Lu Jia’er remained unperturbed by Xu Lei’s inquiry. Her expression was even more proof that she could remain composed. The reason was that, with mind-reading, she had already learned Xu Lei’s thoughts before he managed to figure out how to pose the question. As such, she was able to ask calmly, “Deputy Xu, where is this coming from?”

“Some rumors are leaking out in regards to Su Han’s kidnapping while strict orders have been given to prohibit any leak of information!” Xu Lei looked at Lu Jia’er, longing for answers.

“What rumors?” Lu Jia’er asked.

Xu Lei hesitated for a moment. Eventually, he let out the words that had been racing around in his mind, “There are rumors that… she is a robot.”

Lu Jia’er asked another question after hearing this. “Deputy Xu, are you a man that would believe rumors?”

“I don’t believe rumors. That is why I want to hear the answer directly from you.” Xu Lei answered.

“What kind of answer are you looking for?” said Lu Jia’er.

Xu Lei fixed his eyes on her. Privately, he had been denying the credibility of those rumors. However, with this response from Lu Jia’er, he had come to some understanding. “Okay. I see!”

“What do you see?” Lu Jia’er asked while knowing what he was thinking.

“If Su Han is a robot, then Professor Lu, you…” Xu Lei paused at this moment and stared at her.

As a Deputy Captain of the criminal police unit, Xu Lei excelled with his perception and keen sense. The fact that he could collect some facts during information blockage was proof that he had built outstanding methods and connections. Inside, Lu Jia’er felt both grateful and worried about the things that he had been doing.

Based on the current situation, knowing the identity of her and Su Han would not necessarily benefit Xu Lei.

Lu Jia’er gazed at the illuminated city at the foot of the mountain. Ablaze with lights, the streets extended to the end of the city like many dragon fires.

“Deputy Xu, if the rumors were true, would you be able to accept it?” Lu Jia’er threw back a question at him casually.

Xu Lei was surprised. At first, he thought Lu Jia’er would try to defend herself or deny it. She was unexpectedly honest. On the other hand, Xu Lei was not prepared for this question. He even tried to help her justify herself. “I think you are joking, Professor Lu!”

Lu Jia’er smiled. Xu Lei was unwilling to admit it, which must have something to do with his crush on her. “What do you think of me based on your experiences with me?”

“Professor Lu, you are knowledgeable, understanding, beautiful and graceful.” That was Xu Lei’s comment about Lu Jia’er.

“And?” Lu Jia’er asked with a smile.

“And a bit mysterious!” Xu Lei went on.

“Mysterious? Tell me in which way am I mysterious.” Lu Jia’er chuckled.

“Your ability to perceive what people are thinking is out of the ordinary!” Xu Lei gave an honest response.

Lu Jia’er smiled gently and turned to Xu Lei, “Do you find it scary?”

“The ones with a guilty conscience would find you scary. But I only think that is adorable!” Xu Lei looked into her eyes and confessed his affection to her which was buried in part truth and part lies.

Lu Jia’er smiled. “Deputy Xu, thank you for thinking so highly of me. But, sometimes, knowing too much is not a good thing.”

Of course, Xu Lei understood it. Even so, the shock in his mind could not be subdued. He stood by his comment. “Professor Lu, whoever you are, I believe firmly that you are a good person! A fair lady!”
