THE GOD EATER-Chapter 142: Bad Mouth.
As Greg said his last sentence, he made sure to glance at someone behind him. This was to indicate to everyone that he thought that person was weak.
Amelia saw this and wanted to berate him again. But before she could speak, Greg turned away from the man and began to address the group of recruits again.
He said to them, "That is all that I have to say to you, slightly talented but most untalented group of people. If you have a question and have decided that you must waste my time with it, please raise the question as soon as possible so that I can put an end to this torture early on."
The way he spoke intimidated a lot of people and made it difficult for them to summon the courage to speak and ask questions. This made Loki smirk and say to himself, "No wonder Amelia encouraged us to ask questions. This Greg guy is already being too difficult to speak with. I can’t imagine just how difficult he is to work with."
Greg probably thought that he was god’s gift to mankind, but his pride wasn’t enough to dissuade people from wasting his time with questions, seeing as it was their life that was on the line.
One man raised his hand and asked, "How long can our mission last?"
In response, Greg rolled his eyes before saying, "Each deployment will last a year. During that year, you can’t quit. You can only quit and leave the small world when your year of deployment is over, and if there is no executive order from the sect to retain soldiers for an emergency."
"Barring emergencies, you can leave after one year of service or serve up to ten years in one go. It is up to you. That is all."
After answering the question, Greg looked around and said, "Anyone else?"
But the previous man held out his hand again.
This made Greg growl and say, "What else do you want to know? Wasn’t my explanation clear enough? It better be clear enough, or it would mean that you’re retarded."
The man’s eye twitched before saying, "I am not retarded. It is just that you didn’t answer my previous question to my satisfaction."
"When I said, ’ How long can our mission last?’ I meant, ’What is the limit of time that we can stay in this small world with the mission?"
Greg’s eyes examined the man from head to toe with a sneer tugging at his lips before he said, "You must be one of those people who took this mission, a dangerous mission, just to escape from enemies. If you are, then you will be glad to know that you can remain here for as long as you want."
"The bad news, of course, is that your enemy, whoever they are, can also choose to sign up for this mission, and if they are connected enough, they can make it so that they are assigned to this battlefield. What are you going to do then?"
But before the man could answer, Greg shook his head and said, "With the way you asked that question, I bet that you’re not smart. I bet that you haven’t considered the possibility that your enemy can follow you here."
Then he raised his cleft chin with pride and said, "So it is your good luck that I considered that possibility for you. Unfortunately, that’s the limit of what the blessing of my presence can deliver. You will have to think about what to do if your enemy follows you all on your own."
"You won’t get my help with that. At least, not for free."
At this point, the man had become fed up with Greg. If they were not on a battlefield and if he wasn’t sure that he was weaker than Greg, he would have taken a swing at Greg by now.
But since he was weak and couldn’t afford to be fined by the sect for attacking an ally, he swallowed his frustration at Greg and decided to ignore the obnoxious man for as long as possible.
The other people listening had also begun to get frustrated with Greg. Unfortunately for them, no matter how pissed they were at him, they still had many questions to be answered. This meant that they had to swallow their pride and subject themselves to Greg’s bad mouth.
But the more they capitulated to Greg, the worse his words and behavior got. In just a few minutes of meeting him, many people had decided that they wanted to kill Greg and would do so if they got the opportunity.
Loki had also nearly had enough of Greg. He didn’t take much of what Greg said seriously because he was assured of his worth and talent, but he was still irritated by Greg’s constant insults.
He also noticed the killing intent coming from everyone and directed at Greg. This made him roll his eyes and say, "It is a good thing he bought that life insurance or people would be more willing to kill him here and now."
Then he snorted and said inwardly, "I bet the insurance is why he is still alive for so long. If life insurance can keep someone with such a bad mouth alive for so long, then maybe I have undervalued the life insurance too much. Maybe I should take back what I said about the sect using the life insurance to cheat us."
Meanwhile, someone else asked another question. This time, it was a woman.
Even as she was asking the question and hadn’t received Greg’s answer, she gritted her teeth in preparation to withstand Greg’s condescension.
The lady said, "How many merit points will we earn per kill?"
Greg looked at her as if he were looking at an idiot who was asking a silly question with an obvious answer. His face bore a look that indicated to everyone that it was beneath him to answer that question. But he still had to answer the question because Amelia was glaring at him.
