Chapter 321: 309. Grand opening of the flesh and blood mill (15,000 words today, asking for monthly passes)_3
If two armies plan to engage in a protracted battle, they must evacuate the local residents, as these people would consume a vast amount of supplies daily, which the military simply cannot provide.
Charles’s evacuation of the Sedona City inhabitants was just a temporary measure, but to seasoned commanders, it was clearly the prelude to a major operation.
As a frontline commander, Chloe cared little for others’ opinions. Once he confirmed that Sedona had become a ghost town, he did not hesitate to occupy the second-largest city in the South Seraph Region.
He had been facing off with Charles Mecklen for several months, but this was the first time he had truly captured a city guarded by the opponent, rather than merely “occupying” it in documents.
As Andriayas kept sending letters to the rear, expressing his views on the frontline, the Royal Family and ministers of the Black Phoenix Dynasty also felt that Fars might indeed launch a major campaign in Southseraph, and they quickly approved a plan for reinforcements.

Charles led the Westwind Knights to retreat to the small town of Interlaken. After staying there for only a few days, the Black Phoenix Dynasty’s army charged in again, and he did not hesitate to abandon the town, continuing his retreat.
The original inhabitants of Interlaken had mostly scattered because of the previous wars. Those who returned later, already fearful of war, also retreated with him.
Of course, Charles took all the supplies with him when he left.
It was as if both sides had an unspoken agreement; one silently retreating, the other slowly advancing, capturing cities one after another, and soon the war had engulfed all of Southseraph.
Only this time, it was not the Behemoth people who attacked, but the armies of the Black Phoenix Dynasty.
Charles kept sending official documents to Strasbourg, describing the situation on the front, not knowing how Strasbourg would react.
He did his best to ensure that this sudden war affected ordinary residents’ lives as little as possible, but how could it not?
Charles continued to evacuate people and supplies to the rear. The invading Black Phoenix Dynasty’s army, unable to resupply on-site, soon resorted to brutal measures.
Every day dozens of Southseraph people were hanged by the Black Phoenix Dynasty’s army for refusing to relinquish their last bit of food.
Charles was helpless. By now, more than five members of the Sacred Order were in the Black Phoenix Dynasty’s army. Tumishen and Old Goat exerted all their strength merely to contain the enemy, no longer able to counterattack.
Just as the Westwind Knights were about to retreat into Behemoth Duchy’s territory, Charles suddenly received intelligence from the rear that two Knighthoods had rushed over from the frontline.
The armies were led by his old acquaintances, Krel Brittany and Ebner Sumei.
Upon hearing the news, Charles was not particularly pleased. Although both were powerful combatants of the Eighteenth Rank, it was obvious that in a battle dominated by members of the Sacred Order, they were only there to be slaughtered.
He dispatched messengers to convey the intelligence to the two, also hoping that Krel Brittany and Ebner Sumei would not continue to advance, but rather retreat for the time being.
Charles soon received a document from Krel, assuring him to be at ease as they would arrive soon, which only increased Charles’s anxiety, prompting him to send several more documents.
As Charles crossed the border between Southseraph and the Behemoth, the Black Phoenix Dynasty’s army caught up with him. What made him most desperate was that all five members of the Sacred Order from the Black Phoenix Dynasty were present, clearly ready to decide the battle right there.
What Charles did not know was that the Black Phoenix Dynasty’s army had long wanted to surround and annihilate him, but he had been too slippery, like a fish always finding a gap in the net to escape.
The Black Phoenix Dynasty’s army, chasing all the way, had only just managed to catch Charles’s tail.
Charles knew that at this point, he could only hope that Golden Ram Herolf and Tumishen could turn the tide. He did not dare to continue to retreat and set up his formation on the spot, adopting the Westwind Knights’ specialty, the iron barrel defense, preparing to engage the Black Phoenix Dynasty’s army in a fierce battle.
Just as both sides had begun to face off, two Knighthoods suddenly advanced from behind Charles.
Charles initially thought it was the Black Phoenix Dynasty’s army surrounding his retreat, but he soon realized that the flags carried by the two Knighthoods bore the symbols of the purple finch and maple leaf. It was Krel and Ebner who had arrived on the battlefield.
Although the reinforcements arrived in time, Charles did not feel relieved. On one hand, he sent for Krel and Ebner, and on the other, he prepared for battle.
He felt that it was too late to blame them for coming. It was better to work together and try their best in the upcoming battle.
Andreas ascended slowly into the air. Seeing the reinforcements from Fars, he became even more convinced that Fars intended to launch a vigorous assault in the South Seraph Region, and the previous retreats were just a diversion.
Members of the Sacred Order observing enemy movement from above was a common sight in this world.
After all, the artillery of this world could not hit those of the Sacred Order, and rifles could not shoot that far.
Charles, watching from afar, was about to instruct Old Goat to also take to the sky to not lose the momentum, when he heard a clear and sharp voice calling out, “Andriayas! I hear you’re the youngest member of the Sacred Order in the Black Phoenix Dynasty?”
A young figure slowly ascended, clad in the neat and tidy uniform of Fars, it was the somewhat fastidious Krel.
Charles, overjoyed, called out, “Krel! Have you ascended to the Sacred Order?”
From a distance, Krel Brittany waved at Charles and smiled, “That’s why you told me to fall back, but I chose to move forward!”
“Not just me, Ebner has ascended too.”
Charles took a deep breath and thought, “War indeed brings dislocation and harm to many, but it always brings out heroes in these tumultuous times.”
“If Krel and Ebner have both ascended to the Sacred Order, then we still have a fight on our hands!”
“I need to plan for a four against five tactic.”
Before he had decided who to put into tough combat first, to secure an initial local advantage, he heard two intense streams of air colliding high above.
Andriayas, without uttering any nonsense, had joined battle with Krel Brittany.
