The Golden Age of Basketball-Chapter 308 - 47 Sudden Death_2
"Are you guys fucking playing soccer out there? Can’t even score!" Gan Guoyang demanded.
"I’m so tired I could puke," Drexler complained.
He had slept the least and the worst last night.
The guy loved to sleep, and not getting enough rest was really uncomfortable for him.
However, Drexler’s performance tonight was outstanding, and he was giving it his all.
"Don’t worry, I’m on now, things will get better."
The game entered its final decisive moments, and though the Trail Blazers were exhausted, their morale was high.
The Bucks were trying to complete a sweep of the Trail Blazers, defending their home court.
As soon as Gan Guoyang stepped on the court, Cummings immediately stuck to him, and the Bucks’ defensive attention was all focused on Gan Guoyang.
The Trail Blazers spread out on all sides, using outside passing to create one-on-one space in the low post for Gan Guoyang.
Paul Mokeski moved to the strong side, using his long arms to constantly disrupt.
Vandeweghe passed the ball to Gan Guoyang, and Mokeski immediately stepped inside the three-point line, double-teaming Gan Guoyang.
Gan Guoyang quickly passed the ball out to Vandeweghe, who instantly took the shot upon receiving and hit the two-pointer!
"Double-teaming me is useless, you should try a different move!" Gan Guoyang yelled at Mokeski.
"At least we can’t let you shoot!" Mokeski retorted stubbornly.
Falling into a set play, the Bucks didn’t have many options, with Cummings trying in vain to power through Gan Guoyang in the low post.
After a struggle, he gave up, and Moncrief received the ball on the outside, accelerating through the middle for a drive, passing it to Pierce on the wing.
Pierce tried another three-pointer that missed, and Gan Guoyang grabbed the defensive rebound, leading the Trail Blazers’ counterattack.
But Drexler’s ball drive was intercepted by Pressey.
The guy’s long arms often made defenders underestimate them, thinking they wouldn’t be intercepted.
With the steal, Pressey accelerated down the middle, but Gan Guoyang covered him up.
Pressey made a no-look behind-the-back pass to Mokeski.
Mokeski attempted a dunk but was blocked by Gan Guoyang with a turn!
A classic one-on-two defense, but the referee called a defensive foul on the play.
Gan Guoyang couldn’t be bothered to complain to the referee; the MECCA Center was unbearably hot, and nobody felt like talking.
In January, Milwaukee’s weather is cold, but as the game went on and thousands of people gathered in the stadium, the generated heat made the indoor temperature rise.
Hig temperatures were one factor, but mainly, this old stadium was not ventilated to retain warmth, and the venue was small, making it feel very stuffy.
"Motherfucker, did some idiot turn off the air conditioning?" Gan Guoyang grumbled.
Mokeski hit the first free throw, smiling and telling Gan Guoyang, "Don’t be naive, kid, the MECCA arena doesn’t even have air conditioning."
MECCA, built and opened in 1950, was somewhat better than the old Boston Garden and Chicago Stadium, but being too small and having outdated facilities was unavoidable.
A new stadium was already in the planning stage, and it was only a matter of time before the Bucks moved out, but for now, the players still had to struggle in this stifling environment, sweating profusely under the basket.
Gan Guoyang moved to the low post again, and Cummings was noticeably struggling, the tough guy sighed, tangled up while he expressed the same sentiment as Brule, "Aren’t you tired?"
"Might get a little tired after playing three overtimes."
Gan Guoyang said, receiving the ball from Vandeweghe again.
Mokeski doubled, Gan Guoyang passed the ball out, Mokeski lunged.
Gan Guoyang squeezed inside another step, Vandeweghe lobbed the ball back in.
Gan Guoyang caught the ball, dribbled, spun, and shot a sky hook that went in!
100:95, the Trail Blazers were up by 5 points, and Gan Guoyang’s low post was too stable.
And he had already scored 50 points.
One player, almost entirely from the low post, had scored 50 points, which was incredible.
It meant he had attacked the opponent more than thirty times in the low post alone, his astonishing stamina was admirable.
Nielsen shook his head, muttering, "Even plantation owners aren’t as ruthless as you, Jack."
Gan Guoyang clenched his fist and roared after the basket, energized by such a game.
Then Moncrief, using a screen, took a jump shot that went in, 100:97, still a three-point game.
There were just under two minutes left in the game at this point.
The Bucks suddenly went into a full-court press defense!
Drexler was double-teamed, passed to Vandeweghe, but was intercepted by Cummings!
Cummings made the steal and drove down to the basket, but Gan Guoyang’s block deflected Cumming’s layup. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
But Pressey followed up with a put-back bucket, and by then, Gan Guoyang couldn’t do anything about it. 100:99.
With the Bucks down by just a point, Ramsay called a timeout, the Bucks’ full-court press had caught the Trail Blazers off-guard.
Ramsay set up an inbounds play, which was executed very successfully.
Using the gravitational pull of Gan Guoyang in the strong-side low post, Jim Paxson found an opportunity on the right side.
Walton passed the ball to Paxson, who caught the ball, took a jump shot, and hit it!
102:99, the Trail Blazers scored a crucial basket, with just over a minute left in the game.
Nielsen didn’t call a timeout, but shouted from the sidelines for a quick play – run, fast break!
The three guards sprinted, Moncrief with the ball again drove to the basket, but Gan Guoyang defended well.
His defensive positioning was nearly perfect; he didn’t jump prematurely, forcing Moncrief to slow down and pull back.
He passed the ball to Pierce, who was trailing on the outside. Pierce caught the ball and launched his third three-pointer of the game.
The ball swished through the net! 102:102, the Bucks tied it up in the final moments!
The rest of the Trail Blazers struggled to keep up on the defensive transition, as they were greatly fatigued.
At this moment, Gan Guoyang was inbounding the ball, the Bucks went full-court press again, making it impossible to pass the ball in.
