The Guy Who Tamed Chickens-Chapter 68: Light Town
The older man on the screen didn’t immediately speak.
He was watering a pot of plants inside a garden, looking relaxed and comfortable.
However, Director Gil didn’t urge him or anything. Like an obedient kid, he stood there, waiting to be noticed.
After a while, the man finally put down the watering can and looked at Director Gil.
Sitting down, like a friendly uncle, he asked, "So tell me, what happened, Gil?"
The attitude and the way he talks to Gil make it apparent that they know each other and have a close relationship.
Immediately, Gil honestly reported what happened at the demonic cave.
He shared everything he learned from his visit to the demonic cave.
Finally, after reaching the end, he bowed his head and said, "The mission failed, Sir. That concludes my report."
Pausing for a second, he added, "...I’m sorry for disappointing your expectations of me."
The man on the screen stared at him for a while, then sighed.
"Gil, from your report, you said that it was a Goblin King who was blessed by the Demon King. Something like that is already outside of your capabilities."
"It hasn’t been that long since dark energy appeared in our world. Despite that, you’re already a Tier 2 adventurer. You’re one of the fastest people to level up in our country."
"As your father, I am very proud of you, Son. I am not disappointed with you. It’s just that you got matched with something that you can handle yet this time."
"You are not a failure, my son."
Hearing all of that, Gil didn’t respond immediately.
Then a few seconds later, he nodded and said, "Thank you... father."
The man on the screen seemed satisfied with that and nodded.
"Good, then now, let’s talk about the more pressing issue."
After saying that, the aura of the man suddenly became more sublime and stern.
It has the same posture as Gil, just multiple times more domineering.
The uncle vibe around him disappeared and was replaced by a sharp man, who’s like a sword hanging on your neck.
Cold. Oppressive.
"Now then, Director Gil, what do you think should be our next course of action for Porac City?"
Hearing that he’s been called in his position and not just his name, Gil also got back to his role.
After a moment of silence, Gil started speaking.
"Sir, I think we should call for more reinforcement to Porac City. Not just people from our world. Bring some from Famigcia too."
"With a Goblin King blessed by the Demon King already present, the demons will soon appear in Batalan Forest."
After pausing for a second, he continued, "The current military capabilities of Porac City will not be able to resist their invasion when that comes. The adventurers of Porac City still can’t handle them."
"If things stay as it is, it will be a matter of time before Porac City collapses, along with its citizens."
After saying all of that, Director Gil looked at the man, his father, intently.
The two of them stared at each other for a while.
Then the man on the screen finally nodded after a while.
"Okay, I get it. I will see what I can do."
Hearing that, joy immediately flashed in Gil’s eyes.
"Thank you, Father!"
"Okay, I will leave everything up to you on that side, Gil."
The man nodded for the last time, then the call ended.
Standing alone inside the quiet room, Gil clenched his fist with determination.
With light in his eyes, he left the room and went back to his office, where the team was still resting.
They can’t continue resting anymore. With the demons threatening the safety of Porac City, they can only stand up again and continue.
This time, they have a new mission.
...
On another road leading out of Porac City.
Kyson is riding his motorcycle, with a bright smile on his face, heading out of the .
"It’s been a long time since I last saw them. I wonder how they are now."
Thinking about meeting his family, Kyson can’t help but be filled with anticipation.
Right now, Kyson is on the road to Mandilla City.
Dozens of minutes ago, Kyson packed his stuff as soon as he reached his house and started packing.
However, he didn’t pack a lot of things. Just a few sets of clothes and some other necessary things.
Then, without hesitation, he threw all of it inside Chicky’s beast space and went on the road.
Thanks to the fact that he can place things inside their beast space, Kyson can travel light.
It is a big help for him, whose only means of traveling at the moment is by motorcycle.
So, feeling relaxed, Kyson drove out of Porac City.
But just then, his ears twitched and he frowned.
Turning his head to look in the direction of the Batalan Forest, he could feel heavy pressure suddenly erupting from that direction.
Like thunder, it’s filled with oppressive force that directly chokes you in the neck.
"That seems to be the direction of the demon cave..."
"Did Director Gil and the others fail?"
When this thought comes to his mind, Kyson can’t help but feel uncomfortable.
For a moment, he even had the thought of turning back around to see what had happened.
If the mission really failed, with his current strength, there should be something he can do to help.
But in the end, Kyson still shook his head.
"No, I can’t turn back now. I will go to Mandilla City first, I need to see my family."
With the situation becoming dangerous, Kyson knows he doesn’t have the time at the moment to worry about others.
Instead, he should check the situation of his parents and siblings.
Even though it’s been a long time since they last met, that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t love them.
It is only because he is not capable enough to face them all this time that’s why he’s been distant with them.
But now that he has his own strength now, he wants to prioritize his family before anything else.
So with that thought, Kyson twisted the throttle and, like an arrow out of the strings, the motorcycle shot out at full power.
As for Porac City, Kyson decided to leave it up to Director Gil and the others.
...
In the past, the distance from Porac City could be traversed in just 3 to 4 hours.
But after the merger of the two worlds, the geological situation all over the world experienced various changes.
Now, the original path to Mandilla is filled with various towns and villages that Kyson is not familiar with.
This made the distance between the two places widen a lot.
Now, 6 hours after he left Porac City, Kyson still hasn’t arrived at Mandilla City.
Thankfully, the government has already launched a map mobile application that is connected with the satellite in space.
With it, Kyson and other adventurers could still travel around without worrying about getting lost.
By looking at it, Kyson can see that he will reach Mandilla City after travelling ten more hours at his current speed.
But looking at the setting sun on the horizon, Kyson knows that he can’t continue anymore.
"The sun is about to set. They said monsters become more violent when the dark descends. I should stop here for now."
Thankfully, based on the map, there’s a town nearby that he can go to pass the night.
Without wasting time, Kyson drove his motorcycle to the town.
Passing by the entrance, Kyson glanced at the name above.
"Light Town, huh."
Muttering its name, he slowed down his speed as he headed inside.
Glancing around the town, Kyson immediately noticed the depressed mood.
At the same time, the whole town actually looks old and dilapidated, as if left behind for a long time.
Frowning, he kept silent and continued moving.
His sudden appearance immediately attracted the attention of other people in town.
Their gazes gathered on him and on the ’monster’ mount he’s riding.
Those hollow eyes, devoid of any thoughts, made Kyson feel scared for some reason.
Ignoring them, he drove around and finally found a decent-looking inn near the center of the town.
Parking his motorcycle on the side, Kyson stepped down from it and looked at the establishment in front of him.
"Vibrant Inn... Hahaha, what a name for an inn inside the Light Town."
Chuckling, Kyson moved forward and opened the door.
Cling~ cling~
The bells hanging above the door sounded with a cheerful ring, signalling that a new customer had come.
But instead of a cheerful welcome, Kyson was met with silence.
When he went in and saw the situation inside, the frown on his face couldn’t help but deepen.
All people inside the inn actually have the same hollowed look on their faces, looking haggard and lifeless.
From the customers to the staff, without fail, all of them have the same look on their faces.
Narrowing his eyes, a thought immediately flashed inside Kyson’s mind.
’There’s something wrong with this place.
