Chapter 131: A Certified Liar

"Oh!" Liam sounded confused and amused at the same time.

His arms itched around him, before he finally returned the joy and hugged her back.

Theo was so glad he was back. Weeks without him had been hard, with barely anyone to talk to. She had missed his smile, his voice, and his support. And she had been so worried about him.

She held him even tighter, "I missed you so much," She murmured.

"What the hell is going on here?!" Heather’s mortified voice cut through, and Theo’s eyes widened.

She quickly realised what she had just done. Boys don’t usually greet each other by throwing themselves into the other’s arms like a girl and murmuring how much they have missed each other. Even Liam probably was not expecting this kind of reaction from her, anyway.

Theo instantly pulled back and stood on her feet. Heather was staring at her like she was out of her mind, while Liam’s ears had gone red. If he had something in mind, he was too flushed to say it.

She had put both of them in an awkward situation.

Theo cleared her throat, then added flatly, "Glad to have you back, bro," She patted his arms.

Liam frowned.

"It’s him!" Heather picked up from where she stood before they had arrived, pointing at Theo, "He’s the one I was telling you about, brother. He slapped me!"

Theo blinked and looked between Heather and Liam. Was Liam the brother she was talking about?

"Thad?" Liam questioned, "Are you sure it was him?"

"It was I," Theo confirmed, "I slapped her." She looked at Liam, "And if you wanna get revenge for her, I might as well slap you too. Or, would you rather hear the full story?"

"He already knows the full story!" Heather snapped angrily, "You and your little girlfriend were making noise at the library and when I asked you both to shut up, you pushed me down and slapped me,"

Ava gasped.

Theo did too, "Not only are you a bully, but you’re also a liar," Theo could feel Seraphina trying to raise her hands again, and forced her arm to remain down, "Liam, that is not what happened,"

"It so is!" Heather stomped her foot on the ground with a pout like she was about to start crying, "My friends were there when it happened. He threatened me, brother. He looked down on me because I was a girl! You know the first day we arrived?" Heather pointed at Ava, "She tried to kiss him, and guess what he did? He shoved her off and took off running to go puke. You can ask anyone. He looks down on us girls! And I don’t have anyone right now to take my side but you. Please, you have to believe me!" Fake tears rolled down her face, and Theo was genuinely shocked.

Anyone would believe her. Her acting was surreal. She must have gotten away with a lot of things in the past.

"Oh no, don’t cry," Liam cooed, pulling her into a hug as she kept sobbing against his chest, "I’ll talk to him. I’ll make sure he never..."

"Talk to him?" She snapped again, wriggling out of his hold, "I want you to beat him up! I want his bones broken. I want his reputation and his family’s ruined and burned to ashes! He didn’t just slap me, he slapped the whole Sinclair family!"

Theo held down her arm with her other hand forcefully, *Sera, stop it!*

*Let me punch her. Just this once!*

*No!* Theo warned, *Stop it. I’ll take care of this!*

Seraphina snarled.

"That’s...," Ava’s tiny voice came up, and everyone turned to her, "That’s not what happened. She...,"

"Brother!" Heather cried even harder, "Don’t believe what she says. He’s probably talked her into telling lies!"

"If you want, I can...show you what actually happened," Ava added, a little more confidently.

Everyone turned to her.

"Show me?"

"Yes," She replied and stepped forward, "I can show you..." She looked at Heather, "Your sister’s memories. They’ll tell you whether she’s telling you the truth or not,"

"You can do that?" Theo murmured.

"I can," Ava raised a hand, "But I’ll need to touch both Heather and Liam to show him,"

Heather looked horrified for a second, before she turned to Liam again, "Brother. She doesn’t know what she’s saying. How could she even possibly be able to show you my memories? No wolf is capable of that. And I know you don’t need to see any memories to believe your little sister. They’re making this complicated. Just beat him up and get this over with,"

Liam sighed, "Unfortunately, Heather. I can’t beat up Thaddeus,"

She was taken aback, "Why?!"

"Because he won’t just stand there and take a beating. If I raise a hand on him," Liam grinned and threw an arm over Theo’s shoulders casually, then looked at her, "We are going to end up being the ones getting beaten to a pulp,"

"You’re afraid of him?" Her tone rolled with disgust.

"No, I respect my best friend too much to beat him. If he did slap you, you probably did something worth the slap,"

Heather almost fell back, disbelief swarming her eyes, "You don’t believe me? I really didn’t do anything!"

Liam cupped her face, "Heather, you’re a sweet girl. And I do believe you. But I don’t believe the whole thing,"

"What??!" She shouted so hard that the entire school must have heard.

"But don’t worry, you’re my little sister. I will pretend none of this ever happened," The way he kept smiling creeped Theo out a bit.

"I’m gonna tell dad! I’m gonna tell him!!!"

"Alright, go ahead," Liam said and dragged Theo with him as they walked away.

Heather remained there, screaming and threatening to tell their family everything.

"Why didn’t you believe her?" Theo asked once Heather’s voice was now distant.

"Heather is a certified liar. I used to believe her, till she lied about me, too, to our father. My dad let her get away with it. He told me, though,"

Their dad let her get away with it? "How do the Sinclairs treat the girls in the family?"

"What do you mean?"

"You said your dad let her get away with it. Is he...nice to her?"

"Of course. She’s his daughter,"

"Wow," She never had that, "Anyway, I’m just glad you’re back, though,"

She stopped to look at him again.

Liam looked different. His wavy blonde hair was now a buzz cut, and there was a small scar where he had been injured.

He smiled at her, "Why are you staring at me like that?"

"Because you almost died. And it was all my fault," Theo said softly, trying to keep the tears back. Cain had targeted him because they were close, and just like Ashbourne’s Warning: this might not be the end of it.

"How was it your fault? I was the one who went out looking for you and let down my guard,"

’And I was the reason you got targeted in the first place and now have a scar in your head, and I don’t think we should keep being friends because I’m scared they’re going to come after you again’

She wanted to say that, instead, she shook her head, "I still feel terrible,"

"I’m fine," He ruffled her hair playfully, then the smile vanished, "Now, let me ask you something..."

"Huh?"

He glanced behind them, where Ava was slowly following them, "Did you really replace me while I was gone?"
