THE GOD EATER-Chapter 179: Weird Life Ability.
The heavy harpoons sailed through the air with the speed of bullets and a momentum that was far greater than that of bullets. Their fast speed through the air caused the air to shriek before the harpoons smashed into the airship with an even louder sound.
Unfortunately, despite all of that speed and power, the harpoons could only create dents on the hull of the airship. They couldn’t penetrate the hull of the airship. Therefore, they couldn’t be used to ground the airship.
This outcome was all because the airship’s defenses had been improved by Greg. So Loki wasn’t surprised by it.
However, as he probed the depth of the dent on the hull, he smacked his lips and said, "Who spends so much money on an airship? Now I am not so sure which is more expensive between the mech and the airship."
He felt impressed that Greg had used so much titanium to reinforce the hull of the airship, but the warriors below only felt despair. That despair became overwhelming when the energy shield broke a few minutes later.
But, as bad as the situation was, the despair that it caused didn’t break the warriors. This was because of the uniqueness of their Dao Heart refining technique.
Once they engaged their Dao Heart refining technique, all the despair that surged into their minds turned into fuel that burned and enhanced the power of a single emotion. That emotion was the emotion of anger.
So instead of feeling despair and fear because the situation looked like they would lose and die, all they felt was anger that they had been attacked. Every distraction in their minds disappeared, and their vision narrowed down onto their enemies.
Their vision became red, and everything else was forgotten as they focused on the airship in the air. Instead of thinking about running away for their lives, they smashed their fists together with eager anticipation of the battle that was to come.
The next thing that the airship did was to shoot at the balistae and destroy them. Then it destroyed a portion of the walls.
The warriors watched this happen as the anger within them increased with every breath. So when the ladder fell from the airship, and the people on the airship used the ladder to drop down, the warriors surged forward from the city to fight them.
Greg didn’t open fire on the city to destroy it because they needed the people in the city alive in order to recruit them into the Four Directions Sect and use them to earn merit points.
Of course, destroying the city and killing everyone within it would also earn merit points. But the merit points earned this way would be a small fraction of what they could earn with living recruits, and almost all of the merit points would belong to him for destroying the city. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
His subordinates don’t want that to happen, though. They don’t want to come all of this way for nothing. So they couldn’t allow him to destroy the city.
Fortunately, Greg didn’t mind doing things this way. After all, he would earn more merit points this way, too. If he could earn more merit points, he wouldn’t turn down the opportunity to do so.
So he took out his token and sent a message to Amelia and the other captains, saying, "I’ve taken down a city. I’ll send the coordinates now. If you’re interested, come over to the party."
Amelia immediately responded, "Well done, Greg. I knew I could always count on you."
Then she said to the other captains, "I will take another city soon. We should swarm them before they can respond to us. Let’s go."
The captains in the various posts on the front lines quickly began to act. They assembled their men and set off towards Greg or towards the captain. The overall plan was to split the attention of warriors and loot their cities in the chaos.
While they were doing this, the captains didn’t forget to send messages in their communication channel about what Greg had done.
One captain said, "Damn. So you did it. I’m impressed."
Greg replied, smugly, "If I could do it before, I can definitely do it again."
Another captain said, "You have to be suicidal or something because I can’t understand why you always volunteer to be the vanguard."
To which Greg said, "I am just that good."
Many more captains spoke up to praise him. But he wasn’t listening anymore because he saw one of his subordinates, a man, using a weird Life Ability.
This man was a newcomer, so Greg had never seen his Life Ability before. But now that he was seeing it, he immediately determined that there was something weird about the Life Ability. It was as if his eyes were extra sensitive to mutations in Life Abilities.
The weird Life Ability was metallic and black, and even though he was high up, his eyes could still glean the details of the Life Ability. All of his attention was on that black Life Ability, so he didn’t hear the chatter in the communication channel.
After looking for a while, he was able to conclude that the weird Life Ability was a mutated Life Ability. This made him grit his teeth in anger and say, "He must die."
Then he went up to the control wheel, turned it to make the airship turn its guns towards the owner of the mutated Life Ability in question.
When the cannons were lined up, he let them rip without any hesitation. Cannonballs flew through the air and smashed into the area where the man was. Only one of the cannonballs made direct contact with the man, but all of them did damage to the man because they exploded around him and bombarded him with shrapnel.
That single round of fire shredded the man to pieces. It also put a stop to the eagerness of people of the Four Directions Sect who were rushing forward with excitement.
