THE GOD EATER-Chapter 144: Wasted Talent.
Amelia pointed at the four subordinates around her and said, "These four will be your commanders. I assigned you to the posts that they control. There are many other posts in this small world, but only these four are in dire need of manpower.
Then she smiled and said, "For the few of you that I assigned to Greg over here, I want to tell you that you didn’t get assigned to him because of bad luck."
"I picked you to work with him because you were one of the few who didn’t look ready to kill him just now. You were able to withstand his attitude just now, which means that you will be able to work somewhat amicably with him."
"In any case, I wish you good luck. That will be all."
With that said, she turned to leave. She communicated silently with her bear, so it stood up, turned, and began jogging away.
Loki and some people watched her go with bitterness in their eyes. This was because they now knew that the unfortunate assignment that befell them wasn’t because of bad luck. They now know that she had intentionally picked them for this unpleasant job.
Unfortunately, there was nothing they could do about the matter. So Loki turned to Greg and glared at the pompous man as he thought to himself, "I should have lost my temper just now. Who would have thought that letting your emotions get the better of you, which should have been a bad thing for a cultivator, is actually a good thing that can help one avoid bad luck in this case?"
As he was glaring at Greg, the pompous man turned to him and caught him staring. But Greg didn’t seem to care that a subordinate was glaring at him.
He picked his nose as he said to Loki, "You must be one of my new lackeys. I’ll be honest with you. You don’t look like much."
"I’m sure that’s not the first time you’re hearing it. You must hear it every day of your miserable life. But I’ll say it here so that you know that I won’t be easily disappointed in you."
His words made Loki inspect him with the Power Identification Ability to make sure that Greg was doing something insidious to make people hate him.
Race: Human
Status: 4
Energy Quantity: 90
Energy Density: 12.
Energy Rank: 3.
Body: 4.
Soul: 3.
Mind: 3.
Will: 4.
Skill: 300%
Metac: Telekinesis Metac. Floating Furnace Life Ability.
Once he saw this, Loki couldn’t help but marvel and say, "So it was just pure talent, not the power of some Metac. He can rile up emotions easily without even trying. What if he has the help of the Emotional Domination Metac? He would be unstoppable."
He clicked his tongue and said, "What a shame that he is a forger. His talent is being wasted as a forger."
"Even so, he has certainly done well with himself as a forger. His talent is at the limit of human potential, and all of his stats have reached their limit."
"The only things that could be preventing him from advancing to rank 4 are probably the secret recipe for rank 4 Core Metac or the Energy Nexus. No wonder he is so cocky."
After praising Greg, he couldn’t help but look at Greg’s Dao Status again and say, "He is already at Level 4. What more could he be fighting for on the Earthly Battlefield?"
"Isn’t Level 5 Dao Status said to be only available on the Heavenly Battlefield? Isn’t he just wasting his time here?"
Meanwhile, the other nine people who had been assigned to Greg had gathered around Loki and were all glaring at Greg or frowning with displeasure.
Greg didn’t mind how they were looking at him. He said magnanimously to them, "Cheer up, all of you. You don’t need to burden yourself with the thought that I expect great things from you. I don’t even expect good things from you, so you can relax."
"Of course, if you perform well, I will have to reward you. But I doubt that will happen. So the only thing that you need to concern yourself with is staying alive on the battlefield and earning merit points."
Then he pointed in a certain direction and said, "Our airship is that way. Let’s board it and return to our post as soon as possible. That way, you will be able to get up to whatever mediocre performance you can deliver."
After saying this, he turned to leave. Everyone looked at each other before resigning themselves to their fate and following him.
As they followed Greg, Loki thought to himself in admiration, "He can’t go give seconds without saying something insulting. What a talent."
He was still in the mood to appreciate Greg’s talent, even though the pompous man just gave him a humiliating dressing down about how he didn’t look like much and had a miserable life. This is definitely an odd behavior that would surprise even Greg.
As it turned out, he was the only one who thought that Greg was talented. Everyone else was either regretting not lashing out at Greg earlier or trying to keep themselves from lashing out at him now. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
But no matter what they thought of Greg, it didn’t change the fact that they all came here for a single goal, and that goal is too important to sabotage.
That goal is the acquisition of merit points. Since this goal is so important, they let their minds focus on it rather than focus on the corrosive words that were pouring out of Greg’s mouth.
Loki was also thinking about merit points. He wasn’t thinking about how to earn them, though. What he was thinking about was how to spend them after acquiring them. He was that confident in himself.
He thought to himself with anticipation, "Level 2 Dao Status costs 10 grade 3 points, so as long as I kill a few enemies or recruit a few people for the sect, I will be able to reach that milestone."
