Chapter 714: 714 "Liu Banxia Speed" reappears

For the current Liu Banxia and Qiaoqiao, a day off was really not enough. After enjoying two meals at the Qiu family’s home and taking a nap, it was time to go back to work.

"Let Yanzi and Jiaojiao play when it’s time to play; don’t let them be idle," Liu Banxia instructed seriously before getting into the car.

"Oh, how come I find you’ve become so fussy? You weren’t like this before," Qiaoqiao said with a sigh.

"That’s because you haven’t noticed my good side. If you’re hungry, go over to Brother Qiu’s for food. Tang Dou, take good care of her," Liu Banxia said.

"WOOF... WOOF WOOF..."

Hearing Liu Banxia call his name, Tang Dou barked along, regardless of what was happening.

"You little traitor, listening to him and not me," Qiaoqiao grumbled, ruffling Tang Dou’s head.

In her heart, though, she was truly reluctant to see him go. Even though they lived in the same city and were married, she always felt like they were in a long-distance relationship. Not seeing him for over a week at a time—wasn’t that long-distance? What difference did it make if they were in the same city? She used to be able to visit the hospital often, but not anymore. Now that she was pregnant, there were too many germs there. Besides, she worried that frequent visits would disrupt Liu Banxia’s work. It wasn’t as if they were parting tearfully, but deep down, she still felt a pang of reluctance.

After their playful exchange, she felt a little more at ease. Only Tang Dou was a bit confused, wondering what had just happened.

"Dr. Liu, you really should spend more time with Qiaoqiao," Qing Kewa said on the way to the hospital.

"There’s no helping it; you know what our work is like," Liu Banxia replied. "Let’s take it slow; things will get better. Anyway, I’ll be stepping down from my current post soon, so I’ll be at home at least five days a week after that."

In theory, he would only need to be on one night shift in the future, but that was just in theory. There were often unexpected situations at the hospital. Sometimes, the condition of a patient he had just operated on was complicated but not serious enough for the ICU, so he would need to stay at the hospital to monitor them. In fact, it was only because the emergency center had enough surgeons that they could enjoy such a manageable shift rotation. Now that the emergency center was well-known, it wasn’t enough to just have one surgeon on night duty. If the dispatch center sent over many patients, they needed enough surgeons to handle the influx.

Although Qing Kewa had known Liu Banxia first, she and Qiaoqiao were truly like sisters. So, if she had to choose sides, she would definitely side with Qiaoqiao. However, she knew what Liu Banxia’s work situation was like and couldn’t force him on this matter.

"How is the patient from the night before last?" Liu Banxia asked after arriving at the emergency center.

"Don’t even mention it; we were incredibly busy," Wang Chao said. "I was even thinking you must have foreseen it and ran home."

"Two critically injured, a pile of injuries ranging from minor to severe. It was a major incident. Fortunately, no lives were lost, and both critically injured patients were resuscitated, but a few suffered permanent disabilities."

"Wow, what happened? What kind of grudge could be that serious?" Liu Banxia asked in astonishment.

"A serious grudge? What would you think if I told you it was a group of middle school children?" Wang Chao said.

"This... this... Never mind, I’d better go change," Liu Banxia said, shaking his head.

Regarding this, Liu Banxia really didn’t know what to say. How big of a grudge could there be between children? They were just impulsive kids. It was almost certainly over some trivial matter, yet it had led to such a tragedy.

"Director Fang, is today the last day?" Liu Banxia asked after changing, seeing Director Fang walk by.

"Haha, our shooting schedule has been extended by two days," Director Fang said with a laugh. "Did you regret not being here for the rescue filming last night? If you had been here, we would definitely have arranged for a camera to follow you."

Liu Banxia chuckled. "I do have a bit of regret, but not because of that. It’s because I had a drink and didn’t dare treat patients. I ended up making everyone else busier, which made me feel like I was slacking off."

"How was your chat with Director Jiang from Proctology last time?" Director Fang asked. "The Proctology department here is sure to make some moves. Are you [the film crew] thinking of tracking their progress for the show?"

"Well, you’ve certainly put me on the spot," Director Fang said. "Perhaps if there’s a chance in the future, we could do a follow-up program here to show a comparison. However, that also depends on the TV station’s arrangements; I don’t have that much authority. But I’m confident in making this episode a success because I’ve really enjoyed the time I’ve spent here."

Liu Banxia nodded. "That’s good then. I was always worried my random suggestions might disrupt your plans. As long as you’re satisfied and nothing was disrupted, then that’s the greatest success."

