The Enhanced Doctor-Chapter 722 Tricking Wang Chao
The female patient was rather lucky. She didn't have any cysts, tumors, or congenital structural abnormalities on her ovaries. She just had some edema, which caused an ovarian torsion. Fortunately, there was no ischemic necrosis, and simply repositioning the ovary was enough. For her, this was also a stroke of immense luck.
Of the three surgical patients, she was the first to be discharged from the operating room, followed by Chen Xuehai's patient, and lastly, the patient with a fractured leg whom Wu Mingyu had taken.
By the time Wu Mingyu came out of the operating room, it was already past six in the afternoon.
"Oh, Teacher Wang, you also joined the surgery?" Seeing Wang Bo walking back with him, Liu Banxia quickly went to greet them.
"I had to call Teacher Wang in. The injury was too complex; I couldn't handle it alone. How are the other patients?" Wu Mingyu asked.
"Unfortunately, the first patient didn't make it. The others have all had their surgeries and debridement completed," Liu Banxia said. "Everyone, take a good rest. Then I'll treat you all to a meal. I've already informed Manager Zhou, as well as Director Fang and their program team. We'll all eat together."
"Go ahead and eat without worry. I eat fast, so I can come back quickly to cover the shift with Wang Chao and the interns. All of you get some good rest."
"Haha, Banxia, we won't be polite then! I need to go change my clothes quickly," Wang Bo joked.
"Of course. I've already notified the anesthesia department in advance," Liu Banxia said. "Today's emergency rescue operation has also highlighted the strength of our emergency center. As for the brain-dead patient, there was truly nothing we could do. The remaining three should have a very positive prognosis after their operations."
"Teacher Wang, don't hold back," Wu Mingyu said.
"Today is indeed worth celebrating. Banxia also did an excellent job with the triage," Wang Bo nodded.
He felt a warmth spread through him, sensing Liu Banxia's genuine respect. The upcoming dinner arrangement further pleased him. Even if it wasn't a fancy restaurant meal, the gesture itself was comforting.
Before coming to the emergency center, he had heard about the little "activities" often held here. In truth, no one really fretted about the cost of a meal.
This was like an acknowledgment of his hard work, even if it was merely internal, it was precious.
Others might just get a casual greeting. In the entire Second Hospital, only Liu Banxia would organize something like this. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
A large group of people strolling to the cafeteria was quite a spectacle.
Indeed, only the emergency center was capable of pulling off such a feat, and within the emergency center, only Liu Banxia could orchestrate it.
Initially, these gatherings were limited to him and the interns, but they gradually expanded, even drawing in the Chief Director.
At first, many people thought this kind of thing was too boisterous and disruptive. But looking at it now, it seemed to stir a touch of envy in others.
But it was just envy. Such large-scale "operations" only happened in the emergency center—not just celebratory meals, but also massive emergency admission responses like today's.
After arranging things at the cafeteria and having a quick, hearty meal, Liu Banxia rushed back to the emergency center. He wasn't entirely comfortable leaving Wang Chao to manage things alone.
"Why are you back so quickly?" Wang Chao asked.
"I'm full. So, how are things? I heard you and Limin have been hitting it off recently," Liu Banxia said casually.
Wang Chao gave him a wary glance. "No."
"What nonsense. Ma Limin was here this afternoon, and we chatted for a long time. Don't forget, I wasn't in surgery," Liu Banxia said. "But she did complain quite a bit to me. She said that although you've changed a little compared to before and have become slightly more proactive, you're still a bit too timid."
"President Liu, did she really say that? Seriously?" Wang Chao hesitated.
"Why wouldn't she? Weren't you just praising me earlier? And since she was on duty today, we naturally chatted for a while longer. After all, today's accident was a big one, right?" Liu Banxia retorted.
"Sigh, why does that girl tell you everything?" Wang Chao lamented.
"You need to be proactive when the situation calls for it. Don't always be so vague and ambiguous," Liu Banxia said. "Both of you are already busy. She has her patrols, and you have your shifts. Soon, you'll be promoted to Chief Resident. Where will you find the time for a relationship then?"
"So, just be straightforward and decisive. What's the point of all this guessing? You might even guess the wrong things. Time waits for no one, my friend. You've got to speed things up."
"By the way, I plan to recommend you to the director for Chief Resident of the inpatient wards upstairs. We can have Qi Wentai handle the reception downstairs. What do you think?"
"Uh... oh, oh, okay. Anything is fine with me," Wang Chao hurriedly said.
Liu Banxia's topic changed too quickly, jumping from one major life event to another.
