "Secretary, let’s talk outside."
Secretary Zhou nodded, understanding, and led the way out.
After Secretary Zhou and Officer Wang had left, Li Qing asked Gong Wugu nervously in a low voice, "Brother Gong, why does it sound like even you might be implicated in this?"
Gong Brother gave a faint smile, "No, the town usually has no authority to interfere with the judicial process. At most, if I were to get involved this time, it would only count as a fight. Better yet, it could be considered self-defense."
"It’s just because of some of my past deeds that our town’s number one Secretary has developed a bit of a prejudice against me."
It was then that Li Qing felt relieved; he never knew that Gong Brother was also from Sanhe Town.
And he was an established figure of Sanhe Town, no less.
Not only did the police officers at the station know him, but so did everyone in the town.
"So you mean, they won’t have any trouble?" Li Qing glanced at Kong Zhenggang and asked in a low voice.
Gong Brother also felt some regret, "There’s no way around it unless Ding Sanyou can produce evidence. Otherwise, Kong Zhenggang will at most be detained for three to five days. That Ding Sanyou is foolish; sulfuric acid is a controlled substance, and he didn’t even leave any evidence."
"Kong Zhenggang won’t have much of a problem, but Ding Sanyou will definitely not get off lightly."
"However, you don’t need to be too nervous. Even if there’s no evidence this time to directly prove that Kong Zhenggang hired someone to assault, he will certainly become a person of interest to the police station. He’ll have to weigh his actions a bit more carefully from now on."
Li Qing didn’t see it that way.
Looking at Kong Zhenggang’s behavior, even in the police station, he acted as if he was above the law.
How could he possibly restrain himself because of the police station’s special attention?
Getting tangled up with such a person was genuinely making Li Qing nervous.
Before long, Officer Wang walked in, but Secretary Zhou was nowhere to be seen.
"Li Qing, step outside for a moment!" Officer Wang said.
Li Qing was somewhat puzzled.
After stepping out, he saw Secretary Zhou waiting in the hallway.
"You’re Li Qing?" Secretary Zhou extended his hand to Li Qing.
Li Qing nodded and shook hands with Secretary Zhou somewhat stiffly.
It was his first time shaking hands with an official, and the sensation was as nerve-wracking as the first time he saw his sister-in-law’s full figure, making him somewhat anxious.
"Don’t be nervous, I just want to have a casual word with you," Secretary Zhou said with a chuckle, noticing Li Qing’s discomfort.
Li Qing nodded again and looked at Secretary Zhou.
"I just heard from Officer Wang that you’re in the Wenguan Leaves business," Secretary Zhou asked kindly.
Li Qing still nodded.
"And that Gong Wugu, the old bully from our Sanhe Town, is he working for you?" Secretary Zhou asked further.
Li Qing nodded again but quickly shook his head, explaining, "You’ve misunderstood, Secretary Zhou. He’s not working for me, it’s more like a partnership."
"I know, I know," Secretary Zhou waved his hand, "If he can mend his ways, that takes a load off my mind."
"These ancestors of Sanhe Town make my seat shaky every now and then, it’s really exhausting."
"But often, without concrete evidence, I can’t send them away for a good education."
"With Gong Wugu’s case, you’ve done a good deed for Sanhe Town. Otherwise, I couldn’t even show my face in front of Officer Wang and the others today."
Li Qing was utterly confused.
What on earth are you trying to do?
Can’t you make it clear?
Even if I have to die, at least let me understand why.
