The Happy Farmer Wanderer-Chapter 140 Little Jade Beauty is Yu Lan_1
Shi Liang finished his half of the watermelon and then drove off in his double-cab truck, agreeing to return to the village in three days.
Li Qing, meanwhile, strolled casually into the general store.
Having sat at the doorway for so long, he had to come in to look around—otherwise, Auntie Caili might get quite upset again.
After entering, Li Qing was surprised to find that Yu Lan was also there.
Compared to usual, he looked leaner, but his complexion was good, and there was an extra hint of a smile on his face.
"Auntie Yu Lan is here too?"
Li Qing greeted her with a smile, his gaze demure yet bold as he deliberately glanced at her trembling chest.
Yu Lan’s cheeks flushed with a touch of shyness, and she touched her fair neck with her right hand, feigning composure as she said, "I came over to have a chat with your Auntie Caili. Are you here to buy something, Qingzi?"
"I’m buying... some ice creams," replied Li Qing, who actually had nothing in mind; he just made it up on the spot.
"I just saw you sitting under a tree with someone for quite a while. What were you talking about?" Auntie Caili peered out from behind the counter, wearing a black slightly translucent dress, and asked with a smile.
"It was a Wenguan Leaves buyer," Li Qing said frankly, "He’s collecting large leaves and tender branches and knew I was doing the same, so he wanted to have a chat about it."
"So Qingzi, you’re also going to start collecting large leaves and tender branches like Hu Youqing?" Auntie Caili asked excitedly.
Li Qing nodded, "I’m offering two yuan more per kilo, thirty-two in total, and the tender leaves are still the same price, collected separately!"
"That’s great news; the villagers should be very happy to hear this," Auntie Caili said animatedly, coyly giving Li Qing a flirtatious look with unrestrained mannerisms.
Sitting to the side, Yu Lan furrowed her brow slightly and said with some concern, "Hu Youqing is also collecting these, won’t there be trouble if you’re paying two yuan more than him?"
"Auntie, when it comes to business, it’s all about one’s own skills in setting prices. He’s hell-bent on doing the same as me, and there’s nothing I can do about it. If he’s willing to go all out, he can also pay thirty-two," Li Qing commented nonchalantly.
Two yuan made a bunch of people happy but displeased one person.
No matter how he calculated it, Li Qing felt that the two yuan was well spent.
"Qingzi, you should still be careful. None of Hu Youyu’s brothers are good news," Yu Lan couldn’t help but say, her voice laced with concern.
"Auntie, I understand," Li Qing said with a smile.
Auntie Caili’s gaze swept back and forth between Li Qing and Yu Lan a couple of times, then teasingly said, "If Yu Lan hadn’t already been married, I would really have tried to matchmake you two—you seem so well suited for each other."
"Auntie Caili, please don’t start matchmaking," Yu Lan said with blushing cheeks and shyly.
A pang struck Li Qing’s heart.
Auntie Caili, watching over this little general store and dealing with people every day, had incredibly sharp eyes.
He was worried that his brief exchange with Yu Lan had given something away to Auntie Caili.
"Auntie Caili, that’s not a joke you can make. If Hu Youyu hears about it, he might be willing to face five more years behind bars just to fight me. Please just get me the ice creams," Li Qing said with self-deprecating humor.
Auntie Caili laughed heartily, "He won’t let those words get to his ears."
"Help yourself to whatever you want; I’m not in the mood to handle frozen goods these days."
Li Qing raised an eyebrow, his eyes revealing a subtly probing intent.
Auntie Caili squeezed her eyes and pressed her hand against her lower abdomen, gently tracing it twice.
Li Qing didn’t actually understand what she meant.
But it probably was something to do with her being on her period or maybe pregnant.
Picking a few ice creams from the freezer, Li Qing paid for them and prepared to leave.
In Auntie Caili’s presence, he didn’t dare to exchange looks with Yu Lan.
If Auntie Caili really noticed something, it’d definitely be the end of me.
"Caili, I should head back now, too. It’s time to cook," Yu Lan said as she got up.
"Take care," Auntie Caili replied with a smile.
Li Qing and Yu Lan left the convenience store one after the other.
Not far from the store, the two walked side by side together.
"Qingzi, you still need to be careful with Hu Youqing," Yu Lan broke the silence first, speaking softly.
"I’ll be on guard. Lan Lan, did you miss me?" Li Qing asked with a grin.
Yu Lan’s cheeks turned pink with a hint of shyness, "Call me Sister Lan, what’s with this ’Lan Lan’? It sounds awful."
"Alright then, did Sister Lan miss me?" Li Qing asked laughingly.
Yu Lan’s charming shyness was inviting; she lowered her head and gently pursed her lips, "Missed..."
"How did you miss me?" Li Qing asked deliberately with a mischievous look.
Instantly, Yu Lan’s face turned even redder, her blush spreading behind her ears, "Stop it, just, just like that - missed being with you..."
"With me... how?" Li Qing held back his laughter, his face full of teasing.
"Ah, we can’t go on talking about this, just like that," Yu Lan stamped her foot and feigned annoyance.
Seeing Yu Lan with such girlish charm, Li Qing’s heart was struck with emotion, and he found himself staring blankly.
So beautiful!
"Stop staring," Yu Lan chided with flushed cheeks, "If someone sees us, we won’t be able to explain ourselves."
Li Qing snapped back to reality and whispered, "I’ll come over tonight."
Yu Lan slightly pursed her lips and nodded softly.
After a while, she whispered, "It just so happens that Xiao Wei isn’t home today."
"Xiao Wei isn’t home?" Li Qing asked in surprise.
Yu Lan nodded, her expression growing slightly complicated, "His father’s incident has taken a big toll on him."
"These past few days, he has obviously lost weight, looking gloomy all the time. Even though he’s not my child, after all, he calls me ’Little Mom,’ and we are to live under the same roof in the future."
"Seeing him like that, I’m also worried. Qingzi, do you have any way to help him?"
This was something Li Qing had planned to address, but it had slipped his mind due to being busy.
Thinking it over, Li Qing said, "I’ll try and see if he can work with me; I’ll find time to talk to him."
"He seems to not want to stay in the village anymore, considering going out to work," Yu Lan said.
"What do you think?" Li Qing asked.
"It’d be best if he could stay in the village. Having a man at home makes one feel more secure," Yu Lan looked gently at Li Qing, "Don’t think too much. There’s no way something could happen between Xiao Wei and me. I only have eyes for you now."
"I naturally trust you," Li Qing felt warmth in his heart at Yu Lan’s words.
That Yu Lan made a point to explain things to him obviously meant she truly cared for him.
"With the things Hu Youyu has done in the village, I’m actually not too comfortable with you living there alone. I’ll look for a chance to talk to Xiao Wei; let’s see what he thinks," Li Qing said.
"Then I’m heading back first. Tonight... we’ll talk more," Yu Lan said bashfully.
Li Qing’s heart couldn’t help but race with excitement.