"So, show us your debridement skills today," Director Fang suggested. "Director Jiang praised them so highly, we must film it."

"Let’s wait and see," Liu Banxia said. "I need to check if many patients have registered today. If the pediatrics department is still swamped, I’ll have to help out there first before I can start debridement consultations."

"That’s not a problem, which is why I applied for two extra days," Director Fang said.

Liu Banxia was speechless. What was so special about this that was worth filming? Applying for two extra days just for this? It didn’t seem worth it. But he decided to let Director Fang have his way; it was up to him how he wanted to film, and at most, they would just use a few shots.

After checking, the situation looked pretty good. Following the recent peak, the number of pediatric patients had dropped significantly today. However, this didn’t mean the pediatrics department wasn’t busy. Some of the children seen in the previous few days needed continuous IV drips and still had to come in.

"How’s the patient who was bitten by a chigger mite?" Liu Banxia called Xu Yino over to ask.

"He’s much better; his temperature has dropped," Xu Yino reported. "The anticoagulant and thrombolysis treatment is also working well, and his breathing is smooth now. However, his love life is currently a mess. He really does have another girlfriend on the side. The one who’s here with him now is his actual wife."

"What kind of gossip is this?" Liu Banxia said. "Come and assist me with debridement and suturing. It seems there aren’t many patients today; be a good assistant."

"Hahaha, okay!" Xu Yino replied cheerfully.

Liu Banxia shook his head helplessly, genuinely not understanding what they were thinking. It’s just debridement, isn’t it? Even though his skills were excellent and he was fast, they didn’t need to be *this* excited.

You could say this was Liu Banxia’s long-awaited "return to action." The last time he had to step in like this was because of a major accident. After all, given his current position, having him focus on debridement was somewhat of an underutilization of his talents. Furthermore, if there were matters needing his consultation, it could delay his other responsibilities.

The pediatric nurses were thrilled when he went to help them. Now, seeing him put on a mask and gloves and enter the treatment room, the emergency center nurses were also excited. He was such a capable worker. With Liu Banxia in charge, patients needing debridement today would be treated almost as soon as they arrived. This would also greatly reduce the pressure on the consultation service. When doctors saw patients, the nurses were also very busy with many auxiliary tasks.

While Liu Banxia was performing debridement inside, Director Fang was outside discussing the filming with the waiting patients. This required prior consent, as wounds are considered private medical information. It wasn’t like they could film from a distance and be done with it; this would involve close-up shots, possibly even extreme close-ups.

Then, Director Fang truly experienced what was known as "Liu Banxia speed"—it wasn’t just an empty boast. He had observed the debridement procedure over the past two days. Many doctors were meticulous in their cleaning to ensure thoroughness. But with Liu Banxia? He would just take an iodine-soaked cotton ball, give a swift wipe, and the area would be clean. If that were all, it wouldn’t be particularly remarkable. But he also chatted with the patients. No matter what expression patients wore when they came in, they always left with a smile. This unique approach to consultation was very interesting for Director Fang to watch. He was also one of the people Liu Banxia chatted with. After all, the final cut would only need the visuals, not the audio.

In less than two hours, all the current patients had been treated.

Liu Banxia stretched. "The morning’s work is almost done, Director Fang. Anything else you want to film? I’m game."

"The shots we have for now are enough. You truly are fast," Director Fang said.

"It’s not as impressive as everyone thinks; I’m just well-practiced," Liu Banxia said. "No matter the work, you can improve as long as you persist. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have suggested to Director Jiang that he have the doctors practice their dressing changing techniques. Most of the time, we think things are hard, but once you actually get started, you realize it’s not so bad. Is medical school hard? But didn’t we all manage to graduate?"

"Every profession has its own hardships, which is why I have high expectations for Xu Yino and the others. Whether or not they’ll succeed is secondary; first, they must put in the hard work. If they succeed, that’s the reward. If not, they won’t have regrets. They’ll always gain something; it’s just a matter of whether the improvement is large or small."

"They’re all good kids. Even though I’ve pushed them really hard, they bear the burden without complaint. If you have time, Director Fang, I’d suggest you focus on them and give them some good screen time."

"Teacher Liu, are you really going to film us?" Xu Yino asked with interest.

"Silly girl, why are you asking me? Ask Director Fang," Liu Banxia said with a chuckle.

Director Fang smiled and nodded; that was certainly a good idea.
