Liu Banxia followed Xiao Yue into the kitchen. The two closed the door and began to whisper, leaving the others outside somewhat confused.

It wasn't that they suspected anything amiss between them; rather, similar to Liu Banxia's own thoughts, they were wondering if it was a matter of life and death.

What else could it be?

Director Xiao was at home, wasn't he? What problems could they possibly have that they couldn't ask him about?

"Sister Qiaoqiao, why are you all looking at me like that? I honestly don't know what's going on," Qiu Mingyuan said.

"Kid, be honest. Did something happen accidentally?" Qiaoqiao asked.

"Are you my real sister or what? We're all grown up, not clueless kids anymore," Qiu Mingyuan said, unsure whether to laugh or cry.

"TSK, TSK. Young people these days are really something else," Qiaoqiao said with a grin.

"Sister Qiaoqiao, what do you think Yueyue is up to with Brother Liu?" Qiu Mingyuan asked.

Qiaoqiao shrugged. "How would I know? It's fine; I'll just interrogate him when he comes out."

Qiu Mingyuan nodded with a troubled expression, also worried about Xiao Yue's health. Other than health issues, he couldn't think of anything else.

About half an hour later, Liu Banxia and Xiao Yue finally came out.

The expressions on their faces startled everyone. It seemed as though something serious had indeed happened. Why else would they both look so grave?

"What's wrong?" Qiaoqiao asked.

"Can't say. Uh... you all stay home. I'm taking Yueyue out for a bit," Liu Banxia said.

"Brother Liu, be serious, will you? What are you two up to? Is Yueyue not feeling well?" Qiu Mingyuan asked anxiously.

"Oh, I really can't say. Brother Liu and I will be back soon," Xiao Yue said.

They definitely couldn't say. This involved her classmate and a case; it couldn't be discussed carelessly.

The more secretive the two acted, the more curious everyone else became.

"Um, it's about someone else's business. So, the fewer people who know, the better. Qiaoqiao, let me borrow your car to go out. Mine is a bit too conspicuous," Liu Banxia said.

"AHEM, AHEM, AHEM..." Wang Xiaoyan, who had been listening intently, choked on his words.

Qiaoqiao owned a Porsche and a Lexus SUV. Either was more luxurious than Liu Banxia's A6L. Wouldn't they be even more conspicuous?

"Hehe, tell Jinbao to keep a private room for me. Not for a meal, just for tea and to discuss something. It has to be our own place to feel secure. Be good now; when I get back, we'll go to Brother Qiu's place for a free meal," Liu Banxia said, shaking Qiaoqiao's arm coquettishly.

This display astonished even Xiao Yue. Brother Liu has such a wheedling side to him?

"Oh, honestly! Aren't you embarrassed? Just go. Come back early, or we'll have to wait for you for dinner," Qiaoqiao said, patting him.

"Tell Sister Xian she needs to make lots of good food. It's not easy for me to get a day off; I need to improve my quality of life!" Liu Banxia said.

"And you stay home too, alright? Don't follow us," Xiao Yue also instructed Qiu Mingyuan. Then the two of them walked out directly.

"Yueyue, we have a car at home too!" Qiu Huaiyuan made one last attempt.

"Just stay home. Your family's car is too conspicuous," Xiao Yue shot him a glare over her shoulder.

Qiu Mingyuan opened his mouth but was truly at a loss for words.

"Brother Liu, Brother Liu, do you think my classmate will face retaliation?" Xiao Yue asked anxiously once they were in the Lexus.

"Don't worry. Didn't Captain Shen just say they'll handle it confidentially? Besides, it's just to understand some details. Otherwise, why would they agree to meet at Jinbao?" Liu Banxia said.

"That's good then. Sigh... How could their nerve be so audacious?" Xiao Yue sighed.

Liu Banxia remained silent. This matter was indeed significant, and it wasn't just a question of audacity. According to her classmate, she knew that three other girls also had similar intentions.

This was precisely why her classmate agreed to talk to the police, but only after Xiao Yue had carefully explained the dangers of egg retrieval.

As soon as they entered Jinbao, the lobby manager hurried over to greet them.

"Dr. Liu, Room 205, the Auspicious Hall. Your guests have arrived. Tea, pastries, and fruit have been prepared."

"Thanks. I knew you'd have it all arranged. Yueyue, wait downstairs for your classmate, then you can go straight up," Liu Banxia said.

Xiao Yue nodded, her expression somewhat tense.

Even though she was a child who had seen and experienced much, this situation was quite significant, something she had never encountered in her life.

Although they didn't know why the boss was so openly bringing a young girl along, no one pried, as the boss himself had given the instructions.

When they arrived at the Auspicious Hall and had just walked in, Captain Shen immediately stood up. "Dr. Liu, isn't this a bit too extravagant?"

"Don't worry, this is my wife's restaurant; the private room would be idle otherwise. The girl hasn't arrived yet. I had Yueyue wait downstairs for her," Liu Banxia said with a smile.

