Chapter 1183: Chapter 5: The Person Female Students Most Want to OOXX_3
After enduring for a while, the two little ones finally couldn’t take it anymore. They took a big bite of the small cake and candied fruit hidden in their backpack, trying to suppress the salty and fishy taste of the fish sauce in their mouths.
However, the taste in their mouths was considerably diluted. Tining, in pursuit of excitement, was somewhat dissatisfied and immediately took out a Nordic food she had secretly bought from the market.
The person who sold it to her said this stuff was called salted herring.
Smelly to smell, delicious to eat, it is a top-notch Nordic specialty.
With full anticipation, Tining opened her mouth, linked the space, and began the official tasting.
Instantly, a mixed aroma of spoiled seafood, pungent ammonia, and rotten eggs filled her nostrils first, the fishy saltiness carrying a sewer-like sour decay, quite overpowering, causing a subtle dizziness in Tining’s mind.
Upon entering her mouth, the soft but springy fish meat crushed between her teeth, the intense salty flavor first occupying the taste buds, followed by the unique sour bitterness from fermentation. The fish skin was slightly tough, the fish bones had softened like cartilage, and the sticky silver fish oil was wrapping the salty bitterness of sea salt, forming a bizarre balance with the lingering fishy smell in the nostrils, with a faint cheese fermentation scent as an aftertaste.
Unexpectedly delicious!
Having resisted the first wave of assault, Tining, as if discovering new heavens, her eyes lit up and couldn’t help but sneak another taste.
"Bang!"
At this very moment, the two small figures could no longer stand, their eyes rolled back, and they fell heavily to the ground.
"What happened to you guys!"
Nero and Cassandra quickly helped the two classmates up, inquiring with concern.
The two little ones struggled to open their eyelids, their voices trembling, tears hanging in their watery eyes:
"The culprit is... Tining..."
"She’s so malicious!"
Upon hearing their partners’ accusations, Tining looked up, bewildered:
"What?"
And as soon as she opened her mouth, a strong smell came rushing at them.
Pervasive rot like a fishing net exposed to the blazing sun, infused with the silty tide of a dead bay. The penetrating sour rot from fermented bacteria was amazingly strong, like a rusted anchor dredged up from the seabed’s mud, suspect egg and excrement smell tangled in the nostrils like sea monster tentacles—the salinity of pickled sea salt one second, exploding into the decay of rotten fish intestines the next, with a moldy dampness as an aftertaste, much like the rotting wood of a submerged ship cargo hold leaking water. This stench could coagulate in the air into a glutinous substance, adhering in clothing fibers for three days without vanishing, more stubbornly etched into memory than the Nordic winter, becoming a permanent nightmare on the olfactory map.
Nero held his nose tightly, looking at his classmate with disbelief:
"You actually ate shit!"
On the other side, Cassandra, although she refrained from speaking directly based on decorum, her odd expression and the backwards steps clearly suggested she probably had the same thought.
"What are you talking about, this is salted herring! A Nordic specialty that the teacher mentioned in class before, it’s really tasty."
Tining quickly defended herself.
To enhance her persuasion, she even reluctantly took out a few seemingly fine pieces of salted herring from the jar, attempting to offer them to the four for tasting:
"If you don’t believe me, try it yourself."
The four looked over to see the sticky liquid stretching into silver threads, greyish fish pieces stacked twistedly in the amber-colored fermenting juice, fish skins gleaming with metallic cold light, half-transparent cartilage pinning through the soft flesh like rusted nails on a sunken ship...
Facing such what can be described as a cult-food, no one dared to try, and they all retreated, expressing their refusal.
"Truly, it’s really delicious, I’m not lying to you!"
Tining, clutching the earthenware jar in one hand and pinching a piece of salted herring with the other, energetically marketed her product.
Nonetheless, the four quickly evaded, unwilling to comply.
Even the two other semi-conscious Children of Fate lying on the ground scrambled up in haste under the threat of this biochemical weapon, hurriedly shrinking behind Cassandra.
Nero, with his harsh mouth, directly evaluated:
"If you love eating shit yourself, it’s fine, but dragging us along? Tining was right, you’re too malicious!"
Seeing the increasingly bizarre gaze everyone directed at her, Tining grew anxious and immediately pursued the group, holding up the salted herring meat, attempting to force it into their mouths, to vindicate herself:
"Just taste it, just a little bite, it’s really delicious, believe me!"
Facing Tining’s relentless approach, the four, cornered to the wall, unwilling to be humiliated, could only fight back.
After a contention, the fish meat and earthenware jar flew high, smashing towards Luo En, who was ready to enter the room for class.
Luo En instinctively activated the defensive charm, shattering the unidentified flying object.
In an instant, the fishy rotten soup and slices of milky white salted herring scattered, soaking the Three Sons of Destiny, Nero, and Cassandra, and the strong stench spread throughout the classroom.
The five were stunned for a few seconds, then simultaneously bent over, squatted on the ground, and vomited profusely, even Tining who had tasted it was no exception.
After all, eating and smelling are two different things.
"In broad daylight, what can you eat, why must you gather to eat salted herring."
Gazing at the mess in the classroom, Luo En couldn’t help but sigh,
"Forget it, today’s lesson will pause here, let Cassandra take you to have a bath, the course will resume tomorrow."
The four big, one small, like granted amnesty, hurriedly escaped the classroom that almost turned into a public toilet, diving into the bathroom to wash their bodies.
Yet, whether due to psychological factors or the overwhelming impact of the salted herring, the five washed several times but still felt residual scents lingering.
However, as the house was replacing the previous lead pipes, water storage was not ample, so the five were forced to hurriedly end their bath.
Seeing their somewhat sluggish demeanor, probably uninterested in attending class, Luo En reluctantly proposed: freёnovelkiss-com
"I remember there are quite a few public baths in Rome. Since today’s lesson can’t proceed, why not explore them?"
"Good!"
The eyes of the five lit up, nodding unanimously in agreement.
After delegating the cleaning work to the maid, Luo En and the group of six students stepped out of the private estate on the Seven Hills and proceeded into Rome.
On the road, voices flourished, with young people in splendid attire everywhere, couples holding hands for dates, and noblewomen adorned in groups watching flowers.
And Romanians fond of excitement, some among the upper class, grouping at home to invite friends for a feast; others, economically constrained, diving into taverns, drinking affordable malt wine to reward themselves.
The opera house, arena, and other venues opened early, full of guests.
Part of well-dressed Romans gradually gathered towards the Palatine Hill in the center of the Seven Hills, climbing the marble-paved steps with a near pilgrimage posture, worshipping and offering gifts to the goddess Venus in the Pantheon.
The entire city seemed to plunge into some kind of festive ocean.
