I felt my mother’s hand run through my hair once more and I couldn’t bring myself to ask anything more about our family’s history.

As my son drifted off to sleep into my arms, I held him close to my chest to get a better look at him

I had always known my son was special, but this... this was beyond anything I could have imagined.

The power he had displayed, the way his hair and eyes had changed - it all pointed to one inescapable truth.

The history of our family… the Godford bloodline was awakening in Julian, far earlier and far more potent than I had ever feared it would.

These events had occurred centuries ago, but I still feared for my son’s life as he grew up with our family’s blood coursing through his veins.

As I watched him, I couldn’t help but wonder if he had inherited any gifts from ’his’ side of the family - the side that he resembled more than mine.

It made me scared thinking about it…

"Oh Julian, what am I going to do with you?"

I knew that I couldn’t hide the truth from him much longer; his full powers would awaken at some point, and with it would come difficult questions about our family’s past, his father, and the weight of carrying such immense power.

"Ugh…"

A soft groan from across the room pulled me from my thoughts and I saw Lady Ophelia moving, her eyes fluttering open.

"Erica? What... what happened?"

I carefully laid Julian down on a nearby chaise lounge before hurrying to Lady Ophelia’s side.

"My lady, how are you feeling?"

Lady Ophelia blinked, confusion evident on her face.

"I... I feel... better. The pain, it’s gone. But I don’t understand. The last thing I remember... Ah! Aldric! He was... he tried to..."

"Shh, it’s alright," I soothed, taking Lady Ophelia’s hand. "Aldric has been... dealt with. You’re safe now."

Lady Ophelia’s gaze darted around the room, taking in the signs of struggle, the hole in the ceiling, and finally landing on Julian’s sleeping form.

"Your son... he was here. I think… I saw him, just for a moment. He... he did something. Something extraordinary I think..."

My heart skipped a beat. How much had Lady Ophelia seen? It was impossible to catch them fighting in the dark, so I wasn’t aware whether Ophelia was awake watching the fight from her bed.

"My lady, there’s much I need to tell you. About Aldric, about what’s been happening, and... and about my family. But first, we need to alert the guards and make sure you’re truly out of danger."

Lady Ophelia nodded, her eyes never leaving Julian.

"Yes, of course. But Erica... whatever your son did... know that you have my gratitude, and my protection. We will speak of this further, but for now, let us focus on securing the household."

The morning felt cold and I could feel every part of my body ache in pain.

But as soon as I opened my eyes, the system was there just waiting for me.

I blinked, trying to process the flood of information.

My head throbbed, but I couldn’t help but feel a surge of excitement.

Five hundred Skill Points, plus another thousand? And a Skill Point Level Up? I wasn’t entirely sure what that last one meant, but it sounded important.

With a groan, I pushed myself up to sit on the edge of the bed. The guest room at the Florence mansion was bathed in soft morning light, but I barely noticed my surroundings.

My focus was entirely on the translucent blue window hovering before me.

"Quest log," I muttered, and instantly a new window appeared.