"But don't misunderstand," Liu Banxia continued. "This doesn't mean you'll only be in charge of the wards and can forget about everything else. You'll still need to handle regular daytime admissions; it's just that your focus will be slightly different. For example, you'll also need to dedicate some effort to the fecal transplant project. Speaking of which, how is that patient doing after the transplant?"
Wang Chao shook his head. "The outcome isn't as good as with my first patient. I plan to perform another transplant tomorrow. If there's no significant improvement after two days of observation, I'll try a different donor sample."
Liu Banxia patted him on the shoulder. "These things are unpredictable. Fecal transplants inherently involve a degree of luck. Take your time; don't rush it."
"In my personal opinion, you should sort things out with Officer Ma as soon as possible. Once you're really promoted to Chief Resident, will you still have this much free time?"
"Oh, right, I plan to mention this to the director after the meeting tomorrow. That way, you can start your new position sooner and at least endure one less month of hardship."
Wang Chao opened his mouth, genuinely bewildered by Liu Banxia's whirlwind of topics. What is all this? he thought. Can't we just discuss one thing at a time? Why mix everything together? My brain can barely keep up.
He had no idea what was really going on. Liu Banxia was merely making deductions based on Ma Limin's reactions. However, his guesses were pretty much spot on. Although the two hadn't officially started dating, they had definitely been keeping in touch secretly.
In this regard, Liu Banxia trusted his own judgment.
Some relationships need to simmer slowly. However, considering their professions as doctors and the existing dynamic between Wang Chao and Ma Limin, Liu Banxia felt a more intense approach would be better for them.
Otherwise, if they let things simmer for too long, they might waste several years. This wouldn't just affect the two of them, but also their future children.
After giving Wang Chao a pep talk, Liu Banxia sat down, turned on his computer, and pulled up the surgical recording from the operating room. He still had some questions about that patient's ovarian torsion.
Ovarian torsion wasn't a common condition; its incidence rate wasn't high. Moreover, most cases were due to congenital factors, such as an overly long fallopian tube or mesentery.
The most common cause, however, was the presence of a cyst or tumor on the ovary, which then led to the torsion.
This patient's situation was different. She didn't have any of the aforementioned conditions; her ovarian torsion was caused by ovarian edema.
What exactly caused the ovarian inflammation? That was what Liu Banxia couldn't figure out. In other words, the true underlying cause of the patient's ovarian torsion was still unknown.
Of course, there was also the possibility that the edema was a result of the ovarian torsion. However, in the absence of congenital factors, cysts, or tumors, Liu Banxia believed Shi Lei's diagnosis was sound.
However, just by looking at the test results and the surgical video, there was no way to be certain. To truly determine the cause, he would have to ask the patient directly.
"President Liu, you said I should be direct and just tell her how I feel. Will that really work?" Wang Chao asked, sidling up to him again.
Liu Banxia rolled his eyes. "Why wouldn't it? Of course, it will. Don't overthink this; just do as I say."
"Next time, you can introduce her to Qiaoqiao and let Qiaoqiao give you some support. Anyway, I think Qiaoqiao can be quite helpful in these matters. Shi Lei and Su Ying are getting along very well now, for example."
Wang Chao nodded. "Okay, I'll think about it some more. This whole situation is so frustrating. Actually, I've never really been in a relationship before."
"Really? You've been on so many blind dates, and you've never actually dated anyone?" Liu Banxia suddenly perked up.
Now it was Wang Chao's turn to roll his eyes. Why did I have to say that? he thought. Now that I've piqued his interest, I'll never hear the end of it.
"President Liu, I need to correct your perception," Wang Chao said. "Going on blind dates isn't the same as actually dating someone. I was a good student back in the day, focused solely on my studies."
"You know, I used to envy those born into official or wealthy families. But now, I think we ordinary folks have a pretty good life," Liu Banxia commented with a smile. "If you perform well, people think it's only natural because you're a 'second-generation official' or 'second-generation rich.' But if you don't perform well? Then you're done for. You become 'so-and-so's good-for-nothing kid,' relying on your family connections to mess around."
"Do you ever have such concerns? Anyway, right now, I'm quite content with who I am. Of course, my future kids might carry some burdens."
"Hahahaha, good! Just you wait, there will come a time when you'll have your own headaches," Wang Chao laughed, finally feeling cheerful.
Who could possibly get the better of Liu Banxia? Probably only his yet-to-be-born child.
"What are you laughing about? As if you won't have kids in the future," Liu Banxia retorted with a grin.
Wang Chao was stunned. That's right, he thought. I'll have kids in the future too, and I'll probably be tormented by my own children as well.
