RUMBLE…RUMBLE…RUMBLE…

With each flash of lightning, the room was illuminated once again, revealing Aldric’s true intentions.

Erica could only stand by and watch as the only person who had given her a chance to work now faced death at the hands of her long-time superior, whom she had always trusted.

There was nothing she could do. The noise-cancelling barrier had two layers: an inner layer surrounding Ophelia and Aldric, and an outer layer that extended from outside the door.

Erica could sense the energy disturbances coming from Aldric, but he made no sound with each step he took.

The darkness beyond the barrier seemed impenetrable.

CRACK…

Aldric approached Lady Ophelia’s bed with slow, deliberate steps. In his hand, he held a dagger that seemed to pulse with an eerie, dark energy.

"You’ve been a thorn in our side for far too long, Ophelia, the Demonic Order sends its regards."

He raised the dagger, its blade glinting in another flash of lightning.

"NO!"

Erica struggled against the ropes, desperately trying to make any sound that might alert someone, anyone, to what was happening.

But the noise-cancelling barrier trapped any kind of sound from reaching the outside.

"Farewell,"

Just as Aldric was about to plunge the dagger into Lady Ophelia’s chest, a small figure burst through the door.

"…!"

Aldric heard a loud crash and whipped around, his eyes scanning the dark for the source of the disturbance. Out of the shadows emerged a small figure, just mere inches away from him.

WHOOOSH!

In a split second, they punched at Aldric’s face with such force that it shattered the sound barrier. Aldric managed to dodge, but still felt the immense wind pressure brush against his ear.

He stumbled back realising he had dropped his dagger beside Ophelia’s bed.

"Who are you? How did you break through the barrier?"

Aldric demanded as he stumbled back, realizing he had dropped his dagger near Ophelia’s bed.

"…"

The figure however, said nothing and launched into another series of attacks.

BOOM…BOOM…BOOM…

Aldric found himself on the defensive, desperately trying to fend off the onslaught.

Each punch and kick seemed to carry an impossible amount of force for such a tiny assailant.

-If I get hit by any of these attacks, it’ll be impossible to recover!

As they fought, flashes of lightning illuminated the room in sharp bursts, and within those small glimpses of lighting.

Aldric watched those glowing blue eyes zip through the dark.

"Impossible, no, child should have this kind of power!"

The small figure closed in once again, unleashing a surge of energy that streamed towards Aldric’s chest with deadly intent.

BOOM!

With lightning reflexes, Aldric sidestepped at the last moment again, narrowly avoiding the devastating attack.

The sheer force of it caused cracks and splinters to shoot across the wall behind him, emphasizing the raw power wielded by his mysterious opponent.

Despite his training and experience, Aldric found himself pushed to his limits by this unexpected foe.

-I’ve trained as an assassin all my life, yet… this mere child is able to read all my movements without a second thought. I need to try something!

In a burst of desperate inspiration, Aldric reached into his pocket and pulled out a small vial filled with a dark liquid.

With a swift motion, he uncorked it and splashed the contents towards his attacker.

"Let’s see how you handle this, brat!"

The liquid hissed and sizzled as it flew, giving off an acrid stench.

But just as it was about to make contact, the small figure seemed to... flicker, almost like a mirage.

In the blink of an eye, they had moved, the poisonous liquid splashing harmlessly against the far wall.

Aldric’s eyes widened in disbelief. "What in the name of-"

BAM!

His words were cut short as a small fist connected with his solar plexus, driving the air from his lungs.

He stumbled backwards, gasping for breath.

"You... you’re no ordinary child," he wheezed, clutching his stomach.

"Who sent you? The SMA?, Black hearts? or did the Order send you here to kill me?"

The figure didn’t respond, instead they slowly walked towards Aldric, disregarding any of thought of mercy.

DASH...

They moved with a fluid grace that seemed impossible for someone so young, each strike precise and devastatingly powerful.

BOOM, BOOM, BOOM!

Aldric found himself being driven back, step by step.

Realizing he was back next to Ophelia, he snatched the dagger, twisted, and tried to stab her.

But a hand stopped him mid air, the blade barely touching the chest of Ophelia.

He realised his wrist was caught mid-swing. For a second, Aldric was frozen, staring into those bright blue eyes.

CRACK...

Then, with a twist and a sharp crack, Aldric felt his wrist snap.

The dagger he held onto tightly fell into the hands of the child.

"You little bastard, do you have any idea what you’ve done? The plans you’ve ruined?"

The small figure remained silent, those eerie blue eyes never leaving Aldric’s face.

In the flashes of lightning, Aldric could see the child’s features more clearly now - a young boy, no more than five or six years old.

But those eyes... they held a knowledge and judgment far beyond his years.

Aldric panicked, searching for a solution. He was cornered, injured, and facing an opponent he couldn’t hope to overpower. His eyes darted around the room, looking for any possible escape route.

That’s when he saw it - Erica, still bound and gagged, watching the scene unfold with wide, terrified eyes. A cruel smile spread across Aldric’s face as a plan formed in his desperate mind.

With a sudden burst of speed, he lunged towards Erica, grabbing her and pulling her in front of him like a human shield.

He fumbled in his pocket with his good hand, producing another vial of poison.

"One more step," he hissed, holding the vial threateningly over Erica’s head, "and I’ll pour this down her throat. You may be fast, boy, but are you fast enough to save her?"

The child froze, those glowing blue eyes flickering between Aldric and Erica.

For the first time, Aldric saw a hint of uncertainty in that unnaturally calm face.

"That’s right, not so tough now, are we? Here’s what’s going to happen. You’re going to let me walk out of here, nice and slow. Once I’m clear, I’ll release the woman. Try anything clever, and she dies. Understand?"

"…"

The boy’s eyes narrowed, and for a moment, Aldric thought he saw a flash of something else in those blue depths. Not fear, but... calculation?

Before he could ponder it further, the child gave a small, almost imperceptible nod.

Aldric edged towards the door, dragging Erica with him.

His heart pounded in his chest, adrenaline coursing through his veins. He was almost there, almost free...

Suddenly, the boy made a strange hand gesture, as if shooting something from his fingertips.

"…?"

Aldric was taken aback, unsure of what was happening, as he had never seen such a gesture before.

"Bang."

Before he could react, a blast of blue energy hit him in the forehead, rendering him unconscious.
