The Grants: Choosing One Between The Two-Chapter 209: Yvette Aston Says She Has No Mother
"Wasn’t this your doing?" Caden Summers sneered. "I’ve already called the police, they’ll be here soon. You have to undergo investigation, and if my boss wants to pursue this, you’ll be held criminally responsible."
"Caden! I’m your mother!" May Larson looked at Caden in shock.
Caden was silent for a long time before he spoke again. "Just because you’re my mother, do you think the police will let you escape legal repercussions?"
May was left speechless by Caden’s retort.
"Instead of raging because you’re my mother, you should reflect on yourself. Why would you want to go back to jail right after getting out?"
Soon after Caden spoke, the nearby patrol officers arrived.
"She caused trouble here and even hit people. We have surveillance footage," said the company’s security hastily.
The police took May away, and the other relatives had long disappeared.
The company finally quieted down.
Michelle Lockwood stood there watching Caden, feeling inexplicably saddened.
Caden said nothing and took Michelle out of the company. He went to a roadside shop to buy a little pudding ice cream, wrapped it in a napkin, and applied it to her face as an ice pack.
Throughout, he didn’t say a word.
Michelle felt inexplicably uneasy.
Caden suddenly seemed too proactive, even helping her ice her face.
"Um..." Michelle didn’t know what to say.
"You’ve seen how my family is, we’re like parasites at the bottom, leeches in the sewer — disgusting and bloodsucking," Caden said sarcastically.
Michelle felt a pang in her heart, unsure of what to say.
"I’m sorry... my mother hurt you. Name an amount for the compensation, and I’ll do my best to get it for you as soon as possible." Caden wanted to buy some time.
"Caden, I just wanted to help you, so your mother doesn’t cause more trouble." Michelle was a bit flustered, afraid she’d touched Caden’s ego.
"I know, but right is right. You got hurt, and I should compensate. I can stay by your side for a year without taking a salary. You can ask me to do anything..." Caden’s voice was gentle, unlike his usual cold demeanor.
Perhaps it was Michelle standing there, taking the slap for him that moved him?
Michelle’s eyes lit up. "Anything?"
The thought of Caden doing anything pleased Michelle.
Caden knew exactly what Michelle wanted.
Michelle had never been shy about stating in front of her family’s bodyguards and butlers that she wanted to sleep with him...
Caden found the games of the wealthy insulting to his dignity.
But if it was Michelle, even if it was just a fleeting fancy, it didn’t matter...
After a long silence, Caden nodded. "Yes."
"What? Suddenly enlightened? Have I touched you?" Michelle excitedly hugged Caden’s arm, nuzzling into his embrace. The slap felt worthwhile.
"After a year... let me leave." Caden spoke again.
Michelle’s grip on Caden’s hand froze instantly and she pulled away from him abruptly.
She had known Caden would have conditions.
Suddenly a bit angry, but Michelle didn’t know why she was angry. "Are you really that unwilling to be with me?"
Caden said nothing.
"Is it because your heart’s with your ex-girlfriend? Your unattainable love, your first love?" Michelle interrogated Caden.
Caden still said nothing.
"Do you really think I crave you? Go away." Michelle turned and walked off.
Caden followed behind her, not too close, not too far, protecting her.
Michelle got into her car furiously and sped off.
"Michelle Lockwood!" Caden frowned, worried, and hailed a cab to follow her.
When he first met Michelle, Caden thought she was spoiled, a reckless wealthy girl who didn’t care about consequences.
Now, as Michelle drove recklessly and overtook other cars in a fit of anger, Caden felt inexplicable heartache.
She was the eldest daughter of the Lockwood family, yet she had no true friends, no family that genuinely cared for her, no one she could truly trust.
Michelle was kind-hearted and sharp-tongued but undoubtedly a good woman.
"Driver, follow that car, please." Caden was feeling anxious and a little regretful.
Even though he thought he understood Michelle well, why did he still provoke her?
A year later, or when she got bored, she would leave on her own.
Caden knew that with Michelle’s personality, you had to cater to her whims.
"Is that your friend? That driving is way too reckless; there could be an accident." The taxi driver thought his driving skills were decent, but he almost lost track.
"Driver, please go faster."
Caden was getting anxious.
"Bang!" Suddenly, there was a car accident ahead, causing a traffic jam.
Michelle didn’t brake in time and crashed into the car in front of her.
The car behind also failed to stop in time and crashed into the back of Michelle’s car...
Five cars collided in succession.
Caden’s heart leapt to his throat. After the driver parked the cab, he frantically opened the door and rushed out, his heart almost jumping out.
"Michelle..."
"Michelle Lockwood!"
Caden felt like he was losing his mind, truly losing it.
He dared not imagine what his state would be if something happened to Michelle.
"You’re worried about me..." Michelle was stuck in the driver’s seat, her head was bruised and bleeding a bit. But it didn’t look too serious since the airbag hadn’t deployed.
Caden’s voice trembled as he forcibly pulled open the car door and held her out, hugging her tightly.
Michelle’s eyes reddened as she asked him again. "Are you worried because I’m your boss or just because I’m Michelle Lockwood..."
Caden’s grip on Michelle slowly loosened, saying nothing.
Michelle didn’t ask further, feeling a mix of emotions.
Caden understood Michelle, and Michelle understood Caden.
Pushing someone too hard would make them run away, so she could only resort to using her charm.
"My head’s dizzy, and it hurts. I feel a bit nauseous." Michelle leaned on Caden’s shoulder. "It hurts..."
Caden was at a loss. "I’ll take you to the hospital."
"Just hold me..." Michelle clung tightly to Caden’s neck.
Caden’s hand stiffened.
"You said you’d do anything this year, but you won’t even hold me. Would you mind sharing the bed?" Michelle teased.
"..." Caden really wanted to cover Michelle’s mouth. The traffic police were here, so many people were around, and she was truly daring.
"Will you?" Michelle insisted.
"Shut up..." Caden helplessly covered Michelle’s mouth. "Let’s go to the hospital first. Let them handle it."
"Hmm." Michelle clung to Caden, pouting as he carried her away.
...
Police station.
The police took May away, and Michelle didn’t press charges, but family members were required for bail.
May was furious, and unable to reach Caden, she had to contact Yvette Aston.
"Miss Aston, your mother is at Westlin Street Police Station, could you..."
"I don’t have a mother." Yvette interrupted the officer.
The officer paused, looking back at May. "Sorry, wrong number."
After hanging up, the officer looked at May. "The number’s incorrect."
May was stunned. "Impossible! That’s the number, that little brat said you called the wrong number?"
