Chapter 373: Chapter 373: Could His Daughter Be Obsessed with Love?

"Young Master Lucas!"

Caius Carew and the others were startled. They immediately dismantled the Talisman Array and rushed forward. However, two figures were faster, darting ahead to catch Scarlett Jennings as she nearly collapsed to the ground.

Donovan Jennings and Luca Jennings supported her firmly, one on each side.

Lucas Jennings, a step slower, couldn’t find space to intervene and could only anxiously circle behind the two of them.

Scarlett had merely blacked out for a moment due to excessive spiritual power consumption.

She quickly regained herself, though her face was still pale.

Supported by Donovan and Luca’s hands, she steadied herself again. Raising her hand, she dispelled the protective array surrounding Samuel Chalmers and moved forward to check on him.

Seeing that he was still unconscious, she reached out to lift him off the ground.

Donovan and Luca, however, wouldn’t let her do it, quickly stepping in to take over.

Donovan, for once, wore a serious expression, saying, "I’ve already called both the Jennings and Chalmers Family doctors over. He’ll be fine—you need to go rest."

But Scarlett shook her head. "I’m fine. I need to see for myself."

Luca, while feeling grateful to Samuel for shielding his niece from that Fire Thunder earlier, was now uneasy seeing Scarlett’s concern for him.

She was in such a state herself, yet still worried about her boyfriend. Ah, what could he do?

"You go back. After the doctors finish their examinations, I’ll update you on his condition."

Wasn’t it enough that there were Security Bureau folks standing nearby?

Couldn’t they help out?

Why did his daughter have to shoulder everything?

Thinking this, Luca cast a sharp, slightly accusatory glance at Caius Carew and the others.

That look, how to describe it?

It felt as if he were questioning whether they were wasting a taxpayer heavyweight’s money.

Caius Carew and Victor Quintero: ...

It’s not like they didn’t want to help earlier, okay?

The problem was, they couldn’t help!

And they hadn’t been just standing there—maintaining the Talisman Array to trap the system had drained a substantial amount of spiritual energy too.

After a brief pause, Caius Carew still stepped forward. "Young Master Lucas, leave this friend to me. I’ll ensure he’s unharmed."

As he spoke, his gaze fell on Samuel Chalmers’ unconscious face, his eyes faintly reflective.

The aura that had emanated from this man when he blocked that Fire Thunder just now felt vaguely familiar to him.

Scarlett heard him and remained silent for a moment before saying,

"If I stay close to him, he’ll recover faster."

Scarlett was genuinely worried about Samuel’s condition, and honestly, she wasn’t wrong in her reasoning.

Though unconscious, the man’s spiritual energy was incredibly pure!

Donovan, having heard bits and pieces from Scarlett about Samuel’s special circumstances, no longer objected at her remark.

Luca, however, who wasn’t in the loop, looked visibly conflicted upon hearing what she said.

Mostly because, on first listen, it sounded a lot like those romance-driven plots where some lovesick fool claims love alone can cure all illnesses.

Could it be that his daughter was a lovesick fool?

Seeing Luca’s serious expression while still stubbornly holding her arm, Lucas became anxious, blurting, "Uncle, my sister’s right!"

Although he didn’t understand the specifics, last time his sister had "healed" this way too.

He just didn’t know if unconscious Samuel worked as well as awake Samuel??

Seeing Scarlett’s insistence, Luca reluctantly backed down. He ordered the butler to have Samuel sent back to the Chalmers Family, ready to follow along with the group when Azura Loomis, still pinned to the ground nearby, suddenly called out in desperation.

"Scarlett Jennings! You’ve already destroyed the system, isn’t that enough? Let them release me!"

Azura panted heavily after yelling, her face contorted in pain.

Scarlett stopped in her tracks and turned back to look at her. "If you hadn’t made a sound, I might’ve forgotten you."

She then shifted her gaze to Caius Carew. "Uncle Caius, she’s the one who partnered with the Evil God System to steal living people’s fortune and used others’ living souls to seize their bodies."

She reached into her backpack and pulled out the doll belonging to Grandma Jennings, retrieved earlier from Azura.

"This is the evidence."

Upon hearing this, Caius Carew’s expression turned ice-cold. He gave Victor Quintero a glance, signaling, "Take her back for interrogation."

Harming others with Evil Techniques was beyond the jurisdiction of regular police, but it was exactly the kind of thing the Security Bureau dealt with.

The last person who used Evil Techniques to swap bodies with her best friend was still locked up as they spoke.

Besides, regarding the Evil God System, they needed to interrogate her thoroughly.

Azura hadn’t expected them to arrest her so decisively. Watching Victor approach, her expression changed, and she struggled to resist.

"No! You can’t arrest me! I didn’t commit any crimes! You have no right to detain me!"

As if remembering something, she suddenly said,

"Chase Jennings! Chase’s living soul is still in my hands! If you arrest me, you’ll never get it back!

And if his living soul isn’t exchanged within three days, he’ll be gone forever! Release me, and I’ll return Chase’s soul to you!"

Azura tried to threaten them, and her words turned Donovan and his wife pale. They anxiously looked at Scarlett.

However, before Scarlett could respond, Donovan chuckled softly and said,

"Perhaps you haven’t heard—this morning, after you left, I had my bodyguards break down your apartment door and retrieve everything in there, including Chase Jennings himself. They’re currently en route back, and the doll trapping Chase’s soul should be among the lot."

Azura’s eyes widened in disbelief. "Impossible! How could you have known about that place...?"

Chase had assured her that property was purchased through a friend, with no connections traceable to the Jennings family.

Otherwise, she never would have dared to leave those dolls there.

As if recalling something, her gaze shot toward Scarlett, a mix of fear and hatred in her expression.

"It was you, wasn’t it? You calculated the apartment’s location long ago? You knew I had taken Chase and Grandma Jennings’ bodies but pretended to be oblivious!

Ha! Scarlett Jennings, you’re so cold-blooded, you didn’t even care about your own cousin and grandmother..."

Azura spoke deliberately.

She knew the living souls, though trapped within the dolls, could still hear voices from the outside world.

If she were to be taken away today, she’d at least plant a seed of doubt in Grandma Jennings’ heart!

If Scarlett had ruined her so completely, she wasn’t about to let her live peacefully in this family either!

Donovan immediately caught on to her intent. His gaze turned cold, and he stepped toward her to make her stop, but someone moved faster than he did.

Lucas pulled a Yellow Talisman from his pocket and, with a sharp slap, stuck it right on Azura’s mouth.

"How about you just shut up now!"

The instant the Talisman stuck, Azura could no longer speak. Her wide eyes were filled with shock as she stared at Lucas in disbelief.

Victor examined the Talisman closely, his expression curious.

"A Silence Talisman," he mused, turning to Lucas. "How did you get your hands on something like this?"

Lucas puffed up proudly, "My sister gave it to me."

Ever since he felt like he’d bumped into a ghost late one night, he’d carried protective Jade Tokens and all kinds of Talismans around just in case.

Looks like they came in handy after all.
