The Fake Heiress Turns Out to Be a True Tycoon!-Chapter 432: He Calls Himself ’Grandma
Chapter 432: Chapter 432: He Calls Himself ’Grandma
Amber Livingston watched as the female ghost edged closer bit by bit toward her bed, her heart practically leaping into her throat.
She gingerly pulled the blanket over herself, squeezed her eyes shut tight, and pretended she hadn’t seen anything, yet her body trembled uncontrollably like a sieve.
Such an obvious reaction naturally caught Isolde Garrison’s attention.
Bit by bit, she drifted over to the opposite hospital bed. Peering at the quivering lump hidden under the blanket, her eyes narrowed slightly—then suddenly widened, as though she’d figured something out.
After a moment’s pause, her mischievous side seemed to kick in, and she floated horizontally, positioning her ghastly white ghostly face directly at the crack of the blanket.
If this person could see ghosts, then when he peeled back the blanket for a peek later, he might just keel over from fright.
At that thought, Isolde Garrison suddenly discovered a bit of fun in being a ghost.
She waited motionlessly in mid-air for quite some time, but the person inside the blanket seemed incredibly adept at holding his breath. Though trembling for ages, he stubbornly refused to poke his head out.
Growing impatient, Isolde decided to push her luck—she plunged her head directly under the blanket.
But before she could clearly make out the situation beneath the covers, a white light suddenly flashed before her eyes. In the next instant, a paw resembling that of a fox shot forth from the light, grasping her head and yanking her violently out from the blanket.
The fox paw seemed to condense from spiritual power, rendering Isolde Garrison’s soul body completely powerless to resist. With a sharp slap, the paw slammed her onto the floor.
Fear flickered across Isolde’s face as she struggled to escape, only to be stopped cold by the piercing shriek of a woman’s voice behind her,
"A mere runt of a ghost, daring to cause a ruckus before your lady aunt!"
With those words of mocking chill, the fox paw aggressively swiped at Isolde’s soul body, eliciting a blood-curdling scream as her soul was damaged and much of the shadow energy around her dissipated into the air.
Finally realizing she’d encountered a formidable opponent, Isolde abandoned all pretense and scrambled madly toward the door, ignoring the weakness draining her. But as she reached the doorway, a man dressed in black—hat, coat, and all—suddenly appeared.
Just as she attempted to pass through his body and flee, the figure raised his hand. With a resounding slap, his palm collided with her soul body.
The impact blindsided her, once again sending her sprawling to the floor.
Shadow energy spilled from Isolde’s form in all directions. Before she could recover, the man produced a length of red rope from thin air. Face void of expression, he stooped down and looped the rope deftly around Isolde’s neck. His movements were swift—within moments, her soul body was bound tightly like a small dumpling and promptly stuffed into the thermal container hanging by his side.
"Spiritual Guide received target. Retrieval set for midnight tonight in the Underworld."
With those cold, flat words, the black-clothed guide turned away, thermal container in hand, without stepping into the hospital room. He left immediately.
He had a busy night ahead.
Inside the ward, the fox paw, condensed from spiritual power, vanished the instant the guide arrived.
Nervously, Amber Livingston peeked her head out in time to catch sight of the black-clothed figure at the doorway, carrying away the ghost bundled up like a dumpling. She vaguely heard him mention "Spiritual Affairs."
Amber knew right away that this must be the person Scarlett Jennings had sent to handle the situation.
Thank goodness—for when that female ghost had approached him earlier, it was this guide who had appeared just in time.
Though... there was something peculiar about this guide—the voice had shifted from male to female. Amber distinctly recalled him referring to himself as "your lady aunt" while hidden under the covers.
This puzzled Amber, but after a moment he chalked it up—perhaps it was just his personal quirk?
Deciding not to dwell on it, he quickly messaged Scarlett Jennings to express his gratitude. Still uneasy about staying another moment in the hospital, he pulled out his IV and prepared to discharge himself in a hurry.
The commotion earlier hadn’t attracted any attention from the other patients in the ward.
Josiah Garrison had briefly paused after catching sight of the black-clothed guide at the doorway, but since the figure didn’t enter, he quickly dismissed it.
Oddly enough, Josiah suddenly felt a weight lift from his shoulders—perhaps the medication had finally kicked in. His body didn’t seem so cold anymore.
Feeling relief, he prepared to rest properly, only to be interrupted by the sound of retching from the nearby bed.
Turning his head, Josiah noticed the man lying in the adjacent bed—the same man involved in the car accident.
Nicholas Woods was in worse shape than Josiah. His injuries included multiple fractures and a concussion.
The sound of gagging had prompted the nurse to rush over to support him.
Despite his dizziness and unbearable discomfort, Nicholas Woods remained fixated on something else.
Clutching the nurse’s uniform, he spoke haltingly,
"It’s Scarlett... it’s Scarlett Jennings who hired someone to hurt me. Help me re...urp... Help me call the police... to arrest her!"
He was recalling the final words of Ava Zimmerman. At the time, they had felt strange, but in hindsight, he realized they were meant as a warning.
Why else would his misfortune follow so immediately after offending the Jennings Family?
Conspiracy! It had to be a conspiracy!
Battling nausea and head pain, Nicholas stubbornly demanded the nurse take action. Frustrated, she gestured to the man in the adjacent bed, Josiah, explaining,
"Nicholas Woods, no one’s targeting you. This was just a regular traffic accident—the person you collided with is right here."
Nicholas refused to listen, continuing to shout, "It’s not him! It’s Scarlett Jennings! It was the Jennings Family! She must be feeling...urp... guilty... Call the police!"
Josiah Garrison, who had initially been bewildered, felt a sudden spark of inspiration upon hearing Nicholas blame Scarlett Jennings. He quickly chimed in,
"Nurse, I know Scarlett Jennings too—she was at the accident scene herself. Perhaps it’s worth calling the police to investigate. Better yet, have her come to the hospital so we can confront her directly!"
Josiah had no intention of incriminating his sister. They had been siblings for years, and he would never truly harm her.
He just wanted her to come to the hospital—so she could help "exorcise the ghost" and resolve his current predicament. After that, he’d protect her innocence and clear her name.
Josiah convinced himself of this plan.
The nurse, initially dismissive of Nicholas Woods’ ranting, hesitated upon seeing Josiah corroborating his claims. After all, one person could be lying—but could both car accident victims be lying?
Uncertain, she decided to place the call to the police.
Soon after, officers arrived from the station.
After hearing the two men recount their stories, the officers deemed it necessary to investigate further. Knowing that Scarlett Jennings was young, they opted to contact her guardian directly rather than her.
Luca Jennings received the call while reviewing company emails in his study. As the police explained the situation, he removed his glasses and his calculating gaze sharpened with a trace of cold severity,
"As citizens, we have a duty to cooperate with police investigations. But without concrete evidence, the police have no right to demand my daughter’s presence."
The officer was momentarily stunned by Luca’s commanding tone, promptly adopting a more deferential explanation,
"Mr. Jennings, this isn’t a summon—it’s merely that both accident victims are requesting Miss Jennings’ presence to clarify matters face-to-face..."
Luca didn’t interrupt, though his voice remained uncompromising and icy,
"I will say this once more: let them bring forth tangible proof before speaking further. Otherwise, I reserve the right to have my lawyer pursue charges of defamation against them."
With that, he ended the call with a sharp click.