"Please, everyone, don't stand on ceremony. This doesn't count as bribery. Otherwise, what's the point of just sitting around? Work is already hard enough. We doctors, for instance, sometimes try to sneak in a nap whenever we can to conserve energy."

"Sigh... Thank you, Dr. Liu. This current case has hit a dead end. We're just hoping to find some useful leads this time," Captain Shen sighed.

"Doesn't the old saying go, 'He who often walks by the riverside will eventually get his shoes wet'? As long as these people dare to continue their wrongdoing, they'll definitely be caught," Liu Banxia said.

"Criminals will eventually be brought to justice, but the longer it drags on, the more victims there will be. We previously only suspected that their dark reach had extended into middle schools," Captain Shen said.

"Perhaps it's because we've intensified our investigations around university campuses lately. It's truly distressing; these kids don't understand anything and have no idea how dangerous it is."

Liu Banxia nodded. "They essentially use deception to fool people. Once anesthesia is administered, under general anesthesia, what would the children know?"

"Even if you did find out, what could you do? If they intimidate you, and you're too timid or ashamed, you can only suffer in silence, unable to voice your grievances."

"Were the leads provided by that patient from our hospital last time not useful? They should have been somewhat effective, right? Isn't technology quite advanced these days?"

"Some leads were indeed very useful. However, they might have become aware of our actions, as the two lines of inquiry we were pursuing both went cold," Captain Shen said.

"People like them would never use their real information to register for anything. But we haven't given up. Let's persevere; hopefully, we can achieve a breakthrough this time."

These were matters within their professional domain, so Liu Banxia didn't interject. He was just a bystander who happened to be present, after all.

「Another twenty minutes or so later」

Xiao Yue led her classmate into the private room.

"Hello, Dr. Liu," the young girl greeted him when she saw Liu Banxia.

Liu Banxia immediately gave her a thumbs-up. "Good girl, you understand the bigger picture. Don't be afraid. Captain Shen here might not be as handsome as I am, but he's a genuinely good person."

"In a moment, just tell Captain Shen everything you know. You're saving people by doing this. Yueyue and I will wait outside."

"Weiwei, you can do it," Xiao Yue encouraged her.

"Dr. Liu, can you stay here?" Weiwei asked, a little worried.

"I'm afraid not. Yueyue and I are just ordinary citizens. This matter involves principles of confidentiality. Once it's done, Yueyue and I will take you home. We'll just say you went out to play with Yueyue," Liu Banxia said with a smile.

"You've heard my speeches, haven't you? I never lie. The pastries, fruits, and dried nuts here – help yourselves. Anything brought out can't be sold to other customers anyway."

"Captain Shen, I'm entrusting her to you. You have to find a way to get justice for our Weiwei. How could they deceive people like that? Or perhaps I should arrange for a few more dishes? You can eat while you talk?"

"These are more than enough. We should also start our work quickly, striving to bring these individuals to justice as soon as possible," Captain Shen said.

He was somewhat familiar with Liu Banxia's playful side. He also noticed that the girl named Weiwei seemed much calmer after seeing Liu Banxia; she wasn't as nervous as when she had first entered.

Liu Banxia gave Xiao Yue a meaningful look, and the two of them stepped out.

Even though Weiwei had already told them the general situation, what followed was official police procedure, and it wasn't appropriate for them, as third-party civilians, to be present.

"Brother Liu, thank you," Xiao Yue said.

"What's there to thank me for? Anyone with a normal thought process would do the same if they encountered something like this," Liu Banxia said.

"They're just bullying kids for their lack of medical knowledge. It's often like this, exploiting information asymmetry. What do you want to eat? We can't just sit here doing nothing."

"By the way, what dishes does Weiwei like? I'll have the kitchen prepare them. We asked the kid to come out and help; she deserves some kind of reward."

"Why are you coaxing her like a small child? I'll order for Weiwei. How long do you think they'll talk?" Xiao Yue asked.

"Prepare for about an hour. They'll need to confirm some information repeatedly. Go ahead and order; don't try to save me money. Consider it a chance for me to indirectly 'bribe' a leader," Liu Banxia said.

"Don't worry, I won't hold back. Jinbao's food is delicious," Xiao Yue said with a grin.

She knew Liu Banxia's financial situation, so she genuinely wouldn't try to save him money on this. However, she wouldn't be overly extravagant either. This could be considered compensation for Weiwei's trouble; after all, she had shown immense courage.

"Hey, Banxia, what are you doing here?" a voice suddenly sounded from behind Liu Banxia.

Liu Banxia turned around and, seeing it was Liu Haibing, grinned. "Just handling a small matter. Are you here for a get-together?"

"Just meeting up with a few friends. Are you busy? If not, come over for a couple of drinks. Let them meet you," Liu Haibing said enthusiastically.

"I drove, so no drinks, but I can come over and say hello. But let's get this straight: once I step down as chief resident, I definitely owe you a proper meal," Liu Banxia said.

"Alright. You saved my life; I should be the one treating you," Liu Haibing said cheerfully, clapping him on the shoulder.

This was Liu Banxia showing him respect.
