The Extra's Reincarnation-Chapter 107 : The Chief (6)
"Bang…"
A translucent bullet of mana pierced through Kyran mid-sentence, a pinpoint explosion tearing through his side.
The shockwave sent him spiraling off course, pain and surprise contorting his monstrous features.
-Impossible!
His mind raced to comprehend what had just happened.
He hadn't seen Julian prepare a spell. Not even a single word of incantation or flicker of movement—nothing that should have been possible.
"You…!"
He snarled, rage mixing with disbelief as he struggled to regain control.
-How could someone cast without a name? Without a chant?
Julian's silhouette closed in with relentless speed, red eyes locked onto Kyran with the intent to kill.
The realization hit Kyran like another bullet.
He'd been simply caught off guard, something he thought inconceivable against these so-called humans.
"Wasn't expecting that?"
"…I bet you aren't expecting this either,"
Julian's voice echoed through the air as he gripped his sword with both hands.
A strange aura began to surround the entire blade, a glow that seemed to draw in the very essence of life itself.
"Wha-what?!"
Kyran hadn't registered Julian's movements, couldn't have expected anything like this.
"Inertia Style," Julian called out, the words crisp and clear. "Formless Slash: Divider."
HWAMM!!
A blinding slash manifested into reality, creating a deep horizontal line that cut all the way down to the ground.
The sheer force of it left a canyon sized slash, wide enough to destroy a thin-sized castle.
Kyran was hit with not just Julian's sword but the manifestation of his attack—a cataclysmic strike that overwhelmed him entirely.
For an instant, everything was silence and light.
Then it was over.
His body was severed into two, unable to ever understand that speed of Julian.
And finally...
At the hands of a commander on the ground, the chief always takes his win.
_____
Akk...
Kyran lay on the ground, helpless. He had been defeated but not killed, his vampiric and elven heritage left him alive but shattered.
-How did he do that... a human, with an actual sword... I thought the era of chivalry is dead?!
His body struggled to recover from the shock, something he hadn't experienced in so long that it left him confused.
Julian walked over to Kyran's body, watching as the grotesque form slowly began to regenerate.
But this time, the process was sluggish, almost pitiful in its pace.
Like a snail running for its life.
"Why do you linger, boy?"
Vykekard's voice boomed from the helmet that floated beside Julian.
"You've already cut him down."
"He's still alive," Julian replied, glaring at the twitching form of a commander of the black hearts.
"Barely."
A pause, then a loud chuckle from Vykekard.
"You think you can kill a vampire so easily? Oh-no! We have more work ahead!"
"So that's it then? He's…"
"But... he's a vampire indeed!" Vykekard confirmed with both mirth and frustration.
"A species said to be extinct—yet here he is, breathing still!"
"And how do I finish him off?"
"You'll need more than just steel."
"To kill a vampire, it's said you'll need a stake and cross to properly exorcise him. But he's a unique variant, older than most, since they were supposedly wiped out during my time."
"What you need is a divine blessing or holy magic. Whether in your sword or energy flowing into your fist, either could work—but alas, you have none of that."
"Then how do we stop him from coming back?"
A pause stretched as Vykekard contemplated, the silence thick with anticipation.
Then suddenly, he let out a booming laugh.
"Ho! I have it! Something even he won't expect!"
Julian readied himself for whatever crazy idea was about to unfold.
"We bury him alive!" Vykekard declared triumphantly.
"In the ground, encased in solid mana! A boulder around his body so thick and dense that not even light can escape!"
The audacity of the plan struck Julian like a revelation. It was madness—a fitting madness.
"So simple it just might work," Julian said, as a grin spread across his face.
"If he can't move, can't breathe, can't call on his powers—he'll be trapped for eternity!"
"Ah… you're right…"
Without another word, Julian set to work.
Grabbing a shovel from one of the undead guards, Julian swiftly made a massive ditch caved with a crack as if it had been waiting for someone to put it out of its misery.
"...!"
"You can't leave me here! I-I will rise again!" Kyran's enraged voice echoed from the depths.
Ignoring the threats, Julian formed a massive boulder-like cocoon of solid mana around Kyran.
"I will return you here me!"
"...And when I do! I'll-"
WHOM!
It clamped shut with cold finality, encasing him in darkness.
"Now for the finishing touch."
Whistling merrily while shoveling dirt, Julian began to bury Kyran in the hole.
"You think this cage will hold me forever?" Kyran's muffled taunts continued, defiant even in defeat.
"I am eternal!"
"Yeah...yeah...you keep talking while you're at it. I'm almost finished."
"Would you expect anything less?" Vykekard added with a laugh.
The dirt piled higher and higher, covering the mana shell completely.
Julian shoveled with passion, making sure there were no inch of patches left on Kyran's graveyard.
"Burying my problems has never been so fun,"
"Ho! And look at your form! A true master, even at shoveling!"
With one last scoop, Julian patted down the ground and stood back to admire their handiwork—a perfect little dirt patch with a not-so-perfect enemy beneath it.
"Think he's comfortable?"
Vykekard let out another booming laugh.
"Oh-ho! I doubt he'll get much sleep cooped up like that!"
"A job well done then," Julian said, tossing the shovel aside.

At least I had some options. If I could spare the points...
But it's not like I could be mad about it either. I had spent most of my years' training, subjugating dungeons, doing missions, studying magic theory, farming points, and most importantly learning Vykekard's technique or what he calls 'Inertia's Style'.
Although he explains quite vaguely the forms, he never really spoke of the name 'Inertia'.
Not when I asked directly, not even when I tried to use the element of surprise—his usual chatter would go silent.
It was the only time he ever shut up.
What exactly is Inertia's Style?
I'd never heard of it before he mentioned it. The original novel didn't say a word about such a technique.
Was it some secret he intended for me to solve? Some lost art no one else knew? Or was his curse keeping him from saying more?
I pondered these questions as I surveyed the surrounding rubble, my eyes catching a glimpse of something familiar.
Underneath the debris, barely scratched, were the missing shipments.
"Well, that was easier than expected,"
Before taking them back, there was something I needed to do first.
Around me were bodies—human, dwarf, elf, and monster alike. Each had been under Kyran's spell, twisted into mindless puppets.
But even in their desperation to kill me, I saw what they truly wanted.
Freedom.
They deserved a prayer.
I stood in silence among the fallen, my head bowed in respect.
"May the Great Tree embrace you and guide you to the land of souls,"
"May you find peace in the next life..."
The words felt right. Even if they couldn't hear me anymore, I hoped they reached them somehow.
I could only hope that the King Of Spirits heard my prayer to these poor souls.
Because in this world, not only does the abyss dimension exist but a kingdom of spirits exists too.
It was a vague plot point that even the original novel never really expanded on—there were passing references to these two worlds and their roles, but nothing concrete.
From what I understood, it was almost like heaven and hell; souls properly sent off with prayer moved on to become spirits, while those that weren't inevitably fell into the abyss where they were corrupted and transformed into monsters.

Perhaps that's why the the demonic soldiers I fought back then always had an empty look in their eyes...
If I hadn't sent them off properly, what kind of wretched existence would have awaited these people?
"Haah... It's to much to think about."
I shook off the thought as I turned my attention back to the recovered shipments.
With that solemn duty complete, I gathered the shipments and made my way back to Silverleaf City.
