Chapter 450: Chapter 450 - Forest Girl’s Rough Invite

"The Chief wants to talk to you."

The Jungle Girl with huge jugs said... staring at Seman.

I look at Seman and see him having a look realization as he lightly asked, "It’s close to that time huh?"

"Come, we must meet him." The girl said, a bit impatient.

"Wait" I say and turn to Seman, "What is this about, Lord Seman?"

Seman looked at me for a second as something changed in his eyes. A change in trust and thankfully in a good way, "It’s about a contract the Religia-"

"You can’t say it to him!" The girl sharply said, her brows straightened to an angry stand.

"It’s alright. He is my family." Seman said and even through that didn’t make her happy, she quieted down. He turned to me again and quietly whispered to me, "It’s an age old contract that the Religias has made with the Wodonic Tribe."

With that, Seman told me the main details about how one ancestor from the Religias family discovered the mysterious yet strangely powerful Wodonic Tribe.

The Discovery was big for the tribe and they didn’t want anyone to know of them. But the ancestor was witty enough to already sent a scout ahead to the family and went ahead alone.

He told them the consequences of killing him, a noble of the kingdom. The tribe was powerful but nowhere enough to fight against the very kingdom they lived in.

So they made a deal.

The Deal was that the Religias family would take their tribe as a vassal state of theirs and in return they would pay taxes to them... and boy o boy, was it a heavy tax.

And to make sure the discovery wasn’t made, the tax collection was made every 5 years. The deal was good, they didn’t make enemies of themselves and also brought in hefty money.

"Woah... that’s quite the story, Lord Seman." I smile crudely.

Seman sighed as he understood the underlying meaning, "Yes, it is..."

"So they want you to come because..."

"Because the five year is coming to an end and they want to renegotiate some parts of the contract."

"The Money Part."

"The Money Part." Seman nodded and groaned, "...It’s not wrong of them to try to negotiate somethings."

I nod, "Yeah, that’s quite a lot to pay, especially when gathered for the whole five years."

Seman groaned as he tried to get off, "Now I have to go meet them."

"Hold Up." I pat his chest, stopping him and look at the jungle girl, "I’m going with him."

"What? No! You’re not coming." She immediately shut me down.

"Henry... they are secure about their home and don’t want anyone to go there. If I didn’t have to do the deal, they would have shut me down as well." Seman said.

"I understand that, but you’re not okay." I try not to sound suspicious, "I can understand the security but not when you’re still not healthy."

"Whatever you people are talking about; I will put it firmly that you nor anyone else is going with him." The jungle boobs said as she firmly held her stare.

"Well then, the deal is not happening as well." My words made her eyes widen.

"Why not!"

"You can clearly see that he’s not okay and yet you want to take him... without any security." I say, "Now I can’t trust any of you guys."

"Trust us! Don’t you dare shame us, outsider!" In anger, she raised her bow which caused some reaction.

The soldiers behind us immediately clutched the swords in their sheaths or brought out bows and arrows before thinking of aiming them.

...

"What’s happening?" Veronica asked. She didn’t know what was happening, all she felt was her carriage stopping and some distant shouts before all the soldiers suddenly placed their weapons.

"Madam, there seems to be situation with a tribal girl with the Religias." Her attendant, a young woman of bright mind told her as she looked out. "Probably talking about land dividends or something."

Veronica focused close and heard the new voice and Henry talking or more like arguing as her brows furrowed.

"I’m going out to check."

The young attendant wanted to say something, but only nodded knowing that her superior was the best at calming down situations.

...

"Is there something wrong here?" Veronica asks as I see her approaching.

"Well..." I look at Seman and see him giving me a cautious look. No matter what, Veronica was still tied to the Royal Faction, words of the deal couldn’t be spoken to her.

So I only said the bare minimum for her to understand the moment.

Veronica understood and knew that Henry kept things but it was their right to do so. She turned to the girl and spoke gently, "I understand your matter is of great importance, young lady. But the man here is in bad shape."

"I was the one who treated him and I know his condition the best. So I have to say, you can’t take him without a partial aid and that goes far to say for taking him alone."

The Wodonic Girl was about to say something when Veronica interrupted her, "Try to understand from these men’s perspective. You want to take away their chief who is in a bad condition, away and alone to your place, surely you would also find this very cautious, no?"

The forest girl clicked her tongue. She knew Veronica was correct and they too would be very protective of their own but it was precisely because of such reason that she was going so far to protect her own privacy.

Finally, after a moment of thought, she sighed, "Okay... we will reschedule this for-"

"Wait"

I interrupt as eyes turn to me, "If it is as important as you say, I have another solution."

"You do?" Both Seman and the forest girl said, one in curiosity and the other in wariness.

"Let me go." I suggest a brilliant idea which made both peoples eye wide.

"Hmm..." Seman thought about it while the girl was absolutely baffled.

"No! Absolutely not! It can’t happen!"

"Why?" I tilt my head playfully, "It’s a genuine alternative. Instead of Lord Seman, who is injured, I could go in exchange as his substitute."

"No, that can’t happen. We respect our privacy very much an-"

"And you won’t let just anyone get to know you guys, I get it, you said it way too many times." I roughly sigh as a vein popped over the girl’s head. "But it’s not a bad alternative, right?"

Seman took my words and slowly murmured, "...not really."

"Henry" I turn to Veronica, "Are you sure you want to do this? This sounds very significant."

"Yes, Henry." Seman said back, "Because of me, you’re already in a bad standing with the Dragonoir’s and now this... I can’t ask so fa-"

"It’s alright." I lightly pat his shoulder, "We’re family, I must do at least this much for it."

’Yes, as family, let me take advantage of you.’

"No!" The girl interrupted, "I can’t let some unknow-"

"He’s not unknown." Finally, some strength came back to Seman as he said strongly, "He’s my future son-in-law and he’ll be going in my place. If you have any problem with that, take it up with your chief."

The Big Jugs in animal furs grinded her teeth as she saw me smile gleefully at her.
